If you disagree with this, ask yourself how the wealthiest country in the world has no universal healthcare and education - and yet gives taxpayer money to the tune of billions every year to Israel.
That's not a sound (logical) argument.

$$$ that are aid to Israel can (often do) get cycled back into the US economy via arms purchases.

I agree that it is absurd that the US does not have socialized healthcare, but that state of things would exist even if Israel did not get even a dime from the US.

No one below 21 years old should be given a smartphone nor have a social media account,
Make 21 the minimum age to join the armed forces too then. Fair is fair. If you're too young for a smartphone, you're too young to kill people.

So Israel is buying weapons from us with the money we gave them? Why not cut out the middleman and give Israel weapons directly?🤔🤔 Can't have the left hand know what the right hand is doing, amirite?🤫

However, a US-only version will fail. Why? because the next generation are far smarter than today's "boomer" generation. They are also less prone to falling for the propaganda.
😂🤣😂🤣😂

Tell another joke. This past election proves that to be completely false.

The bigger issue is the fact that 12-year-olds are given smart phones (with unfettered access). No 12 year old needs a smartphone nor to be on social media....
Very true, but unfortunately the peer pressure reality that your typical pre-teen/teen has to live in when they go to school is hard. I think that’s one of the main reasons some parents choose home schooling for their child.

Will the content be isolated? Meaning you can't watch TikTok original content on US Tiktok and vice versa?

Presumably so.

Content from Douyin (which is the OG tiktok that they use in china, before the international tiktok came out) cannot be accessed by the international tiktok, and vice versa.

I guess, after multiple delays, they may have come to some sort of agreement. Otherwise ByteDance would've never agreed to seeing tiktok managed by US entities.

Things is I follow some interesting accounts on all my social media (politics, history, literature), sport and cats. All are fun and I filter the worthless stuff. Then again I am gen X so hopefully had some discernement and wisdom with my years (don't laugh). I know some gen z who are smarter than their peers and many dumb gen x and boomers so...

As for data scraping we know they ALL do it, all. I am most worried about those governments who claim to be democratic but proving the opposite with their actions. We expect how China, Russia etc. will act.

As US-only TikTok will crash and burn.

Wait a minute - does this mean users for the UK get a version of TikTok with no Americans on it??!

I never understand why Americans worry that China has their data. What is the Chinese government going to do with your data? Nothing.

But the US government with your data? Man, they'll do a lot. Force US companies to send your data to them. They can persecute you. Discriminate against you.

I'd rather the Chinese get my data. No joke.
Comments like this make my head explode. They are a rival nation and dictatorship bent on expanding their empire by weakening their adversaries. If you can’t see the chess pieces in play, I am sure you have at least seen the huge news story that was Cambridge Analytica. That is exactly what they plan on doing with your data. Only now it is 2025 with advanced machine learning and AI. Some of ya’ll really don’t see how big this is. This is the ability to control elections, control consumer buying power, put people on the streets toppling governments. This is everything we have seen recently in California and what we saw January 6th, x100. If you have the slightest clue on how the Chinese government treats its own citizens and what rights it gives them, surely you can see how horrific it is to give that regime power and psychological control over their adversary’s democratic populace, who they will obviously treat 10x worse. They have no empathy for regular people, for humanity.

Drink less propaganda. Better for you.

I’m not part of TikTok team, but based on what seems like common sense to me:
- n/a
- Likely not. Infrastructure in US is expensive so likely only support US users.
- No
- No, as the app will function together with the global app and the only difference is host location of user data (videos, comments and user info of US users will be in US)
you make really good points/answers. But, one thing is that the data separation might be a bit strange in that things like followers/comments would need to appear on non US users accounts/profile if truly global, right? Meaning, if a U.S. user leaves a comment on a non-U.S users video, does that constitute their data residing on non-U.S. data buckets? Unless they are realtime pull data from each region to build the forward facing data in the app. Interesting.

Indeed, China has internal issues but are the least agressive historically and currently of the "big 5" members of the security council (US, Russia, UK, France and China).
Funny. You make a good point. But, China is one of worst countries for IP theft. The government supports IP theft. Heck, most of the military progress was stealing for us. Being part of the security council is a pretend thing.
