I have a problem with the fact that M1 chip supply are still constrained? That doesn't bode well. They need to get TSMC to meet the demand. How can they cut ties to Intel (maybe they never planned to), and release new Apple Silicone Macs if they aren't even close to meeting demand with existing models? Look at the wait with getting 24" iMacs. If they were to release either M1 something larger iMacs or M1 something MBPs, would their whole market be a waiting game?
The "waiting game" for a 24" iMac? Are you looking at apple.com? Any configuration I can conjure is available in 1-3 weeks. Compared to other companies, 2-3 weeks in almost instantaneous.
I waited for months for my camera, and I pre-ordered (Nikon)
Warmoth (guitar parts) offered to call me back in 6 months with an update to when they could begin work on my order.
Paul Reed Smith can't ship a standard model (I want x model in y color) for two years.
Chevy isn't going to have a C8 Corvette available anytime soon, and even if you pre-order and pay in advance, a dealership MIGHT sell your car to someone else before you come pick it up.
If you want a decent or better telescope, you can collect euphemisms for "not anytime soon." There is 'Expanded lead time,' 'back ordered,' 'more on the way,' 'extreme back ordered' and 'call us about availability.' (on products priced from $999 to Apple embarrassing $500,000).
On the bright side, you can get toilet paper at the grocery store without getting on a waiting list now.
If you are in the US, please pressure your congressmen and senators to approve that measure encouraging computer chip fabrication in the US (truth in advertising, I work in the field so I would benefit, but I do honestly believe the whole country would as well).
