What a waste of resources, (Oil), the chips have to be shipped all the way to Asia, more pollution.🤔

It doesn't stop there, but I can't say what, it's political.

These things don’t take much space and are light

Invent teleportation and at that time the world will stop using oil. Unreal

Indeed, those computer chips are so very, very heavy! What were they thinking?

Like buying oil from other countries and shipping it to the US. Oil is a lot more heavy than chips are and therefore takes more energy to move. It all needs to be made in the US, the chips, the phones, the oil.

72% of an Elon Twitter. Much better use of money. Elon is a moronic teenager and Tim is the responsible dad. Hard to believe they're only 11 years apart.
Can we please just go one day without talking about twitter? I hoped it went out of business before Elon bought it and I still hope it does. It is the gutter of the internet and a drag on society.

Excuse my ignorance but how many chips can they make out of a "wafer?"
Depends on the size of the chips. Small nm chips @ 14nm and below are made on 12” wafers. Currently with 14nm chips you can get ~500 on each wafer. So definitely more than that for Apple’s chips. 🧇

I am glad to see the chips built in America. Arizona for TSMC and Intel, and Ohio for Intel. I hope many future Americans and others from around the world benefit from these announcements... in terms of recieving the rigorous technical schooling and training at the local high school and/or university, and then a job in semicondicutor manufacturing and/or design. Semiconductors are cool! So is operating system design!

Taiwan and China have massive industries built around high tech manufacturing... and I'm glad to see the USA and soon Europe get in on the action too.
USA is still second largest exporter of goods & services after China.
USA still has edge, just politicians need to get their act together and do what is good for USA.

and along with it all the toxic pollution that will cause major health issues for the Arizona workers and people in the communities.
who's gonna make the chips then ?
we want computers, we want jobs but we don't want to do manufacturing ?
Intel had Fab in AZ for decades, they have fab in Portland OR, people seems to be happy, no complaints.

I was about to say the same thing.

The entire South West is running out of water from what I hear, so we'll see how this plays out in the next couple of years.
let's invest in water infrastructure then.
Government's job is to create infrastructure.
we want jobs, we want computers, but we want China to make these for us ?

Water intensive manufacturing process in a state with no water
It doesn't need large amounts of continuous water. They recirculate it from storage tanks/pools. TSMC estimates that they will reclaim 67% of their needed water onsite with the remainder being recycled from renewable sources Phoenix has dedicated just for TSMC. The plant is more efficient and provided more jobs per gallon of water than local golf courses.
