At this point, I think we are pretty much watching two movies on the same screen. The critics claim that Apple lacks innovation, but seem to be able to only cite the MacBook keyboard as the sole example of why this is the case.

You are the only one that is citing the MBP.
THe lack of product innovation is in the entire computer line up.
- MAC PRO- 6 years and counting. If you count the Trashcan as a failure, which actually was, it should be more like 10 years.
- Macbooks Pro and Air. Worse design products in Apple history. And it is not just the keyboard.
- iMacs- The outside design is 10 years old. THe last recent upgrade they are still shipping in 2019 with 5400 rpm drives.
- iMac Pro- a 8k-10k supposedly "pro" computer that you cannot even upgrade the internal SSD.
- Mac Mini- after 4 years of waiting for an upgrade, they use the same old sqaure box that had and still have heating issues, and it is 70% more expensive.

NOt even to mention the major design inconsistencies throughout the product line. Like not able to connect a 1000 dollar iphone to your own computer unless you buy an extra cable. That is simply pathetic.

If you cannot see the complete Apple neglect and lack of innovation, you must be working for Apple.

Despite the Watch there was no groundbreaking Apple product.

Sales of Apple Watch and Airpods continue to grow despite the numerous criticisms against them. Again, if this doesn’t show how the “tech elite” crowd here is hilariously out of touch with the rest of the general user populace, I don’t know what will.
The Watch is a great product. Hence the grow in sales.
Mac sales have been declining Year over year. Due to the bad design and complete Apple neglect.

So I guess it comes to this. If the MacBook keyboard is your main bugbear, then switch ecosystems or hold off upgrading until Apple solves the issue. Otherwise, I am not really seeing the issue. We will each buy the products which best suit out needs, and let the profits speak for themselves.

My concern is not only the MBP. Is the complete neglect of the entire computer line up and the path Apple is taking on designing disposable non-upgradable appliances rather than computers.
What a coincidence that Apple downgraded revenues on the last quarter, and revenues are coming from services and wearables. Even iPhones revenues dropped from 70% to 58%.
iPhones sales drop 30%. major drop in iPhone entire history.
Mac sales, also dropping.
I guess users are speaking with their wallets and are tired of overpriced iPhones and the lack of innovation in the entire computer line up.
If you do a little research you will find out that the market of used cheesegrater computers and hackintosh is on fire because there are NO computer options at reasonable prices.
I was waiting in 2016 to buy 2 notebooks, and once released, I ended up buying the 2015 model due to the extremely bad design. If someone is completely out of touch with its users, is APPLE. Best example is the MBP.

I second that view. Apple apparently is all services now, having lost interest in computers. The assumption seems valid the same is going to happen to the phone if (or, rather, when) iPhone sales go down as well (we are witnesses of the process apparently, considering recent sales figures).

I wonder whom Apple expects to spend money for their services in the long term then. Android and Windows users?

Apple continues to add users to their iPhone user base via the 2nd hand iPhone market. So the simple answer is that there is a large enough user base in an absolute sense to sustain Apple’s services initiative.

Not to mention that the premium smartphone market is likely close to saturation now, so it make sense to pivot from selling iphones to selling to people with iphones.

That’s why I feel that news of declining iphone sales have been way overdramatised (but then, I guess this is nothing new here). Macs do not represent the future at Apple.

Without Macs - how can iDevices habe a future? Xcode for Windows?

That’s why Macs will still be around for the near foreseeable future, but don’t expect too much innovation in that area. Truth be told, I was expecting Apple to maintain a minimal lineup (MacBook Pro, iMac), so the release of the Mac mini and the upcoming Mac Pro still surprises me.

If you think 30% is overdramatized, then thank god you are not running Apple.
Even 15% decline should be a wake up call.

I can mention, several reasons why computers will be still around. the more decline of units and mac sales, the less options Apple has to sale their services.

Tim Cook and Co is a master genius at reaping in TRILLIONS from the billions of Apple users around the world. The iPhone is the world's most successful cash driver ever, and will simply thrive forever.

As for the Mac:

- Macbooks Pro and Air. Worse design products in Apple history. And it is not just the keyboard.
I love the butterfly keyboards. As Tim says, they are "the best keyboards ever invented, with stability and far greater comfort in typing than traditional wonky keys"

- iMacs- The outside design is 10 years old. THe last recent upgrade they are still shipping in 2019 with 5400 rpm drives.
The iMac has the world's best design created by King Jony Ive. No need to change when its already YEARS ahead.

NOt even to mention the major design inconsistencies throughout the product line. Like not able to connect a 1000 dollar iphone to your own computer unless you buy an extra cable. That is simply pathetic.
Why do u even need to connect ur phone to a computer via a cable, an ancient technology? Use the power of iCloud instead.

Please explain why Apple decided to go back to the older keyboard? Because it broke and had so many issues that Apple got several class action lawsuits. It does not matter that you like it if it broke for thousands of other users.
It was the worse design ever.

The iMac is OLD and it shows. It is NOT years ahead, it is years behind, especially when they are shipping in 2020 with a 5400 rpm drive.

These comment shows your complete ignorance about the subject.
iCloud does not create a complete backup. For a true complete back up you need to connect it to a computer.
and the port is also used for many third parties for other purposes.

Tim Cooks job is to make profits for Apple - which he has done amazingly well. He's concentrated on the iphone for obvious reasons. If profit is your motivation, and you achieve that by producing the best smart phone products, then so be it. But that market is now saturated. Air pods has given it a boost - bit that's now saturated as well. Glass MAY follow on.

Eventually they will go back to the original core market of computers. Higher value. They just need to make the best. And the current range is well short of best. Update the mini, Add a headless pro between Macpro & mini, update Imac, new 42" 4k screens.
