I'll write it again: "I don't idolize him, I just like the company's products."

Read it again and understand that I didn't care much for Steve. He was who he was and Apple was different under his guidance. I don't doubt Cook has/will do a great job at Apple, it's simply different now.

And I care about their products, and only that.

We don't know that Apple is "different" now, and you have certainly not specified anything that you think is "different" except that Steve is no longer there. Rereading your posts doesn't shed any further light on what you think is different.

I am also a fan of Tim Cook. I think a lot of people are going to change their minds and support him once we finally see what Apple has been working on all this time. I am very excited about their TV plans, and also am eager to see their take in the waerables space.

I also enjoy Cook's interviews a lot. A like his work ethic and reserved tone of voice.

He is Steve Jobs? Of course not. And that is a good thing. The best advice Steve gave to the company was not use the What Would Steve Do mantra.

The only thing the company did since Steve left they wouldn't have done was iOS 7. That was clearly a move in a different direction, especially because Steve was a Forestall supporter in general.

Remembering Steve on his birthday: "Details matter, it’s worth waiting to get it right."

Really Tim? So why the f did you rush iOS7? And Mavericks? And iTunes11?

None of those 3 products are revolutionary market changing products. iPod, iPhone, iPad, those products are revolutionary. The iWatch would be on the same level of those products and just FYI, there was a 6-7 year gap between iPod and iPhone.

Yes we're all missing out by not buying a Galaxy Gear. I mean a Gear 2. Sorry, I meant a Gear 10.1 with S-Pen. No, my mistake, the Gear 12-mini, that's the one for sure. Thank goodness I didn't wait for Apple.

So how is that iPad 7 of yours?

Every time Steve’s birthday comes around, it always serves as a sad reminder of how far too early he left this world. :(

As for MacRumors…Arnold Kim should be a name known to everyone around the world for the fine work that he has done with MacRumors. I know that this is, probably, one of my top two most visited sites on the internet. It has been an extremely useful and entertaining place over the years (since I first started visiting around 2003). Thank you, Mr Kim!

Mavericks wasn't rushed, its by far the most polished OS X since probably Snow Leopard... I mean, just compare it to Lion, which was released while Jobs was still alive.

iTunes 11 was delayed a month to 'get it right', and I think it has and continues to work really well - much better than those before it.

-- I have no argument for iOS7... they definitely should have waited and released iOS7.1 instead. :p

honestly,I don't care about any smart watch or TV at all.
just focus on iOS 8,and iPhone 6 please...and of course continue the awesomeness of Macs.

Sad we are "celebrating" Steve Job's birthday with worldwide stories of the worst security flaw in the worst iOS . Details DO matter. Just not as much as they used to at apple.

It's a shame that MR can't have something nice for those that cared about Steve Jobs and all that he did to keep Apple from not only dying back in 1997 but to become the most important tech company today (and the most profitable) without a bunch of people who can't seem to do anything with their time other than bash a wonderful leader and talented CEO (Tim Cook), the best tech company in the world (Apple) or a true visionary taken too quickly from this world (Steve Jobs)... a crying shame:

Someone did, and eloquently so. For me, it's the only post in this thread that matters:

Rest in peace, Steve.

So young. It's tragic. Needless to say, he was an inspiration to many, an enemy to some, a villain to others.

You could quote him, disagree with him, glorify or vilify him -

But you can't ignore him. Because he changed things. He pushed the human race forward.

Where others saw crazy, we saw genius.

Because the one who was crazy enough to change the world, was the one who did.

Happy birthday !!

Steve is 59 ? Time sure flies when your using their gadgets....

If this wasn't even mentioned, I wouldn't have known...

Just goes to show we're so in-depth with Apple and /or tech now-days, the days just "fly by"

Steve will be stroking that beard for all eternity..... its how we'll remember him...

Others are already shipping products. Why wait for products from Apple that are not even announced but merely rumored?
Well, the waiting part has been working okay for Apple so far:
MP3 player -> iPod
Smartphone -> iPhone
Tablet PCs -> iPad
Ultraportables -> Macbook Air

It depends on the product and how you deliver it.

And yes, I don't think there's such a thing called an iWatch. The iWatch is just a rumor conjured up by the tech bloggers and repeated so often in their own echochambers that they themselves now believe it's real.

Soon, they'll be an iToaster, and iFridge.

Cook in style.

For example, IOS 7 was a much more unstable OS for me than any other ones so far. More resprings, errors and resets than I can recall.

I felt a lot more excited when the iPhone 3 and 4 came out rather than the 5 and 5S.

These two reasons are my experience so far.

I miss Steve

Hi all,

I figured I'd take this opportunity (seeing as how it's Steve's birthday and all) to say that I really miss the guy. I never met him, but what he meant to not only the electronics industry but to the future and our culture as well was so tremendous.

That said, this is the internet and a complaint is lingering around the corner. I really wish he was still around. I like to believe Jacob Appelbaum when he said that Apple didn't join in with the NSA party until after Steve passed, and I really, really, don't want to talk politics (lest we move to the PRSI) but I can't help that feeling. Again, that's a discussion for another day, what I really take issue with is the massive corporation feel I've been getting from Apple lately. I realize that most of that was in place well before anything happened, but it seems so much worse. Phil Schiller is great at marketing but at times it looks like he's in charge and marketing is, for lack of a better word, ******.

Their pro market tech was dissipating well before Tim took over but now it seems like they're not even trying. The software does't even come close to "just works" anymore. My old Airport Extreme is a powerhouse of Apple software and hardware but it's six years old. Same with my PowerBook G4, it's eight years old and it can't run any modern software, but it never locked up. My 2011 MBA locks up all the time. My iPhone 5 is a pretty solid piece of hardware but the software seems utterly horrible. Maybe I just have bad luck but mine is straight up infested with bugs. I've not really been a fan of iOS but unlike some things, it seems to only get worse over time.

I'm not totally pissed though, the hardware is largely good. I'm moving to Linux but I will likely have Apple laptops (running Ubuntu and TAILS though) for the foreseeable future, and those 27" iMacs seem to be a pretty good deal.

I hope this doesn't come off as the usual "I wish Apple were more like Dell" thread. That's not really my point. I understand that I can't upgrade the RAM in my 11" Macbook Air, I traded that privilege for (nearly) unparalleled portability. My overall point is that Apple doesn't feel like the innovator it used to be (sorry Phil) and more of a bottom-line-obsessed corporate beast. They have the money and probably still have the people to make good stuff again so why not?

I realize that Apple owes me nothing. I don't expect them to hear my complaint and do a solitary thing about it, I'm just ranting, but I want to know if I'm alone. Am I the only one who feels like the Apple we knew and loved is slipping away?

Your feelings aren't a good barometer of anything but your feelings.
