When I put a certain (now banned) member on my ignore list, the ignore buttons would ironically make me more keen to read those posts

Hehehehe, there's only one person on my ignore list, and I feel no desire to read that person's posts 99.9% of the time. :D

But I suppose... as for arguments as to why everyone in this thread thinks they close threads....

A) There are at least two members of the famed Horsemen of the Apocalypse in this thread. :)

B) And everyone else here posts in lots of threads... it's not so much that lots of your threads get closed as it is that you post in lots of threads that get closed (as well as ones that don't).

C) You're all a bunch of frackin' Cylons. Either that or you're frackin' a bunch of Cylons.

D) There is no (D).

That's a considerate post on a thread borne of insecurity  :D

If he doesn't reply to this I might just get insecure :(

Haha. For some strange reason I read that as someone in this thread. But all's well here :)

well, corvus did, but naturally he was ignored
*ashamed*

I didn't actually notice CorvusCamenarum's post before I read this and had to go back and see if it was in fact the case...

Forgive me CorvusCamenarum. The only excuse I can come up with is that I have a crush on emw and skipped everything once I scrolled down to see that he had posted. ;)

It really isn't a big deal, but it's "she", not "he" :)
Sorry about that. I was staring at the numbers instead of the names (as usual) and I forgot to notice who I was talking about. I even remember that you are a mom with two young kids, right? Oops, there I go with the numbers again. Sorry!

I think this thread will have to be locked before it dies now. The powers-that-be with the real locking power may just be the lucky thread-killers

i expect mr. anderson (resident debbie downer mod) to close this thread anytime. AND post a message about it just to doubly piss people off at not being the last post in the thread.

Typically the verbose posturing of the masses do not have any current appeal to the inherent depths of my soul. Alas, but who wouldn't be up for another flip of the coin whenever the chance arises like the phoenix?

You are right :)

I need to be the thread killer here, I need to up my stats ;)

It's because this place and many message boards are a reflection of society.

There are 3 classes of members here just as we have the poor, the middle-class and the wealthy in the real world.

The three web forum factions consist of
  • the ass-kissers (poor)
  • the middle-class (most of us)
  • the elite (wealthy)

The elite get props (via responses whether in agreement or not) across the board (pun intended) because who they are perceived to be. How special they are perceived to be. And how knowledgeable (from a specific topic out to personal philosophies) they are perceived to be. This also usually relates to a high post count and/or mod status. Further description isn't really necessary, it's too simple (think: popular kids in high-school).

The ass-kissers are just that. They kiss enough tookas that their posts flow over the brim of the board. In many instances they are responded to because, as unflawed as web forum elite are, they still suffer from the most common of human desires. Everyone loves having their ego catered to. This attracts the elite to respond... even in some inane way.

Then you got the middle-class. Most of us. The majority number of members who aren't around enough to be remembered, who haven't achieved "elite" status (spending more time might help) and simply don't have it in our make-up to kiss-ass. Collectively we create the majority of posts and collectively our posts are the majority that go overlooked.

And, both end-spectrum groups think the same thing when reading our posts, "I don't know THAT guy... whatever." The elite doesn't respond because to do so would be to open the door to the club just a crack and the ass-kisser doesn't respond because, well, it's obvious-- we're NO ONE... why kiss our butts?

So the webforum world spins. One day I will make ranks here. I will have an avatar. People will care if I ask the question "Do women fart?" People will respond when I post a review of an HD television set. People will stand and applaud as I crush the rogue troll with humor and wit. One day I, too, will be victorious on MR!!!
