Apple News is clearly heavily left leaning, like 90% of mainstream media, but you can just choose not to use it. It is disappointing that it is so lame, but that's the way it goes. I am not a fan of the government pressure. I would prefer the market to just continue ignoring it. Terrible ratings is the best way to deal with biased content.

Ok, but this isn't Apple creating the content. It is distributing other people's content. What would be different if there's only the AppStore? Republicans would still complain if their favorite outlets aren't featured.
It’s “news” so it will be inherently political and will be politicized. News apps and news websites exist. Stay out of it all and above the fray. Refocus on hardware and making app stores and app dev tools and get out of stuff that’s overtly political, leave both sides to fight it out and refocus the company on device stuff, like how much key travel a keyboard should have. Why their mouse sucks ass. Why users cannot crop a video system wide. How Google leapfrogged them in documents. Unboxing and setting up a new device. The lack of dual and triple port chargers. Why iMessage should be cross-platform (spoiler: so an Apple device user can easily message everyone out of the box and no longer need to install other messaging apps). Devices sizes (bigger and smaller). How fluid and delightful the software experience is. Product stuff.

Hum. Seems like a waste of Tax payer money. Maybe Apple News is more left leaning, but that might be because the right leaning decided to not support Apple News. I tend to find more down the middle reporting from a few outlets I enjoy, but I also try to get information from multiple sources.

Now, did I vote for Trump? Yes I did. Do I like everything he has done? Bleep No.
Yet! I don’t blame Trump, I blame the House and Senate for behaving like elementary schoolers in the playground so bent on fighting each other because of their ‘parties’ and pointing fingers that they have FAILED to create any meaningful laws that would solve the issues and curb Trump’s … ego.
Most Trump supporters like to say things while not saying much at all. Just like Trump.

Speaking as Briton, the Daily Mail is a tabloid rag. (And Breitbart? Don't make me laugh!).

Absolutely true about the Daily Mail, but as an American, I can tell you that the DM will often have a fuller story and with pictures published, long before our American press. The greater the tragedy, the quicker it is published.

Of course, none of it is of higher educational value, but it is often published first. 🙂

and The Wall Street Journal– publications that are traditionallly considered either center outlets or nonpartisan.

The Wall Street Journal is center? Are you kidding me?

Is it a reasonably intelligent conservative voice? Yes. Yes it is. Is that what passes for left-learning now? “Oh sure, you’re conservative, but you stick to the facts! Insanity!”

And let’s not talk about what the Washington Post is right now…

Surely, if you want news, you should be looking for non-partisan reporting, so that it isn't coloured one way or the other. If I am reading news, I want a source that is equally biting on all sides of the spectrum.

I'd be equally appalled if the news stories were biased to the left or the right, so picking the most neutral sources to promote sounds like the right thing to do... As long as people can set up their own lists - we don't get Apple News here, so I don't know how users can configure it for their own needs.

My opinion: Apple should leave the content business, period. Allow app makers to fill that gap, there are well enough of them.

Focus on building devices and software platforms for developers to build apps for. Focus on improved Pro apps and developer relations and customer experiences.

Make more things cross-platform such as tap-to-share, sending cash and iMessage.

Get rid of half the products you make and make doubly-good the remaining half. Adding an additional display size in many cases. And fix display sizing in general, the laptop display sizes are illogical and confusing, as is iMac.

Simplify product naming across the board. No numbers or childish sub-naming (mini, plus, iPhone 19 Pro Max Extreme Bananas). Just call it iPhone and give it three sizes and make a big fat one called iPhone Ultra in three sizes. No other phones. Apple Display, Apple Display Pro. Simplify.

Address common product complaints. Both hardware and software, including long-time bugs and basic missing and expected features.

Fix the AAA gaming problem.

Create a drag-and-drop design app that also features voice input for shape and gradient generation and manipulation. It’s insane that in 2026 an Apple app developer needs a third party app to make an app icon and branding logo.

