iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 have started rolling out in Australia and New Zealand where it is after 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 21, and in other countries, as the launch date approaches, customers are queueing up with the hopes of purchasing one of Apple's new devices.

At the Orchard Road store in Singapore, where the new smartphones and watches will be available in a few hours, hundreds of people are waiting and have been camped out since much earlier in the day.

It's hot in Singapore, so potential customers have been provided with numbered wristbands to mark their place in line and are allowed to leave for up to one hour for meal breaks.

There's a similar scene at Apple's Berlin store, where customers have been lining up overnight. Berlin customers still have several hours to wait before the new devices are available in the country.

Customers in Austria are also lining up to get an iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max, but with hours to go, the line is still small.

Most U.S. stores don't appear to have significant lines, but people will likely start lining up late at night as the launch date approaches.

Apple's iPhone XS and XS Max were not particularly constrained when pre-orders launched, but some iPhone XS Max models began selling out for launch day shipments within about a half hour of when pre-orders went live. Apple Watch Series 4 models were harder to come by and sold out quickly.

Orders placed for iPhone XS, XS Max, and Apple Watch orders from Apple today will not ship out until October, which is likely why many customers are trying their luck waiting in line for a walk-in purchase.

Customers in the United States who did not pre-order and who are hoping for a launch day device should get to an Apple retail store or carrier store as early as possible.

Are you planning to wait in line for an Apple device this year? Let us know in the comments.

Oh wow, so many on here claimed Apple lost its luster, or the iPhone X’s wouldn’t sell due to high prices...guess they were wrong...just like last year or the year before.....or the year before that...etc etc.

Why is it sad? Serious question tho. People wait in lines for a lot of things. Why is waiting in line for a phone or watch sad?

I agree with you, it's not that sad, if you think about it, maybe it's actually more sad when you are sitting at home all day long waiting for the delivery. While being outside you can enjoy fresh air and communicate with other fans/people. Remember each to their own...

Stop dissing people who queue. I don’t personally, but people do and it’s up to them. Many like the shared experience and the fun of doing it. Why go to a live sports game when you can watch it on TV...
:) shared experience of waiting in a queue for day(s) lol

The “sadness potential” is on how one lives the experience, be it being at home or in line. One can be grumpy, greedy, ecc in both situations, as one can be happy and cheerful in both situations. It’s up to the individual.

I have never waited in line for an Apple product and never will. But hey, some people like the wait-in-line experience. I like the pre-order-and-wait-at-home experience myself. Cozy place to do the unboxing.

WHY do people do this???

The online pre-order gets you the phone on release day anyway....

Not to mention the XS isn't so dramatically different than last year's phone.
The better question is why do you care why people do this.

That’s an excellent point. It’s the best opinion. People like what they like. They shouldn’t be judged unfairly for it.

People choose to spend their time waiting for something it’s on them. Saying it’s sad is so childish.

I think he is just upset, i mean the poster claimed that there was little or no demand for the iPhone Xs, because he “knows for certain.”

I waited in line for the iPhone 6 or 6S when I was in Vegas. I was awake / out anyway at 3 am. So at about 5 am I walked on over to Caesars / Forum Shops. It was actually a lot of fun. Lots of people were waiting and everyone was chill. Apple staff gave out water and snacks. I scored my iPhone at 8 or 9 am and got some sleep right after.

I can't say I'd wait in line again but wanted to try it once. How is waiting in line for a phone any sadder than all of us commenting on a geeky phone forum?

They do it because it’s fun.

It’s like watching professional sports on TV versus going to the stadium. I can sit at home and watch the game, no lines for the fridge or bathroom, more comfortable seat, etc. BUT, there’s an excitement, an energy when you’re with a crowd of people there for the same thing. You’re with a group of people excited about a common interest, and your own excitement is intensified. I bet there are fans that see the same people at these events every year, and they can connect and catch up.

So while I wouldn’t do it, I can understand it.

Maybe people missed the pre-order, didn't have the money at time of the pre-order, or want to pay by check or cash instead of credit card.
Or are doing an early upgrade on their cell carrier and need to do a trade-in
