The biggest drawback of the current iPads is the absence of any useable ports.

For this reason alone, I think my next pad will be a Windows machine.

There is no technical reason why an iPad could not read a SD card (or even an USB stick) plugged into the Camera Kit. But Apple have deliberately crippled the connector so that only Photos App can see a plugged-in card.

My jailbroken iPad can mount SD Cards, but only during re-start, and only if they are formatted HFS+ !
This has been the status since IOS 9 was released.

Not sure a bezel-less iPad would work. How do you hold it when reading books, magazines, newspapers, etc?

HELLLOOOOOO

The OS will be abled to tell what fingers on the screen are holding the device vs which one is providing input to the UI.

The iPhones are doing this today.

Don't work well, and if I watch a movie in full screen, is very odd my finger stay in middle of action

I guess they only have so much courage as the new iPads, just like the new MBPs, still have a headphone jack.

They simply can't release a new iPad with a headphone jack. That would make a mockery of releasing the iPhone without one.

3D Touch just isn' t intuitive on an iPad compared to 3dtouch on an iPhone . You can' t hold it in the same hand, so you can' t apply counterforce for a firm press.

Well, I have very weak hands (20 years of hand work and artrite), and is perfect fine hold the chubby iPad 4 in one hand and apply a stronger press with other hand

I thought they were for awhile but not anymore. It doesn't make sense. Sure they could put the parts from a MacBook into something that small but the entire point of the silicone in the MacBook is to be good enough while allowing for a super thin, super light, super energy efficient computer. Those benefits are entirely unnecessary for a desktop computer. They cripple the performance for no beneficial reasons.

Fair point. Or Apple uses it as an entry level gateway into their ecosystem.

Of course they'll eventually go bezel-free on the iphone and ipad. I am really looking forward to seeing those devices, they will be amazing and it is about time

Bezels will look so ancient in just a couple of years and in reality they are just a waste of precious potential screen space especially on handheld devices such as phones

Bezel free devices have been introduced before but Apple will manage again to make an existing idea just work - and sell

Other manufacturers will quickly follow

Can you really not comprehend that space is at a premium on a phone, but not on a tablet or notebook??
Apple said they removed the headphone jack for these reasons:
1) room for new double-sized TapticEngine
2) along with virtual home button, allowed for easier waterproofing
3) allowed for greatest battery life of ANY iPhone thus far
1) Didn't ask for it, not needed
2) Other phones have high waterproof ratings WITH a 3.5mm plug
3) make it 1 mm thicker - problem solved

I use the 3.5mm plug on my phone at least 10 times more than the MBP, iMac and iPad - combined.

This removal was 100% to push other Apple products and stroke Ive's ego. Please don't kid yourself that it was for any other reasons.

I guess... In the same way a 5k imac doesn't take advantage of the larger size over a 12" MacBook.
Much like the multi-tasking Apple EVENTUALLY put in the iPad, the larger real estate can be used to interact with multiple application simultaneously.

But I don't see your comparison at all. The developers are limited only by their imagination on MacOS, on iOS it's a whole other story when it comes to limitations due to the iOS environment.

Since the iPad already has palm rejection technology, I assume you're referring to fingers and palm blocking text while holding it? If so, I would expect books, magazines and newspapers to compensate with their own virtual bezel. It's there now in iBooks, essentially duplicating the physical bezel. The net result will be a much more efficient screen space based on how it's held for each application.

My iPhone SE doesn't. I constantly have to deal with errant input from accidental contact with the screen. Does the 6s and 7?

They simply can't release a new iPad with a headphone jack. That would make a mockery of releasing the iPhone without one.

You mean like the new MacBook Pro? Apple was clear that the main reason they removed it was because there was no room to add other things. That's not the case with the iPad or most Macs.

A bezel-free iPad will probably look absolutely awesome!

But from a usability-standpoint, this will be an utter catastrophy...

