I clicked on this thread just to see all the Trump "Republicans" (quotes intentional) crying and whining about how Tim Cook should "stay out of politics."

And let me tell you. I was not disappointed! You snowflakes are the best.

A+++ thread. Would read again.

In their marketing too. I can’t recall the last time I saw a white man in a commercial or product shot. It’s his company—he can do whatever. But when you go out of your way to NOT feature a particular sex or skin color you are intentionally hostile to that classification. It reeks of politics and to say otherwise is dishonest.

There are 5 in this commercial:

Here's a screen cap of Apple's official Youtube channel, you'll notice there are a lot of white dudes:

Sentiments like this remind me of one of my favourite quotes:

"When You’re Accustomed to Privilege, Equality Feels Like Oppression"

Apple is a global company. And, hate to break it to you, most people in this world ain't white. So occasionally you're going to see some yellows and browns mixed in bud. Suck it up, you'll be OK.
Carpool Karaoke, Apple’s leadership team and celebrities in Apple Music.

Adorable that you circled those little faces. Basically, white music stars, white celebrities and Apple’s leadership team.

Okay. Sure pal.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to come to grips with it. Apple deliberately keeps white men out of their ads and demos, with an exception here and there for celebrities and Aple Music. That you little leftists and SJW’s would fight such an obvious point is incredible.

If you support it, own it.

Cook: “treating customers like they're jewels”

I nearly fell off my chair laughing when I read that quote from Cook. In my experience Apple treats it’s customers with arrogant disdain and contempt.

Have you ever tried shopping in Currys? Or even better, getting any sort of after sales service from them?

I’ve had a 2011 MBP repaired out of warranty for free due to the logic board failure being a known problem in 2015. I’d gone into the Apple Store with every intention of buying a replacement MBP and only took the broken one with me to compare the machines physically.

Safe to say my wife & mine replacement machine bought a couple of months ago was a mac.

That’s before we get to the long term support of its devices with OS updates that utterly eclipse the competition.

In what manner does Apple treat its customers with arrogant disdain? Personal experience? A general widespread problem?

How many times have Apple denied a problem exists. They only accept problems when faced with legal action or ongoing bad publicity.

Tim Cook is a white man.
James Damore was a Google employee. I don't see the logic of pointing this yet bashing Apple instead of Google.
I think the poster was pointing to the very far left politics of the Valley in general. Apple, Twitter, Facebook, et al may not be strictly partisan, but they are all absolutely political and very far to the left at that.

Anyway, that's fine. They can do what they want with their companies. But to claim they are not political is laughingly disingenuous

Oh personal insults. How unique. Their software is garbage now compared to when Steve was around. I really don’t care what gender the engineers are, but I prefer Apple products without 1000 bugs and software updates every other week that tend to just make it worse. So something isn’t working out right.
Again, way to dismiss the many Apple engineers. iOS 11 is not perfect, and Apple is admitting that they could do better by focusing iOS 12 on performance and fine tuning instead of new features. If you ever listened to how Steve Jobs describes the way Apple do things, you will actually understand why Apple had issues.

But no, let’s just dismiss them.

I’m

I’m talking about advertising, which is the way they signal “diversity.” You showed me one ad with a white dude. Never saw that one.

The point remains Apple goes out of its way to make sure white men don’t show up in many ads or marketing materials.

Showing me one ad with a white guy and telling me about the executive team doesn’t make what I stated any less true.

I know you know this. If you want to argue about whether intentionally excluding white men from their advertising is a good or bad thing, that’s fine. But trying to pretend they don’t intentionally keep white men out of their ad copy is disingenuous.
What’s disingenuous is having a false claim and then sticking to it despite the reality saying otherwise.

...'treating customers like jewels' about made me want to vomit. Profits are up because the product specs are no longer cutting edge, features have been removed or watered down; warranty claims are met with skepticism, and Genius Bar support is on the decline.

Speaking of Genius Bar...anyone else have complaints about the way the stores are run? It's haphazard. There is no central location where you are supposed to go if you need help or want to buy something. It's just employees running around everywhere. I've found getting service in an Apple store is a challenging experience.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the model of a sales counter or register, with an easy to understand (intuitive) way to receive help and make a purchase. But no. Angela Ahrendts had to "disrupt" the way people have been shopping in retail stores for half a century. Way to go, Angela!

In my opinion, she's right there at the top re: Cook's mistakes.

So you say there are no white poeple, white people are shown, then you say that’s the exception. Winning.

What is your definition of eco friendly? It sounds like your saying that anything that negatively affects the environment is not eco friendly. To me, being eco friendly is using an alternative that is LESS negatively impactful on the environment.

By my definition, if computer manufacturer A has a lower carbon footprint, uses more sustainable energy sources, has packaging that is more recyclable, uses less toxic substances in their products, and continually tries to improve their environmental impact than computer manufacturer B, then they are more eco friendly than computer manufacturer B.

It sounds like by your definition, both computer manufacturer A and B are not eco friendly, and the only way to be so is to shut down their companies and stop producing anything.
Agreed, it's better than nothing, but let's not totally forget that recycling is only half the battle.

A handful of easily recognizable white men are shown. The vast, vast, vast majority of Apple marketing leaves them out and I'm saying that is an intentional choice. Do you really dispute that? Really?

Finally, if you have a legitimate argument, sure, make your point. But there's no need for the snide and sneering statements. Keyboard tough guys like you are the reasons these forums degenerate into intellectual mosh pits.

I'd consider this interview more honest if there weren't so many easy questions. I'd like to see a question regarding the undeniable degrade of QC in later years in the entire product line. I'd like to see Tim replying to that question, even if he had to lie for the entire answer.

I personally don't agree with the paper for the most part,

What you are saying is "I don't agree with science and scientific research". Ok buddy, facts don't care about your feelings and political views (90% of it was based on other papers and 10% James's own suggestion).

If I meant to say that I would have — I didn't. His "10%" was the narrative he used to weave those facts together that I disagree with — mostly because these traits are not reliably applicable to specific genders, so pigeon-holing people in rolls is not something I support.

The person who was given evidence is telling other people to make legitimate arguments and then is telling other people to stop "snide" remarks and talks about about how guys "like me" are the reasons the forums degenerate. The intelligent post just keep on coming.

I don't understand why do people go and watch Tim Cook's interview. For that matter, why do such interviews happen? Tim Cook is neither visionary nor he has any contribution to the development of the future of technology. How does he influence the future of technology? For that matter, why don't we see such interviews from Sunder or Satya??

Why are you here?
"I don't understand why do people go and watch Tim Cook's interview. For that matter, why do such interviews happen?"
Because he is the CEO of the largest Tech company in the world. He oversees all of it's operations and he guides the ship and has been for years. No one knows the company better than him right now and they just announced new software. That's why.
"For that matter, why don't we see such interviews from Sunder or Satya"
We do, on other sites. if you notice this is a mac rumours site and they tend to focus on **and I know this is crazy** apple news. Maybe go to android central or other sites for other CEOs.

So I ask again, why are you here?

He’s the CEO of the iPhone maker.

But I agree he’s not nearly as interesting as the two you mentioned. He’s an operations guy. Operations is boring.
