For this price it should have had an A6 processor and Retina display. Pretty obvious what the iPad Mini 2 will have.
I laugh at the quote of apple saying they want to make products that aren't just appealing in the moment, meanwhile we have articles here describing how droves of people rush to ditch their previous generation device when a new one comes out, even if only a few months have passed.
I feel like the 2nd or 3rd generation of this product will be worth getting, but as it is right now, I'm not sure if its worth 329. Maybe for some people, but not me.
They're definitely gonna put a retina display next year.
I'm not sure how much of an improvement a faster processor would really give me. Until developers create apps that require that extra power
Loads of people will buy this over ipad4 because of size alone.
It's mad how so many forum posters are obsessed with specs to the extent they forget about practical day to day considerations.
I agree Mr. Cook!
It's so obvious to most people who understand the dynamics here. Then there are the ever present and constant whiners out there. who never seem satisfied with anything and would rather just complain. Even before the product is released!
This is going to be a terrific product and I can't wait to get my hands on one! I will also be upgrading my iPad 3 to the new one.
To the detractors, go get an android device, see how you like that! We'll miss ya and sooner or later you will see the difference in experience!
Good heavens man, the guy is just expressing his opinion.
By the way, I think that your conclusion is incorrect.
The 7" market such as the Fire DOES have the higher resolution screen, whereas the iPad Mini DOES NOT.
How is the iPad mini competing? Certainly not on price nor on all of the features that the consumer wants.
No..you cant. Putting a retina display in it would have put the price up, and we'd be looking at a $450 tablet.
The bottom line comes down to price - if Apple want to compete in the 7" market, they needed to keep the costs low (which is one of the reasons the Mini doesn't have things such as a GPS chip in the 3g model, unlike the full iPad).
Also, at no point have I been pushing anything about the retina being a standard for websites and apps.
I agree a bit defensive. With both Cook and Schiller publicly defending the price, this is a bad look, on one level an acknowledgement that the price is too high.A bit surprised by the defensive tone.
Which will be coming in six months. For this price it should have had an A6 processor and Retina display. Pretty obvious what the iPad Mini 2 will have.
I'm in a household with one iPad2 and one iPad3 - and the mini is definitely going to be pre-ordered here. I don't pretend that I don't really love my Apple toys, but I've become a huge fan because I have owned/used a competitors smaller product - and that has made me want this mini all the more (perfect for traveling or back and forth to work/home). The competition gets better with each product they release, but it still doesn't come anywhere close to the experience I've had with Apple's pads. It's not just the feel of the quality or the hardware - or the operating system - there is a lot to be said for the experience of the combination of the three. Like Apple or not - there is no denying that they own the "full package".
I don't see anything wrong with paying $199-$250 for the competition because quite honestly after using them, they don't justify a higher price tag - but I have no doubt that the iPad mini will justify its price point after the first use. Just one man's opinion.
That is a comment about yourself.
The problem is that the only reason someone would buy this product over iPad 4 is price, but the price is not that much lower.
Who is the person who can afford the $329 for this but can't afford the extra $170 to get iPad 4?
Which will be coming in six months.
Didn't ya'll learn that lesson with the iPad 3?
I never called the screen "junk', nor made any disparaging remarks at all.Have you seen the screens on both devices where you can compare? Or can you make that determination on specs alone? I'm waiting to see one in person before I proclaim the screen junk.
For this price it should have had an A6 processor and Retina display. Pretty obvious what the iPad Mini 2 will have.
Think about it this way. The iPad mini is basically a smaller iPad 2. (So no need to whine about the lack of an A6 or retina display; the iPad 2 doesn't have those either.)
Selling stuff at cost doesn't make sense in the long run.
Apple's not a charity.
iOS needs an overhaul. Every time the cool new product photos are released, I look at them and say to myself: "Cool new hardware! But there's that plain-Jane iOS home screen again.....blah." And I'm brought back down to earth. I honestly think the product photos would be more effective with the screen turned off.
I don't get how people are asking for a Retina on the iPad mini... What resolution do you want it at? ....
