I switched to Three after years on O2 (since the Ericsson mobile phone with the solid antenna and fetching brown front face and original Snake built in) since despite O2's continued promises they never installed anything better than GPRS where I live. Eventually I decided not to be a mug any more and checked coverage with other carriers and Three had a decent SIM only plan and also had 3G coverage at my house and 4G where I work so it was a no brainer.

O2 tried to "tempt" me to stay with them when I phoned them for the transfer code so I could keep my number. I told them unless they had a 3G mast on a truck to where I live as we spoke then there wasn't a thing they could say that would keep me with them.

Other than a couple of shady things that Three have done (like not being able to cancel data bolt on things via the web but being able to easily sign up for them, you have to phone to cancel and good luck getting through during times you have free to phone up) I haven't had any problems - I get decent 3G/4G wherever I happen to go now and I pay less than what I was paying O2.

Contract prices for iPhones in the UK are ridiculous now. I'm with o2 but their rates are just as high as three's. I'm glad I bought my 6S plus outright from Apple. I will probably do the same when the 7 comes out.

What plan are you on?

I'm on Three's 12GB £20/month one, but prices are creeping up and data allowances creeping down. A year or two ago it was £15 for AYCE data.
I'm paying £20 a month on Three for AYCE data, AYCE texts and 200mins.....

I really don't understand what people don't like about Three.

I went with Three from O2 when the 5 came out and after checking the coverage at home (Essex) and where I work (City of London) on the coverage checker I went with it, what a mistake that was.

The signal I got at home was bad, even worse inside. At work the masts were so congested that having AYCE data was just a waste of time, inside & out. Signal penetration was awful too. Signal got better at home with a home signal box but that took an age to get.

And with regards to the masts near where I work I was told different dates every month FOR A YEAR when they would be upgraded to cope with the congestion but nothing ever happened, I was lied to every month.

I paid to leave early and glad I did and that's what people don't like about Three. Not saying they're bad everywhere and I know every network is the same and cant be good everywhere but from my point of view they were awful in my most frequented areas and that was a deal breaker.

Giffgaff get lowest priority on the O2 masts apparently.

I cant say as I've had a problem, i use my tariff for calls and texting mainly, i don't really use 3G or 4G because most of the time there is Wifi about, and we have fiber internet at home so i just use that.

Pretty sure everyone has similar stories for the other networks...

I was on orange before it became EE, i couldnt even receive incoming calls 50% of the time. Tried multiple handsets , the issue was never resolved after months.
I went with 3 and been great for at least 6 years now

I just recently renewed my contract with three. £20 for unlimited everything (12gb tethering).

I threatened to leave them for BT mobile and they gave me that deal.

All networks have extortionately high contract prices if you are getting a phone. I also try to buy phones outright then go sim only.

Fair enough - this is a story that applies to all Carriers though. They all have weak spots where it doesn't work or customer's they've pissed off for whatever reason so this isn't unique Three.

I still don't understand why everyone dumps on Three. Even with the recent sunsetting of 'The One Plan', the remaining tariffs still offer good value for money and include 'free' roaming with your tariff allowance in many popular countries.

I have AYCE data with tethering, unlimited mins, texts and 'free' roaming in most countries worth visiting all for £15/month (for now). Bargain.
