Spec bumps can be no small feat of engineering...

Sure it is. Open back, add A5 chip and 8mp camera, close back. Connect to itunes, load iOS5. Put in box, wrap box and send to apple store.
If that is all Apple is releasing after 15 months I will be disappointed.

Probably suffered development delays due to shattered glass backs and poor signal reception on prototype units. :D

I have a 3gs. It's great. But when I go to the store and see 3 droids with beautiful 4 inch screens, and then I look at even an iPhone 4. Just that alone makes me want the droid.

Haha thats funny, that reminds me of old kids play.

I'll trade you my BIG money (nickels) for your little money (dimes).

Someone explain why "I could care less" is wrong...

Please enlighten me.

Imagine a caring scale of 1-10, 10 being the most a person can care.

I could care less. This would be anywhere on the scale from 2-10, as it's possible to care less than that.

I couldn't care less. This would be a 1. You simply do not care and could not possibly care less.

So by saying "I could care less", you are essentially saying "I care".

You only have to look at the iPad 2 to know that Apple is not dead set on a "Year 1: New Design, Year 2: Spec bump" plan.

The iPad 2 had no real solid competitors at it's release, Apple knew this, sales of all android tablets in comparison to the original iPad were insignificant - yet it was still happy to pump enough into R&D to get us a great new design and adequate spec bump.

The iPhone 4 is in a totally different situation, it's competitors are selling very well, there are many phones with a better spec and good design. Apple would need balls of steel to provide a simple spec bump, after 16months since the original IP4 and what seems like exponential Android growth and sales. And frankly, i'm not too sure whether even Apples brand loyalty and status could keep a tech bumped IP4 at the top of the pile when it comes to Smartphones.

It is a technically correct statement. However it's use in a sentence that is intended to imply how much you don't care about something is grammatically questionable, and even disregarding English altogether, just plain illogical.

LMAO! That's probably the best and funniest description explaining that! :D Gave you a +1

Well, according to this piece of information there will be no iPhone 5: https://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/29/apples-n94-iphone-4s-appears-in-inventory-database/

I think we will all be disappointed, hard to believe move by Apple, so many people are unwilling to buy a 4S. I have a 3GS, but that was different because apple was still ahead in the market, with a 4S apple will fall behind, as an apple fan, this is disappointing as Android phones are currently more appealing. However the demand for a redesigned iPhone 5 is high.

It is also hard to believe that apple will be holding an iPhone keynote, apparently a small one at it's campus though, just to introduce a spec bump. My last hope that possibly apple hasn't started assembling the iPhone 5 and will announce but release it later on.

Where do you get your information from? Who are these unwilling people? When all is said and done, 4S or 5 will sell like hotcakes, just like every previous iteration of the iPhone.

And to add to another point discussed by another poster above: When confronted with an older, but less expensive model (iPhone 4 at $99 let's say) and a brand new iPhone (4S at $199 in the above example) I'm sorry, but most people very much desire the latest and greatest and will gravitate toward the newest model unless cash is extremely tight. If this weren't true, there wouldn't be so many people on this board who sell their previous gen iPhone at the drop of a hat just to be able to get the most money to be able to afford the newest release out of their allowable update cycle.

I would be very, VERY surprised if whatever phone is released (4S or 5...I lean toward 4S) just doesn't hit it out of the park again, like every new release has for the last 4 years.

Apple keeps tabs on all of these rumor sites, evidenced by the frequent referencing of "the rumors" in their keynotes. They know what information tends to be leaked and what they can do to keep things under wraps. It would not be that hard for them to wait to put a new mondel into their system until after the keynote.

That said, it's looking more and more like a redesign isn't going to happen.
