With a 6-month life cycle, buying anything from Apple at full price is foolish. The only way you know you won't be screwed is to wait for it to show up at refurbished store.

Is this usually the hype before a product releases? I feel like a lot of people aren't getting mini's myself included because its not even comparable to its competitors.

I have an iPad 3 and I am buying a mini to see if I like it; and if I don't, I have options:
- return it back to apple (full refund)
- pass it down to another family member

If I like the mini and 163PPI and slower processor don't affect my enjoyment... then
- sell the iPad 3 (craigslist)
- pass down the iPad 3 if can't get a fair value for it (still lots of people in my family who wanted one, or 2...)
- keep both

If new one comes out in 6 months or even in 3 months?
- sell it (craigslist)
- pass it down if the resale price sucks

We are not talking about a fortune and technology depreciates... that's the cost of being in this game. Suck it up or leave.

:)

I totally agree.

I tried the iPad 3 for a week and compared it with my 2. Didn't like it so returned it for a full refund. No other tech kit I can think of where can use it for a week or two then return if just because you don't like it. No questions asked.

I will pre-order the mini tomorrow morning and see if I like it.

Why wait we you can try Apples latest kit. I expect my 2 and the new mini to cover all bases for me.

I'm sure all the cheaper plastic higher spec competition is very capable but who cares. I certainly don't!,

Let's wait for the next thing around the corner and never buy anything...

Exactly. The article suggests you might want to get a Kindle or a Nexus 7 now and then get the 2nd-gen iPad Mini next year. Bogus.

Here's an idea...get the iPad Mini now and then the 2nd-gen iPad Mini next year.

exactly.

if resale price sucks, don't sell it to lowballers so they can use it FREE for a year and then get their money back (that's usually what happens), give it to someone whom you care about :)

Deprecition becomes less and less as the device gets older until it stop functioning or when it hits the bottom floor - yes there is a bottom floor for Apple devices (always demand, even iPhone 3, 3GS, iPad 1 etc).
