This is a bit soothing to hear for me after the Apple Watch gen 1 being a disappointment. It is a disappointment because it didn't expand the box already created bu other fitness bands. As Tim says, money is on health and fitness, not on "sending your heartbeat" or reading mail thru your wrist, Gen 1 as is is definitely not a game changer.

I was so excited when Health App and its detailed data fields (o2, glucose, blood pressure, hydration etc..) coupled with Tim's statement that they were waiting for the right product to not come out with just another product. This shows that Tim gets it at least.

Less Android Wear, more sensors Tim.

Ps. Jawbone up3 delaying indefinitely for 4 months now + Apple watch lacking almost all sensors leads me to believe the tech just doesn't exist yet?

The tech exists for most of those sensors. It just doesn't exist at a X price point, a high level of reliability and compactness.

Not sure how something that cannot exist be a disappointment? People are complaining about the current watch, how would they feel about an unreliable $1000 watch full of unreliable sensors?

Who is Jim Cramer? Is he popular in the US? Seemed like a scripted PR stunt.

Though good to see Tim trying more and more, hoping all this leads to future keynotes I don't almost fall sleep in

Same magic? With the core products, apple will be strong for years, though I feel innovation is not the main focus , purchase of Beats very unlike apple, and creation of luxury high end shows that the company has lost its focus and drive somewhat.

Survived it has and will for a long time, the magic is not the Same.

A company that large cannot have a too narrow focus because then it will die.
Profits are hard to sustain at this level. Even Microsoft kind of stayed too much in the same area (Office+Windows) and got creamed for it in mobile.

BTW, going into fashion is in no way outside Apple's focus since design has always been a part of Apple's DNA.

Good post.

The 1st gen was never going to have everything in it, Apple needs to add sensors and features every year so you upgrade. Look at the new MacBook camera, 480p....2015!!!!.. Gimped on purpose , iPhone has 720p. Apple are smart and know how to sell products.

History says otherwise, Apple lost its way before by having too many products , Jobs narrowed the focus. Time will tell how things work out.

Big difference between fashion and luxury . Do you think jobs would have given the go ahead for a product that less than 1% or whatever could afford? Not sure.

Microsoft for me seems to have narrowed its focus with the new CEO, they were all over the place with fingers in too many pies, that was not working for them.

Right.. You mean like the 1980s Macs... The Apple ASP in the 1980s was way more into the 1% then it is now. Way way more.

Tim constantly tries to step out of Steve's shadow, even going so far as to bleat about it on TV. Tim goes out to make all these appearances to sell Tim.

They're paranoid because they know Apple Watch will be a complete and utter failure. No one is gonna buy one of these massive geek accessories except Apple's upper management.

They, and a few million others. Everybody will buy an Apple Watch except the homeless, who will ask you to donate an Apple Watch to them. :roll eyes:

Apple's Pathetic Download Server

Why didn't Mr. Cook discuss the pathetic state of Apple's download servers. I've tried for two nights to download iOS 8.2 to be greeted by download time estimates of 5 to 162 hours.

And you want to be my watch salesman!

The most interesting takeaway for me was how Tim thinks healthcare will be the biggest opportunity and Apple Watch (presumably) will eventually detect cancer. That would be amazing.

People in these comments will doubt this but there's good reasons to believe this will be possible within the next 30 years. Cancer is usually detected with a blood test and there are teams at Apple already looking at what can be determined by looking at your blood via a spectrometer. (look to Apple's acquisitions for info on this) Eventually these things will be extremely clever and miniaturised to where they can fit on the inside of our watches. They'll be able to detect dehydration, blood pressure, insulin count for diabetics and yes even things like cancer. This stuff will be possible.

Should MRs create a post of what the watch can actually do when it ships or what it will be doing when we are all living like in The Jetsons?

JC disingenuous on AAPL

Tim's pulling out all the stops to create buzz around the Apple watch.
It seems a tad desperate to call in to a show with declining viewership, somewhere in the low 100'000.

Cramer is a "character" and while I found him entertaining back in 2005, I've never felt the need to trade on his advice. In fact, back in 2005 he called AAPL stock "worthless" and a declining stock. (while in the $30s pre-split)

I've stopped watching his show sometime in late 2008, when he was blatantly wrong on the real estate bubble and then tried to defend it that "nobody knew".
Thank god a real comedian (Jon Stewart) called him out on it on his late show.

Cramer is primarily an entertainer with a photographic memory for all US stocks, but that doesn't make him an expert on stock direction. His picks are as good as anybody's.

