So you need people to use apple maps in order to make it better, yet you guide people to use other map apps cause Apple's sucks? The data is already out there. Stop awarding the contract to the lowest bidder, open you wallet like we all open outs and pay to get good data not 10 year old crap.

I live in an urban area near the centre of a major city so in bed I was geeky correcting dozens of POIs and adding several more like my favourite takeaway places. I'll be interested to see how fast these get fixed.

OPEN LETTER TO TIM COOK

Give us Google Maps App back.
I PAYED for that when I bought my iPhone 3G, my iphone 3GS and my iPhone 4S: Google Maps was advertised by Apple, on Apple ads and Websites, and everywhere, it is part of what I paid for.

I payed for it, I bought it, I own it.

Apple has no right to remove it from my devices with their update if I can't have it back on the Appstore.

Give it back. NOW.

How about...NO

It's very likely that you do not understand. They had years to come up with this turd, another year of polish could not hurt.

.

Another year loitering in XCode would have made no appreciable difference.

In solid Mac tradition...

Maps, it just works....errrr I mean it just barely works (sometimes)

I don't think Apple Maps are all that bad... It's probably that 10% of the users are having 90% of the problems.

The majority of users are probably just be-bopping along and going about their business.

Unfortunately, there are a huge number of folks out there that have a hatred towards Apple and will use every opportunity they get to add fuel to the fire.

I haven't seen anything like this before with any other brand. Sure, I'm not a big fan of Dodge, Ford or Hyundai - but I don't go out of my way to hate on these companies.

I don't know what the deal is with some people... if you don't like Apple - move on. Don't buy the product, use something else.

The same goes for the Apple Maps app. If it doesn't work for you - try something else. Waze is free and offers turn-by-turn as well. Great app for the money!

Yes, Tim had to acknowledge that they are aware of the issues with maps...

I'm also certain that they (Apple Executive Team) will learn from this launch. Just like they learned from the MobileMe / iCloud fiasco.

Overall, even with this stumble I still prefer iOS to the alternative mobile OS's. Sure, iOS is not perfect - however, I often exclaim to my wife: "I just love my iPhone."

How many people have such an emotional attachment to an electronic device? That just goes to show you how well iOS and the iPhone is integrated into my life.

Long live iOS!

Hey guys this is Tim Cook again. I forgot one last thing.
I sold 5 million iPhone 5s in less than a week, bi***s!!!!
Ha ha! Oh lawl!

According to Apple Maps, I live inside a Chevron Gas Station (Chevron doesn't have gas stations in Brazil). It is THAT bad.

In 3D, Apple maps correctly shows what part of my house I'm standing in. On Google, it would sometimes show my location across the street. It may not be perfect everywhere all of the time, but it will only get better.

Not very, 'cos there's a few million other geeks doing likewise. ;)

Just like he didn't release the Cube? Or MobileMe? Or the iP4? Or FCX?

I hate the term "fanboy" but if we're going to use it it seems to me it applies most to Steve fans whose job these days appears to be re-writing history.

It's more likely that YOU do not understand. For example you can test a drug out for years but until it's in the real world you have no idea what side effects will crop up. Coming up with a mapping app is much more complex than a simple drug.

iOS 6 maps - best app I've used in my area

I've used Waze, Google Maps, Motion X, etc ... and iOS 6 has the best map set I've used thus far.

I'm in the states, so I cannot speak about any issues that may be affecting our friends across the pond.

But it's been stellar in my area; great experience, love it. :apple:

Thats because you are deluded and don't live anywhere of significance where street view and transit directions are a must.

Right. Only an idiot would need a map being from, living, and traveling through New York.

John Gruber will spin this as a positive somehow.

I usually like some of his insights, but he's been a huge douche the past week or two.

Where is the apology regarding the paint chipping off the back like it's a cheap, made-in-China toy.

...oh wait...
It's not paint, and it doesn't "chip". Bang it around enough and you will ding through to the bare metal, which is why I wouldn't have tried anodizing aluminum in the first place. Just leave it bare metal like the first iPhone. But this isn't the first anodized aluminum surface they've put out. ipod nanos were packaged like that and they looked pretty good to me. I recall they showed Steve Jobs a black anodized macbook pro once and he rejected it after a few days because it developed a sheen on the palm rests from skin oils.

Anyway back on topic, at least they owned up to the deficiencies on apple maps and are working on it. I mean, whaddawant? Google maps had a multi-year head start on them.

The Maps are fine the only thing not fine are the POI and incorrect data, the best way to improve that is user input.

I agree and these POI are best updated by user feedback. Now how fast they correct them is what I think will be important. It took Google more than a month to correct a zipcode that was off by more than 30 miles in Staten Island. The worst part is that it reappears about once a year. Only reason I am fixated on that zip code is that a client's business is on it and if you search by Zip it never appears.

My Garmin has gone through 2 map updates and a pizzeria that closed 12 years ago and I reported closed over 2 years ago still exists.

I don't know if its refreshing to hear Apple say they Facked up or kind of worrisome in terms of what this means for the future of Apple.

Steve would have released a working Map App that kicks Google's ass.
He would never have released an embarassing piece of code that stinks and makes him look like a fool to the World.

Yeah because he had nothing to do with the Cube, or the fat Nano, or FCX, or MobileMe, or iPhone 4. Good god can you really be that delusional?

lol do you even know anything? Apple is using the SAME companies Google is using for maps data
Do you know anything? I can assure that they definitely aren't.
In Japan, Google is using the best mapping company in Japan (ZENRIN DataCom) for their maps and Apple is definitely not using them.
Next time, try to think before your post.

This! If I knew last year what would happen with IOS 6, I might have bought another phone. Maps are very important for me.

Apples Maps in the long run will be better for us (iOS users).

Was a bold move by Apple and all though they haven't quite pulled it off it will be an epic feature.

Stupid move is more like it!

And, assuming Apple's Maps eventually becomes "epic", it will STILL lack Street View.

With the release of iOS 6, Apple is TAKING AWAY FEATURES.

Happily, I can simply stick with iOS 5. But, for how long before Apple's contract with Google expires completely? Will the original iOS Maps app stop working once the contract expires?

Mark

iOS 6 thinks Manhattan is Brooklyn....

How will the poor hipsters find their way.... oh my!!! ;)

For all of you who say they have NO issues....
How did Apple get this wrong?!?!

NYC is as big a city as you can get...

When you can't get a large city like NYC correct, then an apology should be forth-coming. If NYC is so off, I can imagine how bad other (smaller, rural) cities must be portrayed.

i call BS on this one.
i just run your exact search and i get the correct address.

the program does have major problems, but you are not helping the discussion by posting fake maps
