iPhone 17 Pro Dark Blue and I have a G9P but the Op only mentions G9N and G9Q. My screen is uniform (had a 16 pro that was not so I definitely know the difference). Feels a bit "warmer" than I'm used too for the white, but I know how to dial that back with colour filter if I don't adapt. Also doesn't seem to get crazy bright, but that could be because I am indoors in a dark room I dunno (even with auto brightness off) I still think it has a cap on max brightness based on ambient light even if the auto-brightness is off. All in all the G9P seems good for me overall.

I can't stand this screen hierarchy / tier page that keeps getting cited to over and over again. There's absolutely no proof that this is the case other than "trust me bro". I've gone through so many phones and sold them all off over the years. I've had many so-called top tier G9N screens with terrible pink tint along 1/3 the screen, terrible uniformity, terrible off-axis shift. I've also had some near perfect GH3 screens. It is a complete lottery and one person's GH3 can be perfect and the other's trash.
Yea I have a G9P on my 17 pro which is apparently "Samsungs worst screen" but I don't have the green shifting I had on my 16 pro, people also say this is a "cooler" screen for white but if anything I am finding it a warmer white, kinda wish it was cooler but meh seems to have good uniformity so I'll take it, can always use the colour filter to dial back the warmth if I don't adapt. I think it is 100% just guessing these things about x panel being the no quality control one etc haha.

All I’ve learnt over many many years is don’t compare screens. I have 2x LG OLED TVs, MacBook Pro M3 Max, iPad Pro M4 11” and M1 12.9” iPhone 17 Pro Max and 15 Pro Max, several 4k monitors and an iMac retina 5K. None of the screens are the same despite being “calibrated”. Once you accept that screens are different then life is better 🤣

I don’t have time to get into the weeds or debate about it but I bought 2 iPhone 17 pro max’s. One had GVC, one had G9N.

G9N was better, no color changing with angle or tilt issues, colors looked a tad more accurate to my eye (Maybe 5 percent warmer)

Both had very good uniformity.

I would say it’s not worth trying to hunt down the better screen this year but if you’re crazy like me who wants the very slightly better one, aim for the G9N and make sure its uniformity is good.

Agree, G9N is the pinnacle.

G9P was slightly better than G9N on the 16s last year. People said G9N last year were more likely to be yellowish. I wouldn’t read too much into manufacturer tiers.

Basically exactly what I was worried about is happening with me. I have tried a few of the new phones. Two iPhone Airs (the phone that I really wanted). But both had LG screens (I much prefer the warmer/less green and more pink of the Samsung displays). The speakers were also a crackly and distorted mess on both. Could have lived with mono, but not the distortion. Also hate LG screens. So I returned both and decided to get one of the Pro models.

The 17 Pro has a G9N and is the best of all that I have tried. The Pro Max had a GH3, so I exchanged it just once and wound up with a G9P.

I am now torn between the G9N Pro and the G9P Pro Max. The PM is a little cooler, a little less uniform, and slightly less clear and vibrant. The Pro has one of the best iPhone screens I have ever had, up there with one of the 13 Pros I had and one of the 15 Pro Max.

I really want to keep the Pro Max. But I am not doing any more exchanges and the screen being 15% better (to me) on the Pro is holding me back. It is awful that we have to deal with this display lottery on such a premium product. I never have had this issue with Samsung phones. iPhones are always my daily drivers and I am incredibly picky about displays.

G9N is no doubt the best display.

I have G9Q with my Air and no green tint. In what way is the G9N better than the G9Q? I'm happy my Air is a Samsung panel but I'm curious on the differences. And what manufacturer is BOE on that chart?
What region are you in? California? Also what color and memory is your Air?

Here is an Imgur link. The Pro Max is the one with SOS at the top, as my SIM is currently in the Pro. There is a little bit of a rainbow effect in one of the images. But this is because I have a lower quality screen protector on the Pro than the Pro Max.

Images of G9N Pro and G9P Pro Max (w/SOS)

oh yeah I think I can see what you're describing.
The PM still looks pretty good, but Pro definitely more crisp.

Maybe that's just the spec of bigger PM screen? Do you think it could be down to that, or actual panel lottery? Just wondering if you could even get a better PM since looks pretty good and probably is on its own.

I can live with the the display being less crisp (not sure if it is that though since they both have the same PPI and I have compared same-sized text).

It is hard to see in the photos - but the PM has a greener tint when looking at white content and is generally just a little less pleasant with web browsing, Narwhal app, etc. I can't really tell in videos, but definitely in general browsing, iMessage, etc.

I am not sure if it is a Samsung panel lottery situation. But this is my first G9P panel and I do not like it as much as the G9Ns I have had.

Honestly, I compared the G9P on the 17PM to the GVC to on the 16PM that I haven't traded in yet and think I might like the GVC a little more than the G9P.

Could always gamble on another if it’s not too much a nuisance. Maybe it is down to lottery based off way you’re describing

I don’t think I would ever decide pro or pro max on panel alone I’d go the one I want and then give up / keep what you got or try another

My 17 pro looks great but I’m also pretty set on the size. I hate a humongous beefy phone in my pocket 17 pro feels like a reasonable compromise

I still can't get that trick for sysdiagnose to work. Clicking 3 buttons just takes screenshot, not sure how to tell which display I have.

I just checked mine and it has a GVC panel (LG). It’s not perfect, but it could definitely be worse. The bottom part looks slightly brighter than the rest of the screen, though that might just be me being overly picky.

I don't know if it's the screen shot but the bottom part seems to look 'warmer' as well or has a very slight yellow tint.

Do the add “run analytics” to touch - accessibility > touch > assistive touch

Easier

The answer is Dark Mode 🤣
Sad but true. My GVC tinting is way less noticeable with dark mode.

My girlfriend with a 17PM G9N has offered to swap with me and I’m seriously starting to consider it despite the additional headaches doing so.

i don't see the option to add "run diagnostics" under assistive touch

Customize top level menu then + and it’s the second one in list
