I never understand why Americans worry that China has their data. What is the Chinese government going to do with your data? Nothing.

But the US government with your data? Man, they'll do a lot. Force US companies to send your data to them. They can persecute you. Discriminate against you.

I'd rather the Chinese get my data. No joke.
They may be idiots, but I believe our government has a better understanding of the risks to us than you.

I don't use TikTok and never have, but If that's the case, then they need to present the data, in its entirety, for us citizens to see, evaluate and decide. Decisions like this should never be made behind closed doors.

Honestly, after observing my 12 year old niece over the last month while she stayed with us, and having talked to family who are teachers, TikTok is an absolute cancer on the brain. We’ve had to intervene and put our nieces phone under parental control and limit her to two hours per day as she was spending 6-8 hours every day on it. It’s absolutely affected her attention and focus.
The bigger issue is the fact that 12-year-olds are given smart phones (with unfettered access). No 12 year old needs a smartphone nor to be on social media....

I really hope some day in the future we are able to look back at this time and realize how INSANE it was to allow kids online and onto Social Media in the ways we are doing now.
The sad part is, it is a way for parents who don't want to deal with their kids to "parent" I mean go to a restaruant and look at how many small children get a screen shoved in front of their faces to keep them quiet and then parents wonder why they have the attention spans of squirrels when they get older..

It's profoundly saddening to me. I know exactly what you mean.

Several questions that may get answered by that time:
  • Will it get a different app icon to determine that it is the U.S. version of TikTok?
  • Are TikTok users outside of U.S.A. able or allowed to switch to the TikTok U.S. app or strictly for those located within U.S.A.?
  • Will there be any features or privacy or other functions differences compared to the TikTok app available to the rest of the world?
  • Will the total number of TikTok users get affected negatively, meaning decrease the user count?
We know what this is for. TikTok US version will be heavaley monitored and censored. You won’t be able to talk about Israel or any other topic the US government wants to control. It’s funny because the US is always a cussing foreign governments of this and that, and it seems it’s just reflecting. Where’s the state censorship now?

Snowden files already revealed why the US government does this kind of stuff. They do it when they can’t infiltrate company, hack into their servers or just simply because they are not able to compete with them. Which one do you think applies here?

No one below 21 years old should be given a smartphone nor have a social media account, unless they are already part of the workforce and paid for the smartphone themselves.

I'd probably go with 18 ... and raise with driving age to that as well.

I was personally impacted by two horrific (one life altering and one life ending) car accidents in high school.

The decision to release a separate app for the United States follows the passage of a law by Congress mandating that Chinese parent company ByteDance either sell its U.S. TikTok business or face a nationwide ban. The U.S. version of the app will then will be managed under the oversight of a U.S.-based ownership group, including Oracle.
If not dictatorship why dictatorship shaped?

Oh no. I don't want China knowing I watch cat videos and buy tons of Built Protein Puff bars.

This is correct.

The US government has repeated stated that they don't like young people finding out the truth about the genocide they are facilitating, and indeed, the 75 years of injustice on Palestine.

However, a US-only version will fail. Why? because the next generation are far smarter than today's "boomer" generation. They are also less prone to falling for the propaganda.

If you disagree with this, ask yourself how the wealthiest country in the world has no universal healthcare and education - and yet gives taxpayer money to the tune of billions every year to Israel. Propaganda.

That is excessive (especially for the fact that once they turn 18, they are legally an adult).

The US Only version is going to be terrible, especially with what I expect to be corrupt owners. I like using Tiktok (I am GenZ after all) but I'll probably just quit the app at that point. I know they are going to mess up the algorithm for sure.