It MIGHT work with the iPhone-form factor. But not with a tablet. Just common sense, something Apple has unfortunately lost anyways.

Steve would have never... well - never mind!

Since the MacBook is bigger and heavier, it's not "just as portable." And why add the price of the pen to the iPad - does the MacBook come with a pen?

Actually a 12.9 ipad pro with case is a very large beast for a tablet. since my macbook travels with me for work, a case is a must. ill give to the macbook a little heavier, but it is much easier to hold. the pro would have to be propped up for work after a few minutes, so it is the same as a macbook in that sense. the ipad is very bulky to hold for long periods of time. plus if you add a keyboard to the ipad, your just like a macbook, only your limited to neutered apps and more steps added to your work flow. as for the pen, for my work needs it would be needed if i went with the ipad, so it was included in the price.
your right, its not just as portable, its more portable after you add what i would need for work to an ipad.:)

Do we really need 4 different iPad screen sizes? Not to mention, we have 3 screen sizes now, but 5 iPad models to choose from, before considering 3/4 colors, 3 capacities, and 2 connectivity options.

It's starting to seem a lot like Android devices, except with hardware, not software, fragmentation.

And this could be disturbing to someone because... (???)

More choices would be just a plus IMO

Physical space may not be a problem while projecting iPad and MacBooks as it may be designing iPhones I suppose...

it's just not innovative. Unless apple has an ipad version of iOS many of us will sit these new versions out.

we just dont need a big iphone.
I'd love an iPad with the voice cellular built in.

For those thinking I'd have a 9.7, 10.1, 10.5, or 12.9 inch iPad against my head, I haven't had a phone to the my face since I discovered earbuds and in the last 2 years, Bluetooth earbuds. Heck, they were in the box!

The only thing that I's miss would be having it in my pocket, but I carry my Camelback with my wherever I go, so that's not an issue.

The good thing about iPads in many sizes, colors, and capabilities is that Apple does it vertically. With Google making the OS and everyone else implementing it, that's where there may be some issues with compatibility. See Windows for that.

What about non-Pro? I would prefer a cheaper one with no pencil support.

You mean the air? i'd say that's no more....which is a pity that was my more or less "affordable" ipad, Apple wants more and more money each day...

Don't work well, and if I watch a movie in full screen, is very odd my finger stay in middle of action

The 10.9" iPad will probably have an odd aspect ratio so your fingers won't get in the way like how now the black bars are huge.

You can, of course , I can do that too.
But with the vibrations , I just can' t help feeling it is just of bit off.

It was removed to make space for the Taptic Engine - the iPad does not have a vibration at all, nor is it short on space like the iPhone is/was.

they started creating their own galaxy series now. i feel they terribly need to cut down the inventory.

iPad Apps utilize so much of the real estate it has, split views and such. The software will only continue to improve.

But yeah, unless I'm on some sort of public transportation that provides Wi-Fi I usually just browse on a PC or my MacBook Pro.

Its great for games, books, movies/tvshows, when you're traveling though. But in any case I have to test my apps on it.

Advantages: streamlined hardware with software, mobile operating system, developed app store.
Disadvantages: price, lack of pro apps.

A computer OS on a tablet is one of the worst technological ideas by a major tech company in the last decade.

Tell that to the Surface....

Please let it be thinner. Please let it be thinner. That's all that matters. Everything else be damned! It just needs to be thinner.

Jony Ive: "So are you saying...that the iPad...is not thin enough?" *runs off to cut away all the battery and functionality of an iPad and releases a sheet of aluminium*

But the Pro version will be even better -- a sheet of something we at Apple call *paper*! You can write on it, crumple it up, doodle on it, type on it, Xerox something onto it, etc. Amazing versatility. You can even fold it up and put it into your pocket. You can easily show it to friends.

It's also highly secure -- no need for a passcode or encryption. If the FBI or NSA are closing in, simply shred it, chew it up, flush it down the toilet, magic marker all over it, or give it to your neighbor's dog or cat to play with!
