Sorry, but I have to jump in here to defend Ford.

You have to keep in mind all of the infrastructure and manufacturing equipment that go into an assembly line, especially for carmakers. It's a ton of capital and usually years of lead-time to get all of the automation built and put in place. With all of that to consider, you build the line for the overall capacity that you plan to need for the run of that particular model. With that consideration, you get your average run rate for the vehicles. It's really not possible to turn the dial up and make the line run twice or three times as fast so that you can meet a surge in demand. You have to plod along at your planned-for rate and make the best of it.

Then, throw the supply chain issues into the mix and you really get into deeper trouble.

This all applies to Apple's assembly lines as well. You try to build ahead of time to meet the initial demand and then let things settle down to meet the planned-for average demand.

It's also often small things like, say .... screws - manufactured by some factory in covid-hit china or whatever. Things you don't think about.

Small low cost items aren't made in the western world. They're low cost and not profitable to make here, but essential for assembly of finished products.

The stores in Atlanta didn't have base M2 256GB or 512GB models 8GB RAM but they did have 16 GB RAM and 1TB HD. Even in midnight.

Charleston also had 16/1 midnight up to a week after release. I will never preorder again. they are literally selling imaginary products. then we wait and hope that china doesnt lock down a factory before ours actually gets made. yeah I know they don't charge the card yada yada yada..

Ordered MBA SG 10/24/512 on Aug 2 (after cancelling same configuration in Midnight). Scheduled as 18-25 Aug. Just checked and it is now getting ready to ship AND Apple Card was also charged this morning (Aug 6). Expect it early (hopefully). The order ship time is a lot better than it was on the MBP 16" SG 24/32/1 TB which I also have and will keep. Just want the MBA for traveling purposes. Just FYI data.

Update (8/8/22): Apple Email this morning that my new MBA has shipped via UPS - Expected Del date 8/16/22. BUT UPS says estimated Del date is 8/11/22. Either way this is quick either 9 or 14 Days for the BTO Edition.

Update (8/10/22) UPS Emails all day today - DELAYED estimated del date now 8/12/22 before 4:45 PM. BUT tracked to Inchon, Korea today 9/11 at 5:30 am KST. Assume it will now go to Anchorage then to Louisville KY could still make the UPS 8/12/22 adjusted Del date,

I've ordered a space grey base model M2 air and have to wait until August 23rd for it. Had I ordered a week ago I could have collected it the next day. It's almost as if Apple didn't realise people were going to want to buy them! I guess there must be a genuine reason but, even so, I didn't think I'd have to wait this long. Luckily I'm in no real hurry for one. I'm in the UK, by the way.
I ordered a CTO 24GB/1TB on the 29th and just got a shipment notice. I should have it by the 10th. I was initially quoted the 16th-23rd so it seems like a Apple is just underpromising.

my theory (nothing more or less) is that the BTO airs are shipping faster than the base units, as, perhaps, the base units are selling at an exceptional pace. either way, am getting tired of standing at the door waiting for fedex (tired, hungry, and in need of a shower...)

After placing a BTO on 7/26, I just looked in the Apple Store app and saw that my M2 is being prepared for shipment. The original estimate for delivery ws 8/11-8/18. It looks like it might arrive a day (maybe 2) early.

Just saw that my M2 will be delivered a day earlier (Wednesday) than expected. For those still waiting, I hope you get yours early as well.
Mine got to my city yesterday (FedEx), but as of this morning, still not listed as out for delivery.

Mine is coming via UPS and supposed to be delivered by 7 but, it still doesn’t show out for delivery
Just got text from Apple saying mine is going to come today. Then double-checked FedEx tracking and now saying out for delivery. Hopefully yours will change to that soon as well.

Same with me. It's in Kentucky (on its way to Chicago), so I'm guessing it will arrive tomorrow. It seemed to be delayed a day leaving China.
