Not sure how Apple is going to have more enterprise presence when their mobile devices don't even have a proper file system. Pretty pathetic, really.

LOL Seriously?? Well tell that to BlackBerry who was very successful for many years in the enterprise sector and dominated it with a standard phone. I hope you don't believe the enterprise sector really needs a file system with mobile devices? Get your thinking away from the Surface Pro. That device certainly hasn't done much to penetrate the market.

What is it with people and their file system obsessions?

Maybe don't force systems onto the newer versions of software until the IT department is ready and make it easy to go back to old versions when their are problems and it will be a start in Apple not being completely DOA in the enterprise.

That's a nice way of thinking. How about partner with Crapdroid and release iMessage there? I really want to ditch WhatsApp but most of my friends are stuck on Android.
Then they should really get off Android.

Same as keyboard-obsessions: 90's thinking.
I was a massive supporter for file systems and storage but with iCloud Drive and the potential it holds storage on devices is almost pointless and limiting.

same for music, I bought the 128GB for music but have just been using Apple Music to now. Asking Siri to play an album and enjoying.

Good question. Our company uses Box, and I'd like to know if there is something good coming down the road....perhaps a buy of Box

Do you find that the OS X Box Sync client sucks? My experience is that it's slow to sync and runs at about 75% CPU (on an i7 iMac). I've seen posts about the same thing and wonder if it's universal.

I could actually see Apple going down this path. We have software as a service, why not hardware as a service?

I like being able to own my stuff... but having said that, I wonder how much this service would cost me?

If I could get the newest top end iMac every year, that would be worth $300/year or so to me.

But I seriously doubt it would ever cost that little. So I'm going to stick with just spending $2K on a computer ever 8 years.

Maybe you should visit the Silicon Valley someday before your demise. Most everyone dresses with sneakers and jeans. This goes for Ebay, Google and other tech companies there. Being so dapper and proper is boring. What's more important is the product, not how GQ the CEO looks.

I know and I agree that the product is the most important. I have been to Silicon Valley (although by now it is 7 years ago). I fail to see how regular sneakers and a shirt that is not tucked in can be more boring than a well selected set of shoes, a well fitting pair of jeans and a dress shirt tucked in. I think Cook is very well dressed here, and not boring at all.

Again, no jab at how well of a CEO he is or how good less-well dressed CEOs are. It was just an observation. And it doesn't have to be GQ level (which I think is not that impressive to start with).

Well I think Apple is following Steve Jobs' mentality that any file system has a "learning curve" and thats it clunky. Now with the new iCloud Drive app that you can have on iOS 9 it makes it easier to store your files and all that. But that means you need to use iCloud and obviously not everyone wants to. But for those that do, the iCloud Drive app is a step in the right direction imo

There you go! But what does average joe on this forum thinks? "whoa? a 16gb iPhone? apple is cheap!"

The guy with the sneakers looks like a wretched idiot.

Good thing you said "looks" and not "is." He would be the idiot that started Box Inc. and has a net worth of an estimated $100 million....Sitting on stage with Tim Cook, CEO of one of the most prized companies on the planet.

Huh?

Apple can't declare victory yet, at least not where I work. The IT people there are still solidly Windows (stuck in the past with Windows XP) and the majority of them still hold the opinion that Apple makes overpriced crap that's incompatible with anything but their own products. (Their only concession is that Macs "are good for graphics".) Basically, most of the IT decision makers are living in the 1990s and can't see where technology is going, and don't really care. They're more invested in defending their limited knowledge base. I wish that was a situation that Apple could fix. But I think it's just a matter of waiting until those people retire and new more open-minded IT workers take their place. Until then, it will be a struggle for Apple to make inroads at my institution.

I like Tim Cook. He has grown into a more well rounded leader than when he first took over. Perfect...no. But even Steve was not perfect (Lisa, Cube, Newton, etc.). And I really like that at least for now, no plans to merge Mac OS with iOS. Sure, they can borrow from each other but they ultimately serve different purposes.
The Newton is not a Job's creation he killed it.
Cook is terribly boring, he doesn't generate any enthusiasm nor offered any news here.

Apple could really run away with enterprise mobility if they only tried.
What apple needs:

Cloud based "Apple Configurator"
Companies sign up and pay for the service

Company devices somehow get "tagged" so that when they check into "iCloud" they are redirected to the company's cloud configurator for registration and control automatically

Would allow for DEEP integration to the IOS (as this is coming directly from apple) Like move/organize icons, set restritions, move any switch set any options, create profiles, etc

Remote wipe, remote de-register (and remove all company customization/apps/email, etc...)

Would be nice if they allowed remote control to remotely support users

Streamline the app deployment, get rid of those .csv files for redeemed apps, we should be able to "buy" any number of an app through the cloud (say 100 copies) and deploy those apps to 100 devices, if one device goes off of my cloud configurator then the apps no longer work on the device and I get one license back.

Use GPS to track locations of devices, and perhaps geofence devices, either they "lock-down" when out of geofence or they alert, or email the admin or any combination.

Maybe allow for group Imessage and possibly group facetime all controlled through this company cloud configurator.

Anyway, thats what I want.

Apple's only different with the features set they build into iOS for businesses,

You know want a company is like when u say "a CEO knows what users what" Really ? have u asked me ?"

I'm all for Tim saying this, but its kind of a put of.... a CEO of a company telling and knowing what users want,,, like they can't think for themselves anymore.

That's where most Apple fans and me part :D

"clearly these operating systems are different things. So we have no intention to blend them"

Praised be Gods.

I'm totally with you and it's great to get confirmation on this, but to be honest, it was only ever the paranoid few on this site who went on massive rants about how Apple's end goal was to transform OS X in iOS. And it sucked in other readers. There was never any evidence aside from those declaring it so. Bringing uniformity in look and useful features to both OSes doesn't equal they want to dumb down OS X and make it iOS. It was so ridiculous at one point that somebody tried to argue that handoff was a really bad idea because why would anybody want to take a phone call on their MAC. I guess when one lives in the Basement of Solitude one doesn't need to converse with others...
