Steve Jobs did a lot for the technology. Really a lot.

Did he do something form humanity, I don't know, but he may have done things that are important and nobody speaks about it, or he may have done little.

I expect him to stay in the history of technology alongside Edison and Musk.

People talk about Apple losing its soul but it's a completely different tech environment now to what it was when Steve Jobs was running the company. I think Tim Cook understood the choice was to keep moving on or stagnate.

He did a lot for humanity by concentrating on the business of tech. And staying out of other stuff.

Got to wonder, was ‘Carelessness to me is just seeing people as a potential revenue stream’, a dig at Tim Cook?

If anyone has ever opened a MacBook Air or Pro and especially the Mac Pro, they realise how much of the "Back of the Drawer" effort has been put in. Apple redefined design into good design. All of the other manufacturers had to follow suit just to get their devices as thin. Before that, everyone else was just lazy (poor design).
Yes, most of us are still remembers that damned butterfly keyboard what Apple delivered for years...

Apple usually have a 4-5 year lead time on products, but they did 'try' and fix it. Eventually they came up with a keyboard that is arguably better, but it was 5 more years in the making. The idea of the butterfly was sound, but they didn’t bank on dirt destroying it so easily. But again, it was still only a fairly small percentage who had problems. At least they are pushing boundaries and don’t rely on others to lead the way.

the puck was also a very good example...
(original iMac Bondi Blue mouse).

Happily later on they understood a mouse should have a different form, and changed it.
(with the charging cable at the bottom...)

Mind you, this was not a start-up company, but Apple, the biggest enterprise in the world.

I'm glad Ive did not become a carpenter, of the furniture in my house.

Apple definitely lost its soul after Steve died. I think a lot of customers lost their connection with the brand.

Apple today feels completely different to when Steve was running it.
I agree it feels like a different company, because it is. When Steve came back it was like a ship with a hole in it and Gil Amelio was trying to point it in the right direction. When Steve left, a groundwork had been built from which the wildly successful company we see today sprung forth. Apple is also less prone to take actual innovative risks because, that’s how it goes when your stock is as legendary as your products. While I agree that this event wasn’t the most exciting ever (specifically the phone part) Apple has been killing it lately. For example I have a 12 Pro Max and the fact the 14 isn’t an “instabuy” for me is largely a statement of how great my current product is. Then there’s Apple Silicon, what an epic refresh that was, eh?

I doubt you (or pretty much anyone) could afford it!

Started off with almost 1300 kg of aluminium to create something very sleek! But at least it was for charity. Product (RED)

And then the camera. https://marc-newson.com/red-leica-camera/

Now take that care and attention to detail to the sys prefs in Ventura :)

Someone above mentioned the After Steve book… Im staring at it (along with a stack of other responsibilities) right now. Had hoped to read it this summer, but it's been pushed back until this semester is over. Hop to get to it eventually.

********-o-meter: 100%. :)

They just wanted to skip the process when they have to modify the top case which required them new tools ($$$) for actual casing, the new keyboard what you mentions is actually just the same old scissor mechanics one from the 2015 era.

Push the boundaries, but don't **** with your long standing users for YEARS, especially if you're sitting on a pile of money that big as Apple.

"You know, you can please some of the people, some of the time" - Steve Jobs

While the keyboards have swapped back to the old and tried scissor mechanisms, they did improve the stability over the 2015 scissor mechanism. Credit should be given where credit is due.

When designing anything as it is with film and music, the artist always tries their best to do what they think is best for the people. Someone's bound to love it and someone's bound to hate it. In the end, that's all you can do and learn from those successes and mistakes.

Apple is a business and they don't try to hide that fact. Without money, there is no business. And designing something good takes time. In order to stay afloat, they must balance what makes economic sense while pushing the technology and design forward.

I'm sure they're still experimenting with new ways of making more stable keyboards after the fact and you can see some of the work from the patents that they've filed recently.

This felt weird.

They keep reiterating what Steve said, but they dont seems to understand why Steve said it in the first place.

Clearly you don’t understand the process, otherwise you wouldn’t "…wah wah wah" stomping your feet.

The scissor mechanics might be a scissor mechanic, but it wasn't the same keyboard. I had nothing to do with money.

As I said, you clearly don’t understand the process.

I meant its a different company in a terrible way. Too many product splits, overpricing, poor innovation, becoming service focused.

