wrong and wrong.

they are giving us VERY skewed facts that work in their best behavior.

their not giving a free bumper, their giving a totally untested case that they can get for the cheapest price possible

you = owned.

They are giving us a choice between the bumper and various other cases. Did you even watch the press conference? I think most of you guys are trolls and I feel bad for people who come here with legitimate problems because people are going to start assuming everyone who is complaining about the same thing are trolling.

the tone does seem very patronizing and condescending but that is probably in part due to the way Jobs is anyways.

i don't have issues with the phone so it doesn't matter to me much, but the tone of this press conference which is really more like a presentation is a joke. i'm not seeing anyone actually press for answers hear, they are pretty much throwing up softballs for them to tee off on. pretty lame on the part of the press at the event

Most of the guys invited are people with experience in the technology world and they realize this issue isnt as big a deal as its been blown up to be. Maybe they actually like the phone and want to see it succeed?

Agree with OP. This was less for the current iPhone 4 owners and more for the future ones and for the stockholders (who can be found posting threads that want to stop us from noting all the problems with the phone - far beyond just the antennae issue).

Glad they're giving free Bumpers. A nice fix for a problem that's they're fault...UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30TH!!!

Yes, a very condescending conference.

Wait a second though, when Stevie is claiming all phones have this issue... then how come he didn't have his little press conference and offer free cases for the original iPhone, 3g, or 3gs.

I am glad that his so called stats claim the "phone center" call in rates are lower with the iPhone 4, but why wasn't this a problem on the other iPhones if it is a problem with all smartphones.

Why can't he just admit that their stainless steel band design didn't turn out as good as they thought?

Great point! I might have to email Steve and ask for a refund on my 3gs case.

Some people don't want a damn case. Some people want to use the phone naked and be able to make phone calls. I mean what is the point of making such a fashionable phone to just hide it in a case.

Some manufacturers make clear acrylic cases. Preserves the look while adding some protection against dropping or scratches.

Keeping my phone, but BUMMED that my car charger doesn't fit, and my work stereo's plug won't fit with the bumper on.

Seems like I'm back on a 1st gen....

Why don't you just take off the bumper when you all those things? is it really that hard? I mean if you have arthritis then I understand....

and that last part of your comment is a huge problem, press is suppose to be unbiased so they present the facts in full and can ask the tough questions and get to the heart of the matter. if they go in with an agenda like "wanting it to succeed" they have failed in their job and responsibility. at that point there is no reason to even have QA, just issue the statement and be done with it. if what you're saying is true then the QA session is a farce, might as well have the apple employees asking the questions.

like i said i've been a strong advocate for apple through this whole iphone business and in my opinion if you don't like the phone you should just return it. my comments are strictly a critique of this press conference today which in my opinion was pathetic

This wasn't an opportunity for the press to embarrass Apple. It was an opportunity for Apple to embarrass the press.

Didn't the press just get a bloody nose?

There *is* an issue. It affects some people. But fewer people are returning this phone than its predecessor. What does that say?

The press have fallen for some internet hysteria - the facts reveal they have over hyped the issue.

One thing I thought was interesting was how Jobs brought up the percentage of people who called AppleCare to complain about the antenna problem. Will those who don't have AppleCare call them when they have issues? Won't they call or visit their local Apple Store instead? I don't think the number (0.55 %) accurately represents the magnitude of the problem, and Jobs probably knows that.

OTOH, I am pretty happy with my iPhone 4. I will be even happier once I get my money back for my bumper. Anyone know how to go about that? :)

you're right it isn't an opportunity to embarrass apple or anyone else, it also isn't suppose to be a dog and pony show under the guise of a legitimate news event. that is it was a suppose to be apple's chance to publicly address the issues and give answers to the tough questions. what everyone got instead was a front row seat to the PR department spinning old information. there was nothing new at this press conference, simply a regurgitation of what apple had said the last few weeks. if that is all they were going to do then they shouldn't have even bothered, and there is nothing wrong with that, it is their choice.

Very well said! And concisely to the point!

Obviously you didn't watch the whole press conference. All phones drop the signal when held. Examples were shown. I performed the same test with my old iphones and they did the same thing.

Sorry dude my 3G and wifes 2G doesn't drop any bars!!! it's an apple cock up in engineering

are you retarded? was signal loss a big problem with the 3g/3gs? no, don't think so

AppleCare = Apple's customer support, which you get a year of access to when you buy the phone

AppleCare Protection Plan = Extended support plan which prolongs that support

You don't have to buy APP to call AppleCare.

exactly does he realy think people are this stupid

Just a few more calls dropped.
Look at it this way, people who life in good reception places have gotten a fix so the phone chooses the best connection and not the strongest signal resulting in a place where people dont drop calls.
People who live in areas with low reception touch the side and looses their call.
what does this amount to?
statistically less dropped calls maybe but with a raise of dropped calls in low rec areas. i sure as hell dont wanna life in a area with low rec with this phone.

Return rates.
ofc they are lower. people love the phone. and this is probably the most known problem in the history of apple. people are sure to wait to see if there comes a fix cause the rest of the product is a marvel. i would be more intrested in seeing the % for people who got replacement phones cause there was a problem. no strike that i dont wanna se that number yikes...

People that reported this problem.
again most well known problem in the history of apple. why would they call apple to ask about it when you just need to open your eyes to see it in a newspaper or somewhere els ^^.

now for the rest.
bars... wwwwhhhhaaaattteeevvveeeerrrr. couldnt care less.

Showing us other phones showing the same problem.
Realy good explanation is made by anandtach here
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3794/t...one-4-review/2
Yes some phones might suffer the same problem but this seem to show its ALOT worse with other phones especialy when holding it naturaly.
should a new phone have worse reception then a few year old phone ^^

i will love getting a free bumper with they apologize for this?
no. and that makes be sad that they did not recognize the problem but wanted to sweep it under the rug.

Signal loss(dropped calls) has not been a problem for most people with the iPhone 4. Why can't people understand that the only reason this is such a big deal is because people can touch a clearly marked spot on the phone and cause it to drop bars (yes some people are having dropped calls, but most aren't). The media jumped on this because of the huge amount of press surrounding the iPhone 4 and it's ease of demonstrating the "defect".
