Is there any way to query the display manufacturer without a jailbreak? I wonder if the display quality is consistent across the three sources.

Really? The difference is less than a millimeter, if I'm not mistaken. How can your eye even tell the difference? I think it's all in your head.

No, it's actually quite obvious and many reviewers have noted it. It makes a big difference.

How about iPhone 4S

I'm wondering how many people are buying the (now cheaper) iPhone 4S? I bought one for my daughter. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a significant increase in iPhone 4S sales in late Sep cf early Sep (although the margin will be a lot lower than iPhone 5)

In the month of September, my company added 75 iPhone 5 devices to our system (user devices connected to Exchange). We added 48 iPhone 4S's.

Sounds like 4S sales may be pretty strong. Of course a lot of those could have been pre-existing devices that just connected for the first time or even new employees/contractors so it's not exactly a reliable number to use.

People reviewing the phone seem at odds with your conclusion. Even DisplayMate who are display experts have said its by far the best phone display they have ever seen. It also has the potential to make manufacture simpler and cheaper when all the mass production problems are ironed out.

This is a good point the 4s is still a very capable phone and is now at a very good price too. I bet the 4 is also selling well now its free with a contract. In previous years the old iPhone models have also outsold everything else during upgrade quarter.

I could tell the difference as well.

It also seems like the tech has moved on a fair bit in the last 2 years, as the latency seems to be significantly reduced, and everything seems a lot quicker in response to touch input. Wether thats a side effect of the new in-cell tech, I'm not qualified to say.

I agree the display quality is much better all around (both visually and touch-related), but I personally do not see that it looks to be more "at my fingertips."

Agreed. One look at it will convince you!

....I didn't expect the new iPhone to make me already want to upgrade my iPad, but I think it will be a must for me now LOL!

Let's hope this In-Cell Display technology makes it into the next gen iPad. :)

Tight supplies? Everytime I watch the news they tell me the iPhone 5 was a disappointment why would supplies be tight?

Apparently they are. I am worried that when my next phone is eligible for upgrade (first week in October )there might be a 3 week wait.

no one experienced yet, how its good and effordable in-cell technology.
before we had digitiser and screen right?
if u smash ur screen (most of the time) it's enough to change digitiser, and much cheaper and until u replace it, you can use it even with smashed digitiser.
now if you smash it, game over. you have to change entire screen.
hope new screen is much "life proof"
please forgive me if was wrong;)

Read the article, they did ... and from LG and Sharp. All together they couldn't keep up with demand.

apple doesn't want to spend those 1 billion for parts from samsung. But, they doing "campaign" anti samsung for those money. It is puzzling, in few weeks I noticed cheaper iPads become more available than ever, and they are noticeable cheaper then apple stores. iPad 3 £50 cheaper (new and more than 10 available)

Are you denying the fact that Apple buys parts from Samsung?

I only read what was posted here, and they did not mention Samsung, just Sharp, LG and Japan Display.

I stand corrected. Looks like they weren't willing to give in-cell secrets away to Samsung and are sourcing displays from elsewhere. Apple have invested heavily in Sharp to allow them to produce Apple displays and it looks like it has taken longer than anticipated to get the new production lines up to speed. Strategic move I would say but I think the shortages won't last long as Sharp is now producing expected volumes.
