"Now that we've established that we're serious about protecting our intellectual property... we should talk."
Who says that Google instigated the conversation. By all accounts they've always been open to negotiation, its apple that decided to issue a thermonuclear war on android, not the other way around.
We just won 1B, thats a Capital B.
Just saying, you know in case you want to pay up now
Feeling the heat now, Larry? But I thought Android and your lackey Schmidt had nothing to do with stealing IP from Apple, right?
Android is DEAD. And so is Google.

And did you expect the freeriding, infringing side to start such a "war"? Come on...
Thanks for the laugh. Truly ridiculous. Even if Android were to die - that wouldn't mean the end to Google by a longshot. Good luck with that dream and hatred though!
Losing Maps traffic in the upcoming iOS 6 and a billion dollar settlement against the prize hound didn't hurt eh?
so what if samsung makes a phone using android, but google and apple have an agreement?
the tom tom maps are garbage. Most iphone users will end up downloading Google's map app anyways. Samsung's billion dollar penalty has no significance on Google whatsoever.
Neither of these things are going away in the foreseeable future. Especially not Google as a whole.Android is DEAD. And so is Google.

Sigh, so much for going thermonuclear on Google![]()
Who cares, Windows Mobile 8 is seemingly more attractive. Google makes a great search engine though.
Who cares? Seriously? Are you "new" to this forum. Have you read the responses?
Like I said in my first post in this thread - this is a good thing. For all parties and the consumer. I don't believe the talks were begun out of fear from either company. And quite frankly - it's not at all surprising that the CEOs of two major companies are sitting down to talk. Further - I'd be willing to bet that Tim and Larry don't consider THEMSELVES bitter enemies. They are both savvy businessmen.
It's not some grudge match where either one is going to make the other one "bend over" so to speak.
I concur. It would also be received by the public and those who see Apple is a bit heavy handed, as a sensible way to resolve their differences.
There's very few circumstances under which that would be a good idea. A large section of the tech community is very upset with Apple right now, and going against Google would only make it worse.
Anyway, the Samsung lawsuit accomplished its goal: It set an example. I don't think anyone else wants to go through that in the near future, so settling differences will be on everyone's mind.
