Unfortunately, and it pains me to say it, Apple Maps is still miles behind Google Maps.

At least outside major cities. For example, in London is fine (generally very good). I like the UI.

But in Cardiff (a small, but capital city) and certainly in smaller towns and villages, it's awful.

Fine for general day-to-day navigation.

But riddled with inaccuracies, out of date information, and missing information. I've lost track of the amount of times I've looked up a business, travelled there, only to discover it doesn't exist, is closed that day, or has shut down completely. It's become extremely irritating, and I'm probably going to eventually go back to Google Maps.

I suppose, part of the problem, is probably that it's just not popular enough, so isn't getting enough user/business data input.

He was setup by Mr Crook for certain. And Scott has more soul than Mr Crook, as he cares more about the users than Crook for sure;
Please don't use faux-comic insult names for people. Or type "Micro$oft". It doesn't help your argument. It's the sort of thing that a certain world leader does; and it just reflects poorly on the speaker.

So apparently old Timmy considers all of his other hundreds and hundreds of blunders, screw-ups, mistakes, misreads and unforced errors to be just small ones. It's kind of like watching the death of a thousand cuts.
Proof that it's not who you know, it's who you b**w.

Ha have you noticed the huge number of children using the term microslop? They think they're being original and edgy by doing what everyone else does.

I would take skeuomorphism over this liquid ass we have now.
Well said. The problem was trying to replace google maps before the apple maps data was ready. I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 6 here right next to my iphone 13 mini. iOS 6 is so superior to current software that I use it whenever I can.

Matte version of iOS 1-6 design would be perfect in my eyes, and the design was already moving in that direction in iOS 6.

Oh don’t I know… in 2014 I was on my way to a Wedding, but Apple Maps decided to take me down a random track onto a golf course field!!! 😭😂

No that's not what happened. He wrote a joint open letter apologize and he signed it and want Forstall to sign it but Forstall refused. Tim had no choice but to fire him and I liked Forstall but that was was unacceptable.
Whoa, I forgot about this

I’m surprised he didn’t mention the iPhone 6. I think I had three that bent over time simply from being in my front pocket.

Each time they would bend, battery capacity would drop significantly. Worst iPhone I’ve ever had.

Scott seemed to champion the skeuomorphism trajectory which didn't last (thankfully). So I'm kind of ok wrt Tim's mea culpa.

But what does that do for the consumer? That only helps Tim and stockholders. Apple used to be about innovation.

Look around you at the apple products that exist.

Count how many were released under Tim's watch.

Just in the room with me right now:

  • homepods
  • AirPods
  • apple watch
  • Apple Silicon Mac Pro / apple silicon transition
  • iPad Pro
Jobs has
  • the mac
  • the intel transition
  • ipod
  • ipad
  • iphone

Jobs had the iPod HiFi 😛
The only real product listed under cook was the watch in your list. Everything else was inevitable. Dont forget Steve did do the Intel transition. But we don’t give the kudos to the pioneers that did the Power transition in the 90s who are the OGs

The Vision Pro isn’t exactly something to be proud of just yet.

its all about how much money was made. KPIs rule supreme

Forstall was one of the better software people at Apple. The blame should have been Tim’s. That project was impossibly big to achieve and Tim should have given him much longer to produce work for the public to test. When Forstall was in charge of iOS it was less buggy and the UX was more polished and clean. The keyboard, the magnifier, app animations and home screen editing all worked far more reliably than we see today.
As did AirPlay. It’s been a disaster since the day he walked out of the building.
