At this point there is really one major feature that I can think of that is not in iOS. This is the ability to exchange files with other applications in a nice smooth way that doesn't create a bunch of duplicate files.

This would be huge. I have practically given up on using most apps where their main function is to modify or access a user file because of the lack of a true file system or some other alternative.

The other thing that I think would make lots of users happy is to freshen up the interface a bit. As the ecosystem matures and we download more and more apps the strict format of the gridded icon layout is becoming less and less elegant.

As a consumer, I personally don't see why I should give a **** what version number Apple wants to assign to it's OS. What difference does it make? Just give it to me!

i dont understand what everyones big hoo ha is with the home screen. do you honestly sit and stare at the home screen of your phone for hours on end? is that what your smart phone is for?
and yes, the people who complain about it being underwhelming, also never have any idea what exactly it is they want that would make them not be underwhelmed. i have asked this question before. why? because exactly how much more innovation do you really expect right now? geez

This seems to get forgotten pretty quickly, but I +1'd it anyway. Apple don't want you to stare at the home screen, Apple want you to launch apps.

Put it this way, I'm happy with an update of any kind, but if iOS 7 isn't revolutionary, Jelly Bean looks pretty good right about now /: I don't WANT to switch, but honestly Apple is falling behind. Jelly Bean looks to improve my biggest problem with Android, the "lagginess". If it fixes that, it just might be the next best mobile os.

And again. Do you sit and stare at your home screen all day? Is that what you use your phone for?

Every time I press my home button I see all those same damn icons. It would be nice to see the weather right on my home screen without pulling nc down or opening the app. But I respect your view on things as well.

Ahhhh the siren call for widgets.

:apple:

Coming from Android, I like total customization. Changing wallpaper and moving icons can be boring at times with iOS. Look, I love iOS. I love Android. If I had to choose between the two I chose iOS due to how smooth the operating system runs and how the app layout is. But with Android's Jelly Bean 4.1 just announced by Google, iOS 6 has MAJOR competition. To be honest, I think Google may have finally out did Apple.

Go back to Android. Problem solved.

Widgets drain your battery.

I think most people just see widgets as huge full screen shortcuts that take up battery life and waste space.

That's pretty premature, considering now phones with widgets have great battery life and all.

Don't even want full widgets and I doubt we will see them. Apple won't even add widgets to notification center.

Stop bitching then. Widgets drain your battery.

I am sick of reading posts by all of these android fanbois. Seriously how much is Google paying you per post.

This is a forum right? The topic is called "This should have just been called iOS 5.2" I can’t put in my two cents? BTW I am no android fan boy. I thought I said I choose iOS over Android. “I” “Me” “Myself” Would like to see a new lay out….. BTW you said something about widgets. That would be nice too ;)

Another arm-chair critique.

Just because iOS 6 doesn't make your breakfast or do your laundry as a consumer doesn't mean there isn't a whole lot going on the OS framework to warrant a version number.

I fing it hilarious when people say "except for X, Y, and Z this is a non-update"

Well guess what, X, Y, and Z IS why it's getting a new version number. In addition to changes under the hood that you won't see as a consumer (APIs).

My thoughts on this is that iOS 6 has few major new features, many nice enhancements that are in iOS 6 (not iOS 5.2) just because Mountain Lion is not yet released and some features are from there. iOS 6 has also few proofs of live icons: lighting of the volume controls on iPhone tilt as the device tilts, when iOS downloads an OTA-update, there are animated gears. This might be just beginning of an animated iOS. Maybe it's iOS 7 or iPhone 5-only, as I believe, that Apple has left few iPhone 5-only features (and maybe later iPad 4-only features, but that's gonna be iOS 5.1/2). Also, on another forum was some discussion about the same thing and there were few smart comments: others (Android, WP) are getting more features, but they are more buggy. On iOS, there are less features and less bugs and new features come slower WITHOUT bugs, as on others they come quickly WITH bugs.

Best typo of the day. :D

They have added them, just not 3rd party ones yet. ;)

You mean the Weather and Stock widget?

