The bad part of the buckle is also the tuck-in, where the little holder either moves around or is sensitive to stretching and tearing/breaking, from either putting the watch on, or the end of the strap catching on something. I always hated that design for that specific reason.

That's what is good about the SB (which is meant to be worn when doing something more strenuous) - there is no end of the strap to catch on anything.

And, I don't find the SB tuck-in difficult at all, unless you are either sweaty or making it too tight (or both).

I have to disagree on both points. There is nothing horrible or clumsy about the sport band. Yes it does take some getting use to putting on initially but afterwards its second nature. It's great that Apple used a different design from the bog standard buckle found on most watch straps.

1. I've been wearing watches for 30+ years, most with a traditional buckle, one link bracelet. I've never had encountered any premature tearing or stretching of the holder. Yes, straps do break down over time -- years -- and must be replaced but nothing like mentioned above.

2. I think the problem here is people who might like the SB are only viewing it from their own use perspective. But the way the SB is designed if you have to use one of the last few hole then it's very difficult to get the strap inside. I can see it's a breeze if you are using one of the first holes as there is very little excess strap to deal with. And THAT is my point. Where a buckle works for all, the user experience of the SB is only good if you use one of the first holes. The problems start with the last holes. I suspect Apple didn't really consider it, but it's NOT a good user experience for all and that IS what Apple's hallmark is.

Maybe the SB would be OK if Apple made and "extra small" size for 150-160mm wrists, but that isn't reality right now.
