I was thinking about upgrading this March from my iPad Pro 12" since I really need more storage. (32gb is the new 16gb) If this is a minor bump I'll wait but I'm interested in the bezelless 10" iPad. Depending on how much ram it was I might be interested in that.

Very weird that Apple is continuing to include a legacy port on their new products. One would assume they don't actually consider it to truly be legacy.

So is the 9.7" screen size getting phased out? And from here on iPads will be 10" or 12"? (and Minis still at the 7" size I guess)

It’ll be interesting to see how Apple handles inadvertant touches along the edges of the device. With no bezel, there’s not “safe” place to grip the device while holding it. The OS will have to determine what’s a deliberite touch vs indiscriminate touch.
Thats already been built into iOS since the mini/iPad Air in 2012 and 2013.

My very first thought. Is this technology software, or hardware based, or both? My SE does a very bad job of this currently.
iPhones don't have this built in like current iPads since you hold a phone completely different.

That's why iPad mini is where it's at. I'll never buy a larger iPad. I was hoping the mini would go Pro, but it seems not. Instead, they're gonna sell the mini 2, the mini 4, the Air 2, the Pro in 9.7 and 12.9, and a new bezel-free model in 10.9.

Unbelievable.
They wont be selling the Air 2 once these come out. If we use the current logic it'll be iPad mini, iPad Pro 9.7, 10.9 and 12.9. Not that hard to comprehend .

The iPad is already dead.

All I'm seeing here is a complete lack of focus and vision. With iPad sales in continual decline, this is not how you build new business.
With an iPod touch iOS running it, what can you expect?

Apple has taken zero advantage of the larger size. Well, other than bringing multitasking, 2 years after the competition had it.

Hmmm. I would have to look and feel the difference between the 10.9 and 12.9 inch iPad. Currently waiting for refresh to get a 12.9, but a 10.9 old be tempting...

I wonder if this will be Apples trial for new display technology.
The iPad sales are not that high, they would be able to deal with yield and QA problems.

The iPhone 8 has to work, both in yield and quality. The competition is producing amazing screens today.

Let's just hope they don't increase the price even more like they just did with the Mac lineup.
I'm actually more willing to spend money on an iPad than I would be on a Mac.

I remember Apple taking on a patent for a holographic display where shapes and images will actually hover above the screen and can even be manipulated by "touch" gestures, and another time years ago when we were hearing that they were in partnership with a haptic feedback company that already produces panes of glass that can simulate textures and buttons to the touch. I would imagine battery power hasn't kept up with other fields of technology, making adopting these kinds of features impossible currently, but considering my 2-year-old Air 2 is still kicking and doesn't feel dated at all, Apple needs a reason for people to want a new ipad. Thinner, faster processor, Pencil, just isn't going to be enough to keep people upgrading their iPad yearly or even every other year, especially if it's still just running iOS and doesn't do anything more than the iPhone can.

Bring it! I picked up a 12.9" iPad Pro and haven't been able to put it down. Or should I say, I found little reason to pick up my Macbook Pro.

It's no laptop replacement, and iOS needs to fine-tuning, but it's pretty darn close to replacing at least my Retina Macbook if not the 15" Pro.

So palm/finger rejection is hardware-based?

I can see why it's not necessarily built into the iPhone, but a bezel-less iPhone is going to need it for sure.

I like the idea of a bezel free iPad and may consider buying one just for the hell of it (or not) but to be honest its really not necessary for someone like me between having a laptop and an iPhone 7+, you don't really want or need another device that gets in the way, you have to back it up, keep it synced for productivity.

I think I literally just talked myself out of an iPad. May wait to see what 2018 holds.

Let's just go back in time to the days of a 12.9" Pro, 9.7" Air, and 7.9" Mini. No more fragmenting the product line between 6 models of iPad with differing features and performance.

You may be right, but I still feel they are working towards a new mini around the size of the apple tv.

I thought they were for awhile but not anymore. It doesn't make sense. Sure they could put the parts from a MacBook into something that small but the entire point of the silicone in the MacBook is to be good enough while allowing for a super thin, super light, super energy efficient computer. Those benefits are entirely unnecessary for a desktop computer. They cripple the performance for no beneficial reasons.

Some would disagree with that.
And they would be wrong for so many reasons. What they should be asking for are more features and more capable software being developed for iOS. MacOS at its core is not designed for touch. It would suck without a trackpad/mouse.

I'm fairly certain these analysts are literally just repeating the rumours they've read on this site. There is absolutely new information in either of these posts.

No chance the home button goes on these if released in March though. It would be very strange for Apple to release something with such huge developer facing changes literally weeks before WWDC
Not to mention that a bezeless iPad with no home button would more than likely be the pre-cursor design for the forthcoming iPhone 8 (if rumors are true.) Agree that that timing would be odd.

I dont want a iPad Pro.., i want a new iPad air.

Stop slacking Apple and get to work

Some would disagree with that.

Its called the "ipad pro" but professional applications are often massively complicated and/or obscure. Who is it that will be porting all of these to ios? Will apple make ios able to run macos apps? If not, microsoft is going to be years, maybe a decade ahead with their pro tablet by the time all the applications we need are ported to ios or replaced.