I'm not sure if you can even call the Facebook and Twitter icons, widgets.

What I meant was NEW widgets like the Weather and Stock ones featured in iOS 5.

-Calendar
-Messages
-Clock
-Music
-Reminders
-Notes
-Safari
-Mail

No way those things are major developments. The .x is for small things. The maps, better Siri, passbook, etc far surpass a small update. Even if u don't think it is. In coding terms that wouldn't be a .x anything. Foolish spoiled thread.. Go look back at all the other softwares.

LMAO. Who are these people who turn wifi and bluetooth off a hundred times a day?!? Going to Settings page 1 is too slow for you?!?! LMAO.

iOS 6 is a failure! LOL

Get real people.

Subjectivly speaking and thinking...

I for one think like this about the new features:

Siri: As long as I can´t speak swedish to Siri or ask for directions it doesn´t matter how many updates/features they throw at it, it´s totaly useless for me.

Facebook integration: Now we´re talking. Small things like posting pictures from the photo app is something I would use everyday.

Maps: I haven´t tested it, but as long as I can´t use maps here in Sweden like in the US, whats the benifits with it? I get it´s a majoor investment in coding by Apple, but how do I as a user benifit from it here in Sweden? Do i Get turn by turn here? If I alreday have an app for navigation, what is the benifits for me using apples maps instead?

Music app: Never use it. I use google music so that I have access to my WHOLE music library and can choose directly from my phone witch song/songs I prefer to listen to online and offline. Still there´s only a facelift as far as I understand (no new features).

VIP Contact: Seems like a nice little feature. Since I don´t want to be notified by all my recieved e-mails, this seems to be usefull for "filtering".

New answering functions/caller functions: Looks good on paper, but don´t think the "common" man would use this much. Seems more useful for workrelated situations. But hey, that´s just me...

Facetime over 3G: Nice, but should of been there from the start.

Do not disturb feature: Nice, not a big feature, but somewhat usefull for alot of people I think.

Twitter and Facebook in NC: Come on! Why not make a widget for facebook here. Where you can see latest news or something. I for one never update my status...I don´t want to shout out to all my friends every five minutes of what I am doing right now. I am not fourteeen years old for god sake. Come on Apple! Do it right!

Alarm with "selectable" music: You can now choose songs from your music library! Wow! Like you can´t do that with thousands of other apps! This should also have been there from version 1.0.

App store overhaul and tweeks: Good tweeks are made. I can continue shopping without being thrown out after one download, new apps are markes with a nice looking label that they are new etc...

Now...what´s missing?

Widgets: Hmmm...I hate the widgets on Android devices. They make the screen ugly and hard to "understand". It easily gets cluttered. I do like widgets in NC though. Batteryhog? Apple could easily set a limit to maybe 3-4 widgets in NC if they needed to.

Quick Toggles: Yes, this is a useful feature that has to be there (In NC). Why? Because alot of people (including myself) constantly toggle WIFI and bluetooth on and off. Don´t question why we do it, we just do plain and simple. One reason is battery concerns, that´s as far as I go explaining my reasons.

Lockscreen: Keep it unclutterd I say. The worst thing you could do is make it look like lockinfo for JB phones. I got headaches just looking at the screen. It´s way to cluttered. But I do feel like there should be something here, something visual that could be useful.

Why do paople think the update is underwhelming? Beacause users don´t care how much coding there is to it, most people don´t even understand how much coding there is to a simple app. They care about what they see and what they can interact with. I also believe in functions/features that automate things. Like "photostream," for ios 5 was really nice and a timesaver for me.

And again. Do you sit and stare at your home screen all day? Is that what you use your phone for?

Exactly. There are two markets here. Those who want a highly efficient and reliable smartphone connected to a holistic ecosystem, and those who want one that isn't quite as reliable or efficient or connected to a holistic ecosystem, but is puuuuurdy (kitchy) to look at and does nifty animated things and changes every week and lets them fiddle with look and feel so as to make it uglier than stock. To each his own! Glad there are options for different tastes.
