Tim Burton does produce some visually awesome films. I haven't seen his remake of Willy Wonka yet but I wouldn't go into it expecting it to be just like the original film anyway.
I went into his IMDB profile and although I haven't seen ALL of his films, I've seen and loved most of them.

Alice in Wonderland is one of my favourite stories ever and I think more than ever I'll be critical of this one so I do hope he doesn't disappoint. He may be the perfect person to do such a story because it is trippy and dark in places and he can do that brilliantly.

Don't step on the mome raths, Tim.

Looks great, but the release is practically a year from now

Scheduled to hit theaters on March 5th, 2010

Yes, I just remembered. There was nothing about Wonka's parents any of the books. My bad. :)

Here's the thing- I thought the first Willy Wonka film was quite dark. I thought Burton's was bright, sunny and over-the-top ridiculous. Johnny Depp did a Michael Jackson imitation in the meantime.

That's not how I saw the movie at all, but I think that might be a question of perception, so it can't really be "decided" in any way.

Hmmm, I like Johnny Depp, but I don't like the look of the Mad Hatter . . . too much like Carrot Top or a clown.

I've been excited for this for months! I hope it lives up to my expectations. There's also supposedly the movie based on American McGee's Alice, which I've lost all hope of ever seeing come to fruition, and Marilyn Manson's twisted psuedo-biography of Lewis Carrol that probably turn out garbage even though he started off with the right idea of exploring Dodgson's many demons.

Has anyone seen Jan Svankmajer's Alice? Now that's a great interpretation.

I love that one. I hope I still have my copy around somewhere, it may have been lost last time I moved, though.
