Cut ties? The same Macrumors reporter just said yesterday that future Mac Pro desktops will offer next gen Xeons. Did something change?
The fact remains the whole lineup will switch eventually. Sure they sell intel chips today and will in the short to medium term. But don't expect to buy a new intel mac 4 years from now.

"Better"? Hah, try "cheaper," Timmy.
Apple product sound quality took a huge nose dive when they dropped Portal Player's DSP and codec in favor of their own inhouse solution. My Gen 1 Shuffle kicked the stuffing out of every iPod and iPhone that came after, as it was the last to feature that 3rd party chip.
No, Apple turns to inhouse for two reasons: cost and control. "Better" has nothing to do with it.

I have a problem with the fact that M1 chip supply are still constrained? That doesn't bode well. They need to get TSMC to meet the demand. How can they cut ties to Intel (maybe they never planned to), and release new Apple Silicone Macs if they aren't even close to meeting demand with existing models? Look at the wait with getting 24" iMacs. If they were to release either M1 something larger iMacs or M1 something MBPs, would their whole market be a waiting game?
The "waiting game" for a 24" iMac? Are you looking at apple.com? Any configuration I can conjure is available in 1-3 weeks. Compared to other companies, 2-3 weeks in almost instantaneous.

I waited for months for my camera, and I pre-ordered (Nikon)
Warmoth (guitar parts) offered to call me back in 6 months with an update to when they could begin work on my order.
Paul Reed Smith can't ship a standard model (I want x model in y color) for two years.
Chevy isn't going to have a C8 Corvette available anytime soon, and even if you pre-order and pay in advance, a dealership MIGHT sell your car to someone else before you come pick it up.
If you want a decent or better telescope, you can collect euphemisms for "not anytime soon." There is 'Expanded lead time,' 'back ordered,' 'more on the way,' 'extreme back ordered' and 'call us about availability.' (on products priced from $999 to Apple embarrassing $500,000).

On the bright side, you can get toilet paper at the grocery store without getting on a waiting list now.

If you are in the US, please pressure your congressmen and senators to approve that measure encouraging computer chip fabrication in the US (truth in advertising, I work in the field so I would benefit, but I do honestly believe the whole country would as well).

You're stating the obvious. Most people here already know that.

Tim Cook on Apple Deciding to Manufacture Components: 'We Ask Ourselves If We Can Do Something Better'

And he did not say the quiet part:

"And why the hell shouldn't we get the money instead of some grabby company like Intel or AMD?"

Meanwhile Intel isn’t standing pat. Alder Lake is coming, Meteor Lake is coming, Lunar Lake is coming. And AMD is crushing it too, Zen4 and Zen5 are coming. Let’s see how the future x86 processors stack up against Apple’s M series. Meanwhile, I’m patiently waiting for my new M1x/M2 MacBook Pro.

If I had to choose which historical path to bet my company on, I’d pick Apple's…

That's one fine policy for a global titan, only use your money when you can improve the status quo and intern make money to do it all over again. Well done Tim!

Yes, Timmy, you can do "something better": return quick dial to favourite contacts on long press on phone icon!!!
You can do better. Create shortcuts for your favorite contacts. Add them to your home screen. Add their photo to their respective homescreen icons and voila, one click calling to all of your favorite contacts.
Or uses Siri and you don't even have to unlock your phone first if you're using FaceID iPhone.

Not sure I'd give Tim too much credit. Jobs planted the tree and Cook collected the fruit. Steve had to wait until Apple's design was mature enough for desktop computing. If iPhone and iPad were using Apple Silicon, why shouldn't Mac? The transition plan was exactly the same as PPC to Intel, right down to Rosetta 2.
I agree that Steve does and will always deserve credit for Apple being able to do what it does. He laid the groundwork for this type of transition by making Apple what it was and pulling it off before. That said, these innovations don't happen on their own just because Steve who was around 10 years ago made a good choice. Being able to take that chip team and grow it and advance it to what it is today takes consistent great leadership. Intel has shown us what sitting on innovation and running with poor leadership does to CPU advancements.

I mean, maybe that was simply cheaper at the time but that was approximately a thousand years ago. Clearly Apple Silicon is better than Intel and anyone who doesn't see it now will see it soon.

"We ask ourselves if we can do something better. The answer is a resounding no. So we ask ourselves if we can market it in a way that makes it look like it's better. If the answer to at least that question is yes, then we do it."

(Just kidding. The M1 is awesome.)

Apple chips are the future of the chip industry. I think Apple has been doing an amazing job when it comes in in-house chips.

Hoping iPhones and iPads inhouse chips are NEXT!
They could be the future if they were sold as installable CPUs for any PC. Locking them into the Mac line will only make them the future for the Mac industry
