how long was Balmer CEO of Microsoft? no, I'm sure he has the job for as long as he chooses to. do you need him for something else?
Tim will remain the CEO as long as the board of directors and the stockholders are happy. I, for one, find no problems with his performance to date. He's doing a pretty good job, even if things seem to be running a bit behind schedule in the computer department.
No, they would just direct Tim to say that Apple would be better off focusing less on the iPhone and more on the Mac.
That of course will never occur, because Apple is making crazy amounts of money on the iPhone. Why change course on a successful business plan and focus on a product or platform that has less growth and profit potential

Probably long enough, until people stop confiding in Apple's hardware and software. The only great things currently coming out of Apple are their iPhone and iOS. They've ruined their applications, they've ruined Mac OS, and, in some ways, they've ruined aspects of their Macs.
I might be wrong but I have the feeling that sooner or later, they might drop the Mac line and move it to the iPad Pro platform. It seems that they are transforming Mac OS towards iOS.

Apple has already shown that they're more interested in profits, and that's something the shareholders care about as well.
That's Tim Cook's Apple and a betrayal of Steve Job's Apple which put product first.
As long as the shareholders remain customers too I guess Apple has nothing to worry about.

I understand the underlying criticism. Tim Cook has been an adequate CEO. But he has hardly demonstrated leadership. In the time period since Tim has been CEO;
We have seen the iphone show up in ridiculous trend following colors.
The Mac Pro change to a new form factor, while gaining no performance improvement over it's predecessor. And omitting a simple thing such as a Kensington lock slot.
Apple professional software is withering on the vine, the mis-step of Final Cut Pro X has caused most of the video post industry to flee to competitors. Logic Pro hasn't had a full update in years and Aperture is gone.
Releasing an 'innovative' iPhone with no headphone jack, because Apple owns Beats.
Jony Ive has been indulged all of his manic-obsessive design impulses.
Everything Apple makes is now as thin and as devoid of visible jacks and power buttons as possible. Regardless of how this affects functionality. You know, user experience?
Personally I think Tim Cook is probably a great CEO. However the problem of promoting from within is that people may be recalcitrant to exercise authority over or express criticism of their former peers. You know Jobs never restrained himself in that regard when it came to Cook, Schiller or Ive.
Under Tim Cook Apple has remained profitable, but I'd hardly consider it the innovative Willy Wonka factory it once was.

That's a shame you feel that way. Man while, Apple has the top selling laptop and the top selling desktop in the world.
I'm not too sure about apple pay, but Apple music, icloud and to some degree icloud photo library are horrible substandard products and the only way they achieve any kind of traction is on the back of fundamentally broken music, photo and storage management on both iphone and mac.
the numbers look good for shareholders, and diehard apple fans might be able to delude themselves into thinking they're doing something wrong or do not need features like google photo, but for how long?

In my opinion, the only reason people use Google Photos, is because they are ignorant to what they do with their photos, and because they don't pay for it. That's not a business in my book.
For some reason Google generates $20B a quarter, which $18B are from advertising, and $2B from everything else. Including their cloud services, corporate solutions, and their monstrous home user base (there are like 5x more Google Android devices out there compared to iCloud). Now what's that compared to Apple services?
No, you can't say that Apple services are "horrible substandard products", it's just fanboyism, the part where you say "to delude themselves into thinking they're doing something wrong or do not need features like google photo", what kind of crap is this? Google Photo is an Apple Photos 1:1 copy (even the icon), Apple had that way before, and only now Google/Android users are experiencing it! Yet still is inferior to iOS experience, where the OS transfers the photos on the fly from the servers, when you request them.

Motorola did nothing, it's like comparing a fax machine to a digital camera, not even if you skint hard. Motorola thingy (that's not even theirs) was so bad that they immediately dropped it.
with compression its free, without compression you pay, i pay.
The icloud backed photos app is impressive as a demonstration untill you tried google photos, after that it will seem locked in, unwieldy and lowtech. I doubt apple will be able to mimic their discovery features any faster than it took them to mimic their google docs features (10 years?), on the other hand the special Apple photo features can best be described as cheesy and gimmicky.
As a developer google make me marvel at HOW they do it, and apple make me marvel at How they get away with doing it so stupidly, i think i could code a better solution in a few months.
Another issue is if you trust google with your photos, and the ability to map your life with AI that follows, but thats another matter.
if we were talking about a retail store like wallmart that would speak volumes more about the quality of their CEO than a company like Apple.
I've been an Apple fan for ages, almost 10 years now and worked on Apple gear only for the last 5. I dont think I have ever been a fanboy, but i've certainly given them a LOT of goodwill for otherwise questionable or unappealing options. I wish that me describing apple services as "horrible substandard products" was a result of android fanboyism, but it's not it's simply a return to objective thought. And it means that I will have to make a lot of annoying changes to work and home life.

Who is going to pay for Google Photos, really? It's a subpar copy of Apple Photos, designed only to take money from Apple revenue stream. And get more data for data mining.

Apple is superior as a quantifiable fact. It makes more money, people are disposed to pay for it. With Google on the other hand, if it was a paid feature, nobody would get into it.

Everything they try to sell, mirrors what they really are: crappy company that gets away because most people are ignorant about the dangers and preoccupation of data mining.
Everything they do is a flop:
- Nexus? Flop
- Cloud services? Flop. Can't compete even with Amazon, FFS!
- Search? Crap! Everybody uses it because there's no alternative. Most of times you do a difficult search, it comes with crap, with pages and pages of no results.
- Youtube? Crap! Only idiots breaking iPhones and idiots watching it. Don't deny it.
- YouTube Red? Crap! Nobody bought it
- Play Store? Crap! Even with 85% of the mobile market, nobody buys stuff from them, sepcially Apps, where a large number have intrusive advertising, spy users, and many cases of malware, including rootkits
- Nest? Stopped innovating really when Google bought them, now they fired the man.
- Self driving car
- Free internet
- VR on Android
- Google Plus
- Google Hangouts (after Google Talk)

YouTube is crap? Only idiots watch it? I didn't know there were SO many idiots around – some videos have over billion views and it's hard to believe they were played in a loop by idiots for weeks or months 
I also use Play Store, for apps and books – they pretty much always have the same books at 70% price. I have Photos backup enabled but it doesn't seem to import folders made in Apple's Photos correctly so I just have a dump of all photos together. Which is not so handy if you want to show someone something and first you have to go through nudes, nice graffiti, screenshots from my phone, etc. I use iCloud for photos because my Macbook Pro has a 128 GB SSD and with iCloud I can actually look/show all my photos without problems in good enough quality, and if I want the original file, I can download it. This is the only bit of iCloud where I can't point my finger and go "AAAHAAAAA NOT AGAIN".
I don't really like Google. Because I think their "don't be evil" philosophy got somewhat changed to "don't be evil to your shareholders and do everything to please them, no matter how unethical it is". But that still doesn't mean I am going to fork €800 on an iPhone without headphone jack. Or stop using GMail. Or, well, googling things. At least not before they figure out how to block my Adblock.
