The original iPhone was also a pretty overpriced product for early-adopters, but it sold 1 million units in 74 days.

I think there's a few more truths that Tim really should admit to. :p
iPhone was also…$500ish dollars. People had to stretch but if they could find a way to justify it, sure. $3500 is a very different situation for people to find money for. Unless they’re buying it on credit and payments, its just not happening for most people. Which is why 500,000 units is a very impressive number if true

why does it matter if Tim Cook admits it or not? The consumer decides really if a product is suitable for mass market and VR is just not there for the majority of people, it is a niche market at the moment. This can change by making a new market for VR, just as they did with iPhones and iPads. I totally see a day when our desks have no computers or screens on them. Just a headset for AR work with as many floating apps running as I want.

Oh please. This is such a bs line. They thought the hype for their brand was bigger than it was and people would go gaga for a heavy computer monitor. People want VR. They want it to be lightweight and they want to play games. Apple could have done this but they chose to go for style over substance. One of these days they'll figure out folks can't afford their overpriced monitors and VR systems and will make some changes. They could have made this thing for $800, have it be super lightweight and blow Meta out of the water with some really cool controllers, but no. They had to overproduce the heck out of this thing.
Apple is not targeting gamers nor does spatial computing has to progress slowly to a crawl accommodating primarily gamers when the tech to do so on par with non-VR gaming platforms is very far away of being cheap.

The Vision Pro and its OS is a step forward for meaningful computing spatially beyond games.

It’s huge for standalone headsets AND glasses it can be used without controllers and has capabilities to finally enable premium content to be consumed and created supplementary with existing prosumer hardware.

Gamers are misrepresented as a audience in online comms and mass media with such people having way more time on their hands than others
