Sad but true. My GVC tinting is way less noticeable with dark mode.

My girlfriend with a 17PM G9N has offered to swap with me and I’m seriously starting to consider it despite the additional headaches doing so.
My GVC has the green tint in light mode but it's only at some angle that I don't ever have the phone at naturally.

I don't know if it's the screen shot but the bottom part seems to look 'warmer' as well or has a very slight yellow tint.
And this is the problem, looking at things via a photo, via a completely different screen being used by the viewer. And people make decisions based on comments received.

iPhone 17 Pro Dark Blue and I have a G9P but the Op only mentions G9N and G9Q. My screen is uniform (had a 16 pro that was not so I definitely know the difference). Feels a bit "warmer" than I'm used too for the white, but I know how to dial that back with colour filter if I don't adapt. Also doesn't seem to get crazy bright, but that could be because I am indoors in a dark room I dunno (even with auto brightness off) I still think it has a cap on max brightness based on ambient light even if the auto-brightness is off. All in all the G9P seems good for me overall.
I’m in the same boat: got a 17PM Dark Blue yesterday and it’s G9P. It’s a good uniform display. I’m actually shocked not having to go through multiple exchanges. It happened to me so many times with so many new iPhone launches. I held on to my 13PM for 4 years and it was a great device (my best iPhone hands down). But even with that one I had to try multiple exchanges due to the screen uniformity issues, I still ended up keeping the original as it was the best out of the 3 I had tried back then.

I can live with the the display being less crisp (not sure if it is that though since they both have the same PPI and I have compared same-sized text).

It is hard to see in the photos - but the PM has a greener tint when looking at white content and is generally just a little less pleasant with web browsing, Narwhal app, etc. I can't really tell in videos, but definitely in general browsing, iMessage, etc.

I am not sure if it is a Samsung panel lottery situation. But this is my first G9P panel and I do not like it as much as the G9Ns I have had.

Honestly, I compared the G9P on the 17PM to the GVC to on the 16PM that I haven't traded in yet and think I might like the GVC a little more than the G9P.
Same here. I’m a GVC fan now for sure. I do a lot of web browsing with white / light backgrounds and it’s definitely more eye appeasing for me.

What color? Every 17PM I tested at Apple store in NYC was LG panel GV,GH
Must be a regional thing. When I was living in FL all my pro max screens were Samsung, now in upstate NY I get my first even LG which I’m actually very pleased with. It’s better than my 16PM, 14PM and 13PM which all had Samsung panels.

NYC here as well and I got G9P in my 17PM Dark Blue.

Yea I had a Black Titanium iPhone 16 Pro and I went through 2 of them and honestly both screens had green tinting, the second screen less than the first I stopped after 2. I am surprised this year first one out of the box doesn't shimmer green for me. like it does if i hold it at unusual angles that I would never read it at, but just holding it how I would read it i don't have like a top or bottom section which is slightly more green like I did with my 16 Pro.

I have G9P panel. All up I think it's a good display, no complaints other than slightly warm and seems like it might be a little less bright at max brightness but I never set my device to max brightness so I think that is kinda moot.

I have a G9Q on my base 17, compared to my base 16 (don’t know the panel on that) it’s got better color stability off-axis, but more of a (slight) red shift in the whites. Definitely no green shifts like I saw on most of the models in store. The 16 might have been too warm anyways and I’m just not used to the 17 yet. Over time I don’t tend to notice these subtle differences, only when going back and forth.

Overall I’d probably prefer the 17, it’s got deeper near-blacks and some nice pop. Maybe not a fair comparison though as the 17 is the 120Hz screen compared to just the 60Hz on the 16 so a bit of a different manufacturing process I’d assume.

I have checked all iPhone 17 to 16 and the white of the 16 is way more natural ….for sure the 17 has all the pro features but at least in Apple Store of Zurich, that was the result … even the employee who is a friend confirmed that colors in 17 line up show green shifting while tinting and also not vibrant whites….the 17 pros thst I personally checked were 5 out of 6 good but all the airs and the 17s not so good….all 16 in the store were really crisp…pm I haven’t checked apologies ….

