I live a short drive from the coast and love walking along the bays and ocean in San Diego, as well as hiking in the regional park further east. If what I saw on my hikes and in my neighborhood is any indication of how much concern others are showing for the well-being of their fellow citizens, as well as the State economy, I'm all for shutting everything down. I'm not happy about that. But why shut the schools if families are going to have block parties and get together for hikes and intermingle kids and adults as if there's no reason to shut the schools? If people behaved in a more responsible way, the beaches and parks would be open. A model I saw projected a high death rate in California of around 270 per day from COVID-19. A little over a week later, that projection was revised to 60-some per day. The draconian measures are working. Again, I don't like it, I wish you could surf and swim, but people forced governmental leaders to take extreme measures.
With Tim's close contacts with the Chinese government, the task force will get China's input.

How can a CEO of any large organization find time to do justice to his or role in such a task force? An independent director - maybe. Doesn't the board have to approve this?
With 37,000 Apple employees in California with a good number of them not working yet collecting a paycheck with full benefits, and 53 empty Apple Stores not producing revenue, I suspect Apple's board would be thrilled having Mr. Cook's input to the governor getting those people working again and the 53 empty Apple Stores producing revenue.
Your numbers are wrong. The annual motor vehicle fatality rate in the US is 111 per million. The coronavirus death rate in the US right now is 112 per million. So they are essentially identical. However, the motor vehicle rate is over a year, but we've only had major coronavirus deaths for, at max, 2 months.
So, the risk of a coronavirus death is about 6x that of a car fatality. And that's using the US rates, which are 1/2 that of UK, Italy, France, Spain.
