It doesn't specify that the US version will use Bytedance's algorithm. It might have it's own.
Is the algorithm really all that TikTok’s IP amounts to? I’m sure it uses some pretty sophisticated neural-network weights, but I think what truly drove its success was being a new platform with fresh content, a simple algorithm, and a lot of luck. An alternate algorithm could just as easily be built from user data through a neural network.

Well, The Chinese can take comfort that whomever "buys" it will most likely ruin it and they can rinse and repeat. And also as we become more and more tyrannical, we can all huddle together and bask in the golden warmth of a totalitarian new world order we can rule with an iron fist TOGETHER. So glad we are all coming together like this. Beautiful actually.

If it were as simple as that, it would have been cloned a long time ago.

TikTok is AI that watches and understands millions of video uploads per day. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be able to make such accurate recommendations.

It's not that great. It forces a ton of leftist political propaganda into my feed. I mark not interested in all of them and only watch hockey, cars and food videos.

🤨 Almost. Religion actually helped shape America — it’s literally on our currency (“In God We Trust”) — so I’d leave that one off the list.
It was only added to money in 1957. And "under god" was added to the pledge of allegiance in 1954. Both were challenged in courts who ruled that the text is patriotic, not religious.

Most social media is a sewer — why is X more of one? It’s always going to be an echo chamber for someone. If that chamber gets too big, it becomes a sewer to the smaller chamber.

X is specifically a sewer because of who owns it and how he runs it.

It’s different than any other social media platform from that standpoint.

I got onto Tik tok and was shocked how much pro CCP, anti american, and pro maga content was pushed upon me.

Made me realize that it’s likely done on purpose by CCP. Also made me realize how much other social media like Reddit is a democratic echo chamber.

There is nothing good about this news.

Um - you just explained why religion IS on the list. Religion shaped your country, and the country it shaped is deeply flawed. BECAUSE you put your trust in “God”. Stop believing, and start thinking.

I feel bad for America's youth. Suppose I should be glad that it'll be American billionaires melting their brains as opposed to Chinese billionaires (assuming they're allowed to exist over there).

Not a personal dig, but this is an example that many (most?) people in the west have no clue what happens in China. Which may be a big reason why we reject it so much. Chinese communism is very different from Russian communism. They usually describe it as “capitalist communism”. There are a lot of billionaires, although still not as many as in US. But, the “middle class” - people who own homes and (increasingly electric) cars, and go out to dinner in the evening, is more than the entire population of the US - latest estimate is 500 million people. This picture people have of Chinese people being poor factory workers and rice field farmers, is deeply flawed. And if we don’t wake up from that illusion, we will be run over.

One example: Last time I was in China, the air quality of Beijing was a whole lot better than Los Angeles and London…

Tim Cook doesn't favour expensive acquisitions. Beats was one of the biggest and anything AI related he was strong armed into by market conditions.

Surprised this post didn't have replies disabled. It's a huge anti-Trump, anti-jew, leftist echo chamber in here (irony for reply #32 and #39)

TikTok is not going to be "state media" (its literally not going to be owned by the US Government, funny enough it's controlled by the CCP right now and somehow that's better to people? come on now)

Anyone who thinks there's going to be "censorship" on the app more than there already has been since its creation really doesn't know what they are talking about, these buyers aren't going to sabotage their own huge investment.

By the way, I find it hilarious that because the US is afraid of China using TikTok to spy on the American people, they want China to sell it to Larry Ellison, who earned a nice chunk of the money to do so by creating the software that China uses to spy on people. I guess boycotting China is a one way street.

According to CNBC, no ByteDance representatives were at the signing of the order, and there is no indication the Chinese government has changed its stance on approving a deal. China previously said that it would not approve the sale of TikTok, but Trump claims that Chinese President Xi Jinping verbally approved the deal during "a good talk."
“Peace in 24 hours” energy strong in this one. When will they learn that it is better not to announce anything at all when you are dealing with potential swindlers, especially considering how close China and Russia are nowadays (literally same political block).

Verbally they can say whatever they want, but then it turns out all the time that “muh legislation, we don’t do it like that in our country”.

The deal suggests that ByteDance will lease a copy of its algorithm to the U.S. TikTok shareholders, with the algorithm to be "retrained and monitored" by Oracle.
Ah, so basically a nothingburger for $14bn? Nice. Tomorrow ByteDance announces they scrap TikTok and now it is a brand-new app “TikTak” or “TokTik” or whatever, then what? Oracle and others will bring them to court, but what’s the liability if China doesn’t care about US court decisions? Sanctions? They will have lots of time to prepare for them.

ByteDance and the U.S. investors have 120 days to close the deal, so it will need to be completed by the end of January 2026.
I guess if they were actually interested they would have closed it on the same day or at least were present at the signing of the order. Right now seems more like a populist PR talk Trump admin is trying to present as “big success” (more like “big nothing”). Maybe I am wrong though and Chinese will actually “sell a TikTok subscription” to a King of America

Sorry, I’m not fluent in American paranoia: Which posts exactly are “anti-jew”?

So what paranoia are you fluent in?, because that's exactly what this ^ reply is, paranoia.