Search for an app called Pixel Control on the App Store… can show different full screen colours and patterns to show colour shifts, brightness uniformity etc

Not affiliated at all, just used it a lot.

The 17 I was using at the store had a definite green tint off axis, but was ok head on. I’m guessing that’s an LG panel compared to my Samsung. The 17 Pro I was trying looked the best, much closer to the 17 I actually purchased. But it’s hard to say if the white point was natural or not given the lighting in there makes it hard to judge.

I wouldn’t say my old 16 has a more correct white point over the 17, they’re just a little different. Both are totally acceptable to me, I tend to prefer warmer whites so the 16 is maybe preferable to me right now, but I also tweak the white point a bit to my liking using Night Shift and keeping a low level of warm on at all times.

Thanks, I see sysdiagnose now, but I'm unable to export it to Files, so not sure how to open it. Here's what I see when I click the Share icon:

I would airdrop it to laptop, extract it (double click .tar.gz), go to 'ioreg' subfolder, open IODevicetree.txt, ctrl+f 'panel' search and its fifth result or search exactly 'raw-panel-serial-number' and then first three of serial # after that.

I executed this, but I don’t know which file to check what is the name of it?
sysdiagnose....tar.gz is the one.

Basically exactly what I was worried about is happening with me. I have tried a few of the new phones. Two iPhone Airs (the phone that I really wanted). But both had LG screens (I much prefer the warmer/less green and more pink of the Samsung displays). The speakers were also a crackly and distorted mess on both. Could have lived with mono, but not the distortion. Also hate LG screens. So I returned both and decided to get one of the Pro models.

The 17 Pro has a G9N and is the best of all that I have tried. The Pro Max had a GH3, so I exchanged it just once and wound up with a G9P.

I am now torn between the G9N Pro and the G9P Pro Max. The PM is a little cooler, a little less uniform, and slightly less clear and vibrant. The Pro has one of the best iPhone screens I have ever had, up there with one of the 13 Pros I had and one of the 15 Pro Max.

I really want to keep the Pro Max. But I am not doing any more exchanges and the screen being 15% better (to me) on the Pro is holding me back. It is awful that we have to deal with this display lottery on such a premium product. I never have had this issue with Samsung phones. iPhones are always my daily drivers and I am incredibly picky about displays.

G9N is no doubt the best display.

Update - it is my lucky day. I tried one last time and got a 17PM with a G9N. It still looks slightly less pleasing to my eye than the regular pro with the G9N. This probably comes down to differences between the 6.3" and 6.9" panels. But it is better than the two other 17PMs I tried with GH3 and G9P. Colors and tint are similar to the G9P but it is a clearer and slightly more vibrant panel.

Only thing that stinks is that it is the blue and I wanted the orange. But I will make that tradeoff any day for the G9N panel. This one is the keeper.

I'm in the midwest and tried two different Apple Stores if this is helpful to anyone.

Thx my latest Air is GVC and my 17 pro is G9N.

Is G9N the good one? I ask since my 17 Pro display looks pristine with G9N.

Color shift is one thing, but do any of you guys notice grainy/dirty effect on white or light backgrounds? Every GVC screen I've had on iPhone 15s and 16s have exhibited the issue. Could also be described as a film grain/paper texture. Most noticeable at brightnesses below 50%. I can't unsee it but hate playing the display lottery.

Yes, yes, and yes. I went through a bunch of different 15 Pro's until I got a Samsung because I couldn't get past the grainy/dirty effect.

Just purchased a 256gb Cloud White Air and lo and behold it's an LG screen with the same issues. Trying to decide if I can live with it or not.

I went through three iPhone 16 Pros last year and finally got a G9P. Now I upgraded and got a GVC, the difference is stark. Hate to go through this all over again.

Yeah definitely! I knew something was up when I watched a video up close on my new Air (White, 512 GB) on day 2 and noticed this screen effect on brighter scenes. Coming from a 14 Pro, I never noticed anything weird like that before. It doesn't really bother me on my Air as I don't notice it from a regular viewing distance but it's still weird. It almost looks like the matte coating on most PC monitors. GVC panel on my Air vs G9P on my 14 Pro
