Isn't it about time to move the PPC stuff to the "Apple Collectors" forum? ;)
not quite yet, i feel that the PPC computers are still actively used (leopard isnt THAT old ), so maybe keep it for a bit longer in a general section?

One piece of information we'd like to see is a survey of numbers/proportions of PPC threads versus Intel threads in the affected forums. If anyone here wants to help put that together, it would be greatly appreciated. If a concern is that PPC threads are getting buried, the implication is that there aren't all that many of them. But if that's true, are there still enough of them to support a dedicated forum? And won't they continue to dwindle as the last of the PPCs become even older?
i think its more the fact that they are getting buried because other browsers/contributors to these forums arent interested in the issues of the PPC users, and more looking for issues related to their problems - this obviously is because the Intel machines are in greater numbers, but i think that there still would be a large number (~20%) of PPC users looking for advise/help etc.

id be happy to help out if you were to guide me in the right direction :D

We'd love to keep hearing people's thoughts on this topic, though. It's something we obviously discussed when the Intel machines were first coming up, and it doesn't hurt to revisit those decisions as times change.
thats what i love about this forum :D everybody is open and willing to try anything within reason.

The Macbook Air is a notebook, it should be in there with the others, no need to separate it out.
its a different class of notebook though (netbook i guess) - but its a bit silly for a complete "MBA" section yes so i guess i agree with you.

And of course, Apple does annoying things like splitting the MacBook line and then renaming part of it as MacBook Pros, which confuses things even further. Should aluminum MacBook threads go in the MacBook Pro forum? :)

That does increase the complexity of things by quite a bit, My goal wasn't to make anything harder, just give G4 and older systems (In the holy land between current and Classic) their own place. That group shouldn't change since they are end of production, and could eventually be placed in the Classic section. (Hey I wish we had a 68k section in Classic, but that is a totally different discussion).

I think there are enough of those to have their own forum, but, wouldn't be too sad if they got placed in the Intel Notebook section (if they were rolled into 1)

The topics do get buried, and I am wondering if some people don't post, because all they see is MacBook or MacBook Pro talk going on.

I started working on stats for Feb ibook / MacBook forums, but it is going to take a lot of time since it is kinda manual. Can't really search for iBook, because you end up missing threads. This could take a long time though, Starting to learn some Respect for Doctor Q's epic spreadsheet skills.

As a long-time user of this site, I agree it's time for a review of the forum structure.

https://forums.macrumors.com/ has *exploded* since the last time I looked at it, a couple of years ago.

Perhaps it's time for a more fundamental review of the page presentation, with sections that can be collapsed and opened to make it easier to get an overview of the page, or to collapse sections that I'm not interested in looking at.

I don't really have any clever suggestions to rearrange forums, but I support your efforts.

Taking a crude look at thread counts, the only section that really stands out as being a failure is the Guides section. I think they're a wonderful idea, but they still look half-finished, and perhaps it's time to admit that Guides, MR style, aren't working, and are perpetually out of date and incomplete.

I don't disagree with anything you say, but I do want to point out to anyone who hasn't noticed that you can collapse section on the main forum page by clicking the "jellybean" buttons at the top right of the sections.

Egads Sirrah, you are of course right. Where's that deuced 'red embarrassment' icon to match my avatar?

Still, it would be nice have section hiding more finely grained e.g. if I have a MPB I'm likely to not be interested in the iMac or MP or iBook forums. In the context of this particular page, given the way it's laid out and used at present, such fine-grained section hiding probably wouldn't be of much use anyway.

thats a nice feature, but it would be great if you could go into each sub-forum further.. currently that jelly-bean button can only min/max the "main" forum sections (as far as i can see anyway).
