Have a look at Belkin's cases, it's having a 50% off sale through to September 30!

Here's the link

The grips or whatever you call them are quite shallow I think. The case might slip easily :).
However, the external keyboard is just great. I will keep that in mind. Thanks, mate :D.

I have a best skins ever back protector and a black leather smart cover on mine. I love it

Almost 100 bucks and it looks bland and low key?
yes...
The flashy aluminum and black glossy apple logo is gone. Very simple black leather look. Its still very thin and minmal, a little protection, and nice feel. Its exactly what i expected and wanted.

I picked up a Hammerhead case (front and back protection), which is reasonably-priced. It adds little weight and does a great job of both protecting my iPad 2 and serving as a stand.

Incase book jacket select here. Updated with pebbled leather and better "rails" for better viewing on a desk. Really classy and professional looking IMO. Love it

Got it in black. Would love to see a dark charcoal or tan. If they did that I would get it and change it up based on what I wear to the office lol

Lovely! Thanks a lot, mate. Will check that case out :D.

The smart cover does look nice if nothing else, but my issues (aside from the limited protection it gives) is the leather itself. My black smart cover looked impeccable out of the box, but now there are a few marks on it which don't seem to go away. I've retired it for a Vaja Agenda 2, but it's a shame to think that it got spoilt so quickly.

That is odd, mate. Real leather should not wear off that easily, if you look at premium watches, wallets and handbags from Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Prada and so on. Or maybe, the Smart Cover is not a premium item and Apple is not a fashion company at all :D.

I love mine. I have the grey poly urethane model. When I first got my iPad, I bought a rubber back cover for it (not compatible with smart cover) and also a zip up portfolio style case for a little extra protection. I did not want to use screen protectors, so the extra protection was needed. That whole setup would go in a dedicated padded compartment in my backpack every day. (I have an airport friendly Swiss Army backpack with a pocket designed specifically for the iPad.) All that protection proved to be problematic for me. The folio case made everything very bulky and to use the back camera, you had to remove the iPad from it, which was a pain. The back rubber case started to yellow after just a few weeks. The screen wasn't really protected that well either.

So I switched to a thin plastic back cover that is smart cover compatible and is almost the same color as the back of the iPad, so at first glance you almost can't tell it's there. Before snapping it on, I put a strip of scotch tape where the smart cover meets the iPad to avoid scratching. I put a cheap screen protector on (somehow got it on there perfectly!) and then my smart cover.

With this new setup, the iPad retains its slim physique, but is protected from scratches and minor drops. My backpack still protects it from any big hits. And the smart cover is invaluable for typing or reading at the table. I still don't think it would survive a high drop or anything like that, but it's better than having it naked, and I can set it down on any surface without worrying about any scratches (except for the one it came with that Apple won't do anything about.)

Anyway, I'm a happy camper. The smart cover has way more function than just covering the screen.

I have a smart cover that I use some of the time, usually when I need a stand. When I take my iPad with me I have a simple nylon sleeve case with zipper that protects it until I am actually using it, which is typically with no case.

I used to leave the smart cover on all the time, but then I found it always seemed to get in the way. Now it is used only for a stand when needed.

EDIT: Note, I have used the smart cover since it came out and it has not scratched my iPad. It has rubber contact points, and those are the only thing that touches the device.

What i would REALLY love is an option in iOS to passcode lock only when locked with smart cover.

That would be really great.

hi

i had smart cover, but i wasnt happy with the magnets, it wasnt strong enough that sometimes it detached from my ipad standing, also i was stuck with the angle when i set it to stand. i wish i didnt buy smart cover, now i used the 360 case, its thick but i do have alot of options for use. good luck.

I've got a clear Belkin hard case on the back and a smart cover on the front. I'm a pretty heavy iPad user (pretty much all day every day), so I've been putting it through its paces. I haven't had it long enough to give a reliable recommendation, though, but so far I am loving the combination. I'll try to check back in a few more weeks and give my thoughts.
