Just curious. I own the midnight 15” MBA and I don’t think I’d buy the color again unless it was closer to space black.

I owned it for a little while…. And returned it. The fingerprints were too much for me to bare. Perhaps the new anti-fingerprint coating on the new pros works… but i would never buy the midnight color again as it was on the m2 air.

Yep, love it. I have a clear shell on so prints on the external case not an issue, and just give a regular wipe down.
Good idea on the clear shell. Was thinking of doing something similar. Although the inside still gets fingerprints

I had the 13" midnight and then switched to the 15" Starlight after one became available at work. I haven't had to clean the starlight once. The midnight blue seemed more black than blue anyway.

A simple translucent case shell the fingerprints problem easily.

LOL! Sure, they’re making it up, going into hysterics, resorting to hyperbole, being silly, revealing how immature they are…

Recognize that people have different skin conditions, use different types of soap and lotions, and have different tolerances. That doesn't mean the problem isn't real or that they are exaggerating it.

Consider yourself fortunate that you're not having the problem (or are not bothered by it).

It is, in fact, a real problem and a major one. It seems that lots of people have returned their Midnight laptops because of this issue (also concerns over scratching or black scraping off around ports).

Even Apple considers this a big deal. So much so that it even introduced a new color Space Black for its latest MBPs and now touts its special coating-anodizing technique that reduces fingerprints on dark-colored laptops.

Midnight is likely not selling as well as other colors. As one piece of evidence, 15” MBAs in the non-standard 16GB, 1TB configuration are now being sold by third party retailers, such as Best Buy, but only in the Midnight color! That’s pretty strange…

It seems Apple is trying to get rid of them!

love the color, no regrets... so it get smudges sometimes, who cares? just use your computer, wipe it off later if it bothers you.

It’s true it doesn’t seem like a massive deal and one could always put a clear case on it. But I know definitely it gets chips easier because mine already got a chip and I handle my stuff very well.

Nice color and marks very easily, but a wipe down with a microfiber cloth after each session restores it to pristine condition (I use a case but the keyboard deck still needs a wipe). Not much different to the space gray for me. The silver was the only one that did not show the marks, but they were there and still need a wipe to restore to original condition.

Returned midnight for space grey but nothing to do with fingerprints. The blue color would come through in the worst way at home and in the office, as a rusty navy blue, instead of either the really nice blue under natural light or the almost black under certain other lighting conditions.

I think I’d get Silver next time. Space Grey is nice, but I like it either really dark (Midnight) or really light (Silver).

Absolutely!

Unless Apple releases a darker color (not "space black", just "black black") I'd get that instead.
It would be so cool if Apple released the matte black version of the air but I doubt they will because they didn't even release space black for the base pro

Midnight blue is darker than space black, so of these two I'd actually prefer midnight. What I want is a matte version of iPhone 7 jet black. (Not iPhone 7 black, which was gray.)

~58% to ~42% is not close at all!

It's a landslide in favor of buying the Midnight again.

OTOH, wonder what the results would be for another color.

The thing is that Midnight is the only Mac color that has been roundly and repeatedly criticized for producing problems (fingerprints, scratches). Other colors that have been controversial (Rose Gold) have been more matters of aesthetics.

Given Apple's new Space Black and anti-fingerprint coating, it's clear Apple recognizes that Midnight has been a problem!

Wonder if we’ll see this coating come to the M3 MacBook Air

My brain first processed as that as “Two big Turkeys saying they…”

I thought that a bit harsh, but laughed as it was apropos of the holiday!

Wordsworth was right in the misquoted aphorism that “The world is half-created, half-perceived”. His keen insight predated cognitive psychologists and perception-brain researchers by a century and a half.

In any case, thanks for the links!