Innovation: Do you have an M1/2 Mac? Do you have an emergency satellite phone in your daily carry? How good are the AirPods Pro? Spatial Audio is so cool. I love my airtags. I haven’t lost a single suitcase, but even if I did, I would know where to find them without having to enter into a tile ecosystem with the rest of the world to be any good.

Pricing: The new Apple Watch Ultra has some great features without the extra cost associated with some other Watches (Fenix X7 for example) for people who don’t need that level all the time. How much is the Z Fold/Flip again? Macbook Air is a really capable computer and soooo portable for a wonderfully low price. And we’re comparing that to any computer you want to name.

Products Splits: There’s this thing called an eco system. Dont get me started on how well Apple Products integrate together... Okay, you got me started. I love having Apple Watch work with the Apple TV for fitness. 2 completely different products that work seamlessly together. I love how google Chrome Cast works so well with the Google Watc… never mind. Samsung TV's and Samsung Fitness and Galaxy Watch…. Dang, did it again…. Let’s move on to other (split) products working so well together…. Nah, there’s probably a word limit to these posts….

Service Focussed: YEP, they provide fantastic services that work super well with their premium products. You got me there. Had your Gmail account scanned by google recently? I know I have….

So, what is it that you actually want from a company born from a garage?

M series chips still can’t compete with higher end Intel/AMD and Nvidia GPU’s. Don’t believe Apples misleading graphs.

Nobody needs a satellite phone and it only works in emergencies. Make the satellite function a feature that works seamlessly with the cellular network to stay connected all the time for every function e.g. phone calls, surfing the web etc.

Products have been overpriced for the last 3-4 years. A fully maxed out MacBook Pro 16 inch still can’t compete with Windows machines kitted with latest gen Intel chips and Nvidia GPU’s.

Product split has nothing to do with the ecosystem. Having one iPhone, one iPad etc like it used to be means everyone gets the same phone with the latest features. The only reason multiple iPhone variations exist is Apple being greedy. The only variation that is acceptable is screen size and storage size. Other than that everything should be identical.

What I want from them currently is to drastically cut back on the product variations as the only reason they do it is to find an angle to raise prices for products no longer worth the price.

With regard to the M Chips. Show me a laptop that competes with the MacBook Air. For battery, thermals, portability, power and then price. Please. All of the competitors either throttle, have poor battery or just plain suck. Why do you have to plug in a windows machine to get full CPU performance?

I never said it was the most powerful computer available. But feel free to keep your coffee hot on the body of your computer whilst rendering 6 x 8K videos simultaneously. Just take care you don’t reboil it, as it might spill.

Products absolutely has to do with the ecosystem. Sure I get that you don’t like the Apple Watch SE or the Ultra, or the standard Apple watch with or without the stainless steel. I chose the stainless steel version this time because it suits me. Others will choose the SE because it suits them. Same goes with the iPhone. I chose the Pro, because I use the LiDAR. I have the iPad Pro, my wife has the iPad Mini. It’s about choice. Most people do.

I respect that you want to be told you can only have this iPad, or this iPhone and you don’t want choices. Thats totally up to you. But if you want to compare companies, because you appear to hate Apple, Samsung has (just in phones):

A whole range of Z phones
A whole range of S phones
A whole range of FE phones
A whole range of M phones (just for the bigger battery)
A whole range of A phones
A whole range of J phones

Apple has 2 iPhones, 2 iPhone Pros and 1 iPhone SE. That’s 5 phones put out once per year and covering different price points, uses, sizes.

So I’d really like to understand how you can think Apple has sooooo many things going on when a company 1/6th the size of Apple puts out a new version of phone every 2 months!

Nobody needs Fall Detection on their Apple Watch until they do either. That’s probably the silliest comment you made.
Clearly you’re here just to poo on Apple, so I understand why your comments have such little substance. It’s a potentially life saving feature and bet it saves peoples lives.

I respectfully disagree. The fact Apple isn't constantly tossing noodles at the wall to show off "innovation" is because their innovation has allowed them to incrementally improve a tried and true winning formula.

Majority of people don’t care about the heat as long as it’s vented efficiently allowing full performance to be achieved.

You can have one of each product and they will form the ecosystem. Don’t need the others.

It’s not about being told it’s about Apple splitting it for no reason. The only
iPhone models that should exist are the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.

Samsung has done that out of necessity to compete and to capture the market share.

Apple only really needs around 20 products on sale. That’s including variations of every single product they sell.

Case of too many cooks spoil the broth when it comes to Apple products. They didn’t need an Apple Watch Ultra on top of the Series 8 and SE.

Just make the Ultra the only Apple Watch available.
