I really like the functionality of the ATV4 remote. Don't like the fact that it's not very tactile in the dark. I always used my custom programmed URC remote before the ATV4 came out, but with the Siri functionality and the fact that the ATV4 remote automatically turns my TV off and on, and controls the volume I use it almost exclusively.

Great functionality. I love that it controls my tv without me having to setup anything. I love that I just hit a button and everything fires up. I love that it's rechargeable. I don't give a rip about Siri. The touch swipe can be frustrating when you're trying to type stuff in but I really began to appreciate it scrolling through hundreds of movies. The ergonomics kind of suck compared to Roku. I always grab it backwards or accidentally activate the TV.

What people sometimes forget though is you can program any remote for your apple tv, including a roku remote.

Some of that functionality is due to HDMI, not the ATV4.

I exclusively use the new Apple TV remote app on my phone because it's easier in the dark.

Touching on my original post. I had some money I needed to spend at Best Buy from rewards that were about to expire I got after buying a TV there.

Coincidentally the ATV remote and that monster energy drink added up to be nearly exactly what I needed (I had to use MORE than the rewards value).

I'm still using my broken remote until I get a case with my next Amazon purchase.

Der. It's Apples implementation of HDMI that makes it convenient. It was the first hdmi device I've ever used that works hassle free out of the box without requiring any setup.

My Bluray player worked the same way. It's nice when standards work. I turn my player on, the stereo and TV pop on, and are ready to play. Standards should be that easy. I could be wrong on that, but I do have the 'enhanced HDMI' setting turned on.

I hate the sensitivity of it. It often ends up lying in the bed when I go to sleep. Then if I roll over wrong during the night, it turns my TV on and wakes me up. I've taken to consciously setting it on a dresser on the other side of the room when I go to sleep!

Absolutely agree. It was even worse before they updated it to require a click before scrubbing. I swear sometimes I just have to look at the damn thing and my TV changes inputs.

I'm using an ATV4 with a Samsung TV paired with a Sonos surround system (Playbar, Sub & two PlayOne's) The functionality of this setup (and other's I'm sure) is outstanding. My Apple TV allows everything to turn on with the press of one button. It even powers the system down automatically after I have been distracted from viewing. The Apple TV even plays nice with the finicky audio input limitations of the Playbar offering surround sound passed through the HDMI of my Samsung TV.

My PlayStation 4 Turns my system on with one button but does not allow me to utilize the surround ability of my Sonos Playbar because it auto detect the system before it has established a connection. There is no option to override this that I have found. also, the PS4 does not power my TV off when I ask it to shut down. I found it easier to just engage the Apple TV and using sleep than to use my Samsung TVs rather obtuse remote control.

My PS4 was in a word 'retarded' when it came to operating in a 'real home audio system'. So much didn't work. My Xbox One S pretty much rocks at it...

I was just talking to my wife about this so I thought I'd chime in. The touchpad part of the new remote is my biggest issue with it. I love the Siri feature, volume control, ability to turn devices on/off, but using a touchpad for TV control just feels awkward and imprecise.

It's also not a great remote to leave around when you have a 2 year old that likes to throw things. He's frequently chucked the old Apple TV remote across the room for no other reason then you asked him to give it too you. With the old remote, no big deal, that thing is solid. I kind of panic every time I see him pick up the new remote because if he breaks it that's a pricy thing to replace.

If Apple could release a second version that's the same controls just replace the trackpad with a D-Pad (maybe not make the top glass :) ) I'd absolutely buy it.

You can buy the previous generation remotes on eBay for under $20 and there seem to be knockoff ones for $5-8. They work fine with the ATV 4.

I do prefer the buttons of the 3rd gen remote, however being able to just tell it what you want to watch is really cool.

I bought this on Amazon.

They had one that looked identical except the lanyard was all black. The reason I didnt get it was because ALL the reviews were sponsored. Whereas none of the Akwox were sponsored and were mostly positive.

It put the lanyard on there and that really helps with orientation when I pick it up. Also it helps me reach it when it just out of reach. The rubber is smooth so it doesn't pick up lint but offers good drop protection.

A solution to problems that should have never existed in my opinion but whatever it does help....