After exiting the content businesses, it leaves so much work to do if the focus comes back to being great at the few things you do. It leaves more than enough work.

Tick-tock from software focused year to a hardware focused year, focusing on hardware practical and functionality and software reliability and delight.

Stop trying to be everything and make everything. Refocus on devices. Double iCloud storage tiers.

Sigh... And yet do you think ANY of the People / Detartments involved in content have ANYTHING to do with the stuff you are raging about?

TV and Film production
News Curation
Music
Software Design
Coding
Marketing - Naming convention.

All are separate and HELP to make revenue.

Simplifying...The very reason that they have to produce multiple devoces is we all want differnt things at different price points. not sure what your issue is there.

AAA gaming problem? They don't care. Mobile leads with 46% of revenue, followed by console (32%) and PC (22%).
Mobile gaming dominates the industry with roughly 3 billion players (83% of the total 3.6B global gaming population) as of 2025, while PC and console have significantly smaller audience but obviously price points are much cheaper.

I do think they could hit a console market with a GamePod - Beefed - Apple TV with an M5 for $250. AA games. I'd buy one.

But they are not going be able to complete with the really quite niche 5070+ buyers... or the more likely PS5 purchases That's what I'd buy for proper gaming - I am never going to spend 2k+ on an amazing PC.

As horrible as libs are, conservatives are worse in their inability to govern, understand facts, etc.

But the news app was crap. I tried the trial and they still had the balls to put in ads. You want me to pay money and you will STILL put in ads?! I get my news on X (certain places) or YouTube and occasionally news sites. I don’t need Apple News expensive service, I can get elsewhere for free.

America's media is so incredibly unbalanced it's hilarious.

Their "left leaning news" like CNN seems to just be mostly fact based. There are definitely segments which concentrate of criticising republican governments - and I mean with Trump if they didn't do it, who would - the entire thing needs a spotlight shone on it. That doesn't make it "fake news" it just means they over comitted to critcising one side.

Where as Fox News seems literally mental. It's like a television version of our Daily Mail. Just utter nonense by over dramatic over excited nutty people. It's very very weird - but then so is a lot of America.

The UK is getting more like America unfortunatly - where our unbiased outlets are criticised for being "left wing" because the far right is so insane, like Trump, they talk utter nonsense that any resonable person would find nuts. The subtle inticracise of policy and politics is dead, which is what the like of the Independant and Guardian would discuss and pull apart - they still do but because it's based on facts and the far right general aren't they consider it "biased and leftist".

I would say only 10%-20% of the country is capable of critical thinking on any political issue anyway which is why unbiased journalism is rare. You're writing for the minority.

Good. It is so brazen I quit using the app years ago.

I mean it's not like the current government illegally Fired all the FTC that didn't align with their views ( many lawsuits ), then added White House Oversight where FTC and other INDEPENDENT agencies to submit all proposed regulations to the White House for approval. Something that is ENTIRELY out of the White House's remit and who are now dictating the work this INDEPENDENT agency do. That's something that hasn't happened at all.. Oh hold on.

Worth point out that Biden appointed the Chairman Andrew Ferguson ( a republican ) because he and that party are capable of non partisan appointments because they are grown ups.

How about a simple choice menu? Indicate which news sources you want to follow? Also: doesn't Apple Pay those news sources for the aggregated news?

I’m British and don’t know many of the outlets it mentions.

But I do know the daily mail which is right wing clickbait.

I’d say that outlets like the UK’s Guardian are often left wing clickbait too.

So for me, I relish different opinions and fearless reporting.

the issue is mistaking the above with clickbait, which sadly, is what most journalism is nowadays, in the race to the free ad supported bottom.

So what they seem to be asking for is more clickbait. Not good.

Politics left and right is full of dicks, liars and actors. Fortunately I’ve unplugged from the left-right dialectic and ignore them all. For Apple, they are a tech company that forgot who they are.
Yes a tech company that has successfully branched into other areas. They know exactly what and who they are and what they can do.

Sounds like the FTC wants to make sure the real facts get shared with Americans
