I don't use this app but I like in the first screenshot how they moved the overlaid icons to a floating panel so they don't obstruct the video content. Why didn't they do the same for the other screens where the 'comments' and 'profile' windows are on the side? The floating panel could have been in between those windows so the buttons are not on top of the content.

This is relevant. No matter what you or I think about the app, it’s a big deal and I think a big vote of confidence for the product.
I meant to say relevant productivity apps.
But you are correct, and if this TikTok app helps promote AVP adoption, I'm all for it. Not that I'm going to use it, but I see the benefit of this app being released for the AVP.

Not sure if I should applaud, but at least they getting an app out unlike like YouTube, Spotify, and netflix
Damn ! I was even saying this 😆

How do you swipe between videos? Do you have to fling the screen upwards, like normal scrolling? They should have made a button or a simple gesture, so you don't have to do all that work to switch videos.

It has nothing to do with “confidence in the product”

TikTok just wants to be everywhere and bleeding everyone’s brain and energy dry, wherever they happen to be.

This is like saying it’s a vote of confidence if a major casino app came to the AVP

Who was it who just said in another forum "The thing that Meta gets with the Quest is that you won't get a great software ecosystem if the install base isn't large and with a chance for lots of growth. i.e. The lone product entry can't be nearly $4000 because nobody (effectively) will buy it and thus developers won't target it."

Oh right. You.

Well Tik Tok targeted the AVP and TikTok has surpassed X (Twitter), Telegram, Reddit, Pinterest, and Snapchat in monthly active users. But Ok TikTok is different from other developers because they want to be everywhere? Because other developers dont want to be everywhere? I am trying to figure out how to stretch your one claim to cover your other claim.

Besides Tik Tok seeing the value in this now small installed base, I think it might also signal, 'hey, this wasn't that hard to code.' i.e. they did it because it wasnt hard to do. And that might convey a message to other developers.

Now the CPC can be in your room with you 😅
This did happen pretty quickly. Considering the Educational applications use in China... uh'humm... However the education of children via *ik*ok is one choice I thankfully avoid via never downloading the app.

Also thankful to see less "sharing" of materials through the platform, I've seen a drop in sources and instead seeing them posted directly to Lemmy or Mastodon, yesnother "scrolling" app, though, with a little higher content level.

One of the worst things I’ve ever done for my mental health was installing TikTok. One of the best things I ever did for my mental health was uninstalling TikTok. Just say no.
Congrats! One of the best things I did for my health, moved to Lemmy from whatever that other group was, *eddit. Now I bump into a few items on Lemmy I'm interested in, or things get cross shared, and the memes are at a generalized level. The former platform after 13 years had become a "hunt for anything new" and it was addictive.
