I don't understand, why do you need drag & drop? Also, I've had iPods for 5 years and I've never lost all my songs like you did.
I always try something before i dismiss or praise it
and i been using both drag&drop and itunes some times now
All my music is already Idtagged and sorted alphabeticly in folder
i use winamp as my mp3player on my pc
When i conect a Dap player that is Drag&drop it instantly dock and i can drag&drop all song very fast.
Sometimes i am in a very hurry but before going out i want to update some songs or albums then speed is vital
with drag&drop all is done very fast , conect, drag&drop songs disconect
Now the itunes with itunes i have to load up the program first
which take between 30-60 seconds on my Vista Pc
(and No i am not happy with vista i might go back to XP for games)
Ok so i Start itunes and take a cup of coffe while im waiting
i have set it to manual synch since i have 2 laptops and sometimes use the second laptop to synch and i cant autosynch with the second without risk it deleting all my song (that i did know so i never got songs deleted that way)
Lets say i want to Synch like 5 Albums all already IDtagged with Tag&rename
which i normaly do to make sure they work propertly on my other Dap players
So after waiting for Itunes to load i drag the songs into itunes and make sure
the order are correct sometimes is not and i have to change something in the Itunes Idtag
I then move the album one by one over to my Ipod touch
Already half the way of doing all this drag&drop would already have performed the task being itunes the one taking a bit longer time to do
But then i check my ipod and find out the order are still incorrect
some songs are numered incorrectly and i have to go back into itunes and re-tag the songs reason is Itunes has so many detailed Idtags so i have to almost everytime re-tag all my Songs in itunes again
To make an example
say i have :
Alanis morisette - Flavor of entanglement
and lets say i have 5 songs of that album (to make it shorter here)
in my computer they apear in order and idtagged to apear on all daps like this:
01 - Citizen of the planet
02 - Underneath
03- straitjacket
04- Versions of violence
05 - Not as we
well on itunes they get transfered to ipod as:
01- Citizen of the planet
03 - straitjacket
05 - Not as we
02 - Underneath
04 - Version of violence
To change this i have to go into itunes again
and i find something in the tag that was not nesesary to change
in other idtag program but that has to be re-tagged in itunes
so it apear in proper order
Ofcourse it would be great if Ipods had a ITUNES like program
that could re-tag my songs on the fly
but i havent found any other DAPS (mp3 players) have that either so far
that way i could re-tag the songs on the ipod without having to re-synch from itunes
AS you can see the process of transfering song is quite time-consuming
for me using itunes
and i would prefer drag&drop all the way
Since many songs exist (what a wonderful word) both on my Ipod as on other mp3 players using Itunes as the only Idtagger is not possible
all songs i tagged with Tag&rename which is a fast tagging software
but not so detailed as Itunes is
maybe a solution would be find a idtagging software that is more detailed
and one that itunes works with better
that might be a solution
Then, is the loosing the songs
3 times in 2 months (and the latest 2 in just 2 weeks)
i have lost all my songs on ipod
Itunes corrupted the ItunesDB file
Nobody warned me about this, APPLE says you have to format everything
when Ipod is not recognized in itunes and all songs is gone
This is far from correct
it might possible make the ipod problem more stable
but the solution is so simple as having a fresh backup of ItunesDB always
ready incase database goes corrupt
Again none of this happen with Drag&drop since you then just using the mp3 player as a hardisk somehow
softwares however is not perfect and things can go wrong
This is the reason i would like to use drag&drop on ipods
the day that happen and when apple improve the sound quality over players like Sony or Cowon then Ipod would be the King for me
However i have to praise the New Nano for being the first to let you store music videos by albums like a MTV-player
