The big feature missing from threads is the ability to search EVERYONEs posts. Something that I love about Twitter. Until they can get this as a feature, I don't plan on using it

And yet you're both here on MacRumors which is basically a social media site mainly for Apple fans/users 🤣
Meh. Internet forums have been around since usenet days. I see them differently than "regular" social media and spend a lot less time on them. Usually only visit a few when something of interest to me is going on etc. Facebook, Twitter etc. are cesspools of garbage and junk I just don't care for.

I won't signup unless they allow adult content like twitter does. They never will, so I'll never sign up.

It's controversial, so they get interaction and ad revenue (+ sponsorship money), but for me personally it's really annoying to see these unrelated posts. Shouldn't macrumors flag posts that are paid for?
So why do you even read threads like these (and post yourself, continuing the thread)?

I ignore threads that don't interest me, it's so much better than getting angry over it. :)

Facebook Groups are very similar to internet forums and like traditional forums, there are "groups" on a wide variety of topics. There are several Apple-related Facebook Groups, for example, some with hundreds of thousands of members. There's even an "Apple II Enthusiasts" group with over 18,000 members.

Totally agree! I read Usenet long ago. Back then it seemed like more technical people were on them. There were some good discussions without the drama. Forums like this have good moderators that keep the conversation hopefully constructive and respectful.

I'm not sure where you folks are getting your hot takes from. Twitter isn't dead, but neither is Threads.

Go look up the usage stats/metrics for threads and get back to me. It was literally a flash in the pan.

It has search for profile name..

But not for posts so can’t put in a topic and read what’s been posted. I went on it for a few minutes and then left, it’s unusable without these basic features.

There was a golden moment to take a lot of Twitter users and it’s been thrown away.

Yep, for now. It's at least changing things though, so i expect it will have that eventually. The whole idea is to follow people, so the search fits that currently..

Unusable for you maybe, not for everyone. Twitter was unusable for me, too much crud to sift through, and I haven't decided about threads yet. It's more in the usable than unusable category for me.

It all depends on what you're looking for. You apparently want topics, and I want people and groups and find value in that.

There was a golden moment to take a lot of Twitter users and it’s been thrown away.
I think they wanted to be more or different than just a twitter lookalike. It's very much based on instagram which has it own type of users. It's got something that twitter doesn't have right now in moderation and I do want that.

They really needed this on launch

While good to have, I don't think it was crucial at launch. Threads is essentially an extension of Instagram and most users access Instagram through a mobile device. Most users access Twitter/X from a mobile device as well.

For years, the desktop version of Instagram had pretty limited functionality.

I betcha the Threads office rent is paid for on time, every time.

Twitter rent?

While not paying it at all it's worse, he is doing that billionaire thing he thinks it is more cost-effective to not pay, get sued, delay delay delay, and then file for bankruptcy.

Sound familiar?

Horrible way to treat the country that gave him citizenship.

He's a weasel.