But Tim should've checked into his many bad calls on Apple before congratulating him on his 10 year Mad Money legacy:

About 2 years ago he called Apple's next product "a clear loser" and stated that "Tim Cook’s job security could be in doubt". He's dumping on the next iPhone/iPad/iWatch saying that Android is winning and iOS is loosing.
Check the full story here:
http://venturebeat.com/2013/04/02/jim-cramer-apples-next-product-is-a-clear-loser/

Tim's a "nice guy", but he should've stuck it to Cramer like Stewart did and ask him about those negative calls on him & Apple.

I also found it quite interesting and believe it's possible if they really want to to it. That's the first time when I think Cook is right and he found the next big thing for Apple - turning iPhones and iWatches into a personal health and medical assistant which could not only monitor your current state and help you stay in shape but also predict and prevent health issues based on your daily data, ResearchKit tests and various iWatch sensors.

That's the future.

I agree.
While I'm skeptical of the current Apple watch and it's hailed success, I do believe that there's a future in personal health monitors and the ResearchKit that Tim introduced this week.

A future Apple medical tricorder in form of a Smartphone or Watch is quite feasible:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_tricorder

It can definitely be the next killer app. Question is, will Apple or someone else be the first to crack the magic formula.

And the naysayers just can't stand it as evidenced by their trolling here.

Because people don't like the Apple watch you call them trolls. That is rather insulting. I have many Apple products. More than six computers, a couple of iPads and two iPhones, not to mentioniPods and tons of Apple accessories.. But I think the iWatch is a joke for many of the reasons people here have stated. But you call all these people trolls. Shame on you. People could say you are blindly approving anything that comes out of Apple. If you can't intellectually argue your point, then it is better to keep silent than insult others and call them trolls.

What I think is interesting is that Apple has done what many said was impossible: it has survived after Jobs with the same magic. It has not faded to become 'just another company'.

Looks like, as with the iPad, iPhone and iPod, Tim Cook as CEO was the right move, even though Steve Jobs was widely criticised for it.

It feels like something is missing from Apple, though it remains and will continue to be a great company, it is not the same magic which Steve Jobs brought. For example the hype that precedes each event does not match the experience after having watched the event, you can hear it in how the crowd at the event claps. Events with Tim Cook lack the exuberance heard during the events, crowd and presenters alike, compared to Steve Jobs.

----------

Are you posting Apple press releases?

Using sick people for company PR is something Steve Jobs abysmally hated.

How exactly are they using sick people for company PR? Is Apple not providing a tool and a framework for researchers to connect them with an audience which should drastically increase the sample size for various areas of research?

Microsoft for me seems to have narrowed its focus with the new CEO, they were all over the place with fingers in too many pies, that was not working for them.

It wasn't exactly too many products it was too many versions of virtually the same product and those product lines competing directly with each other and so were the internal teams which created a lot of turbulence inside Apple. I think Apple has begun doing this again unfortunately.

But he must if he is to assure investors that Apple is Apple and Steve Jobs only added to what made Apple what it is today, if he can do this then he can do the same of himself as someone who can add to Apple and so on and so forth for the next CEO.

exactly. apple watch v3 will be like the iPhone 4. "well, i wasn't really SET on getting an iPhone, but i probably will soon, given all the new [xyz] in it, and considering the other options.. sigh. the future has spoken." then you get one and wonder why you hadn't for so long.

*disclaimer: i am someone who is almost entirely uninterested in the apple watch.

I couldn't watch more than 60 seconds.

It's like watching DVD extras where people talk about how everyone is the 'greatest'. Oh Americans and your superlatives.

----------

He’s changed his AAPL recommendation--strongly--like four or five times in just the last 5 years. None of which correlated to any actual performance of the stock, and certainly not of the company’s earnings.

Why would this recommendation be any different?

Since you clearly follow him so closely having seen him change his recommendation so frequently in the last four or five years, you can surely point to one of these instances in the transcripts or summaries of the show.

..

Waiting...

..

In reality, he has never wavered from AAPL. His charitable trust has owned it non-stop. While at times when given the choice of AAPL and another stock, he might have preferred the other stock, that doesn't mean he didn't support owning AAPL. I really don't understand the hatred towards the guy here. He's entertaining and knows his stuff.

Correct. You put it together better than me.

Oh you Brits and your cynicism. (See how that works?)

I don't watch Cramer because he's a clown. If I felt like I needed investing advice from an entertainer, I think I'd stay far away from the markets as possible.

I give Apple credit for motivating the Swiss to make healthwatches.

Apple Watch would be a new Casio, but they need to hyper massively improve battery life.

It still does not excuse not focusing on real computers.
