I went with the Space Gray Sport because it is a first generation. When a newer one comes out, I'll pass this one to my DD12 and get a new one. My next one may be a SS.
I bought a sport (and love it) solely because it's Gen 1 and the premium didn't seem worth it.
That being said, I have some buyers remorse. When I bought the watch I looked at it solely as an apple device not a watch. From a style standpoint, the watch is just so much more versatile. I used to alternate between sport watches and metal watches, but now that I'm hooked on the features I basically don't have a metal watch to wear.
Next purchase will be SS, so to each his own
originally I bought the Sport version thinking I would be ok with it. I too always had that buyer remorse mostly due to the fact the SS can be dressed up much better and also the color combos with the band are not as limited as the SG sport. I just broke down and bought the SS and sold my sport. The SS and leather loop combo looks great with a suit.
I bought a SG Sport, and I'm still in the return window, but I think I'm keeping it, unless Apple announces Space Black with a sport band today. The steel watch is too polished, to me. I wish they came out with a steel version that had more brushed surfaces.
I rarely wear a suit, and I can probably get away with the SG in those occasional situations. If you're a khaki pants kind of guy, though, then I can see the steel version being more necessary.
I'm in the same boat as you. I have until Friday to return my SG Sport and with the announcement today, I'm thinking of making the trip to the Apple Store and switching them out. Other option is just saving that $200 toward the iPad Pro...decisions, decisions. But that Black SS sure is sharp.

I think even if I had a million dollars in the bank, I would have bought the SG Sport for the following reasons:
1. The SG Sport with black sport band looks absolutely awesome in my opinion.
2. When I see the SS models, all I can think about is how crappy the back of my iPod Classic looks, and that's even after being babied and kept in a case.
3. I will NOT wear a gold watch for any reason. I hate how it looks on me.
For the record, the lack of sapphire crystal on my SG Sport has not been a problem. I don't have any scratches or any other damage on my Apple Watch, and I'm really not even all that careful with it. I've banged it into all kinds of stuff, including the metal corner of my desk right into the screen. I inspected it very closely after that and there was not a scratch on it.
I've had my SS since launch and it's still in great condition. Only a few small nicks but those will easily come out with a couple of swipes of a cape cod polishing cloth. If the SGS scratches there will be no polishing that out.View attachment 583638
Let's face it, the sports look cheap and people can tell the difference easily.
This is so true. We had one of our investors come in last week and I noticed he had a Sport. I remember thinking "Wow he cheaped out" when seeing it. That was just my initial thought, I can imagine others thinking similarly along those lines who have some sort of knowledge of the different AW models.
That does look nice--I like the band too.
