Could Apple repatriate cash from outside the US as a donation to Disaster Relief and bypass any Tax? Or would it be taxed, and then be written off by Apple? :apple:

...I know a lot of people want to send blankets or water....just send us your cash!

I always check charities and ask exactly how much goes to actual aid for the charity....most are really low, like below 10%

There are some good ones out there, though...just make sure you check for yourself and ask questions before sending your help. They need your help, and the right charities are there...so are the scams...

True. The Red Cross is not the best, but they are around 90% getting to the local chapters. Texas specifically requested that the Red Cross be the central donation recipient. Hence, Apple's program was set up with the Red Cross. :apple:

Wow from one crooked company to another. As George Lopez would say "Fantastic Just Fantastic"!
The Governor of Texas has asked people to donate to the Red Cross.

Sandra Bullock donated $1 million. Apple should be able to do better.

Good for apple. Maybe TC can donate a portion of his proceeds from his last stock sale that would be real nice. Maybe he did. Maybe he didn't. Who knows.
Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates are the richest men in the world. How much have they donated?

There is tens of millions of apple
Users and only 3 million was all they could muster? I guess people can barely pay their shiny new toys.

Forum about helping disaster victims creates criticism, hate, and vitriol--must be Macrumors! :)

Tim Cook could give two craps about helping people...he is doing this for the nice tax write off you give Apple by using them for the donation. Tim Cook is not the hero he portrayed himself as, he is out to make a buck.

I wonder this as i've heard nothing from Amazon.

Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates are the richest men in the world. How much have they donated?

Bill Gates? $4.6 billion in 2017. Billions every single year since 2000 when he started his charity with a $20 billion donation. He also gave away $2 billion in the 90's to other charities (keeping in mind when he became the world's richest man, his net worth was $13 billion).

Jeff Bezos? Off the top of my head, he built a homeless shelter into Amazon's new headquarters. He uses Amazon's empty real estate as homeless shelters. He's made donations in the 8-digits each to cancer research, his alma mater, and Seattle's MOHAI museum. Keep in mind, his wealth only really started taking off in 2015, so it's really too early to expect much.

So...how much did you donate to charity in 2017? anything in Bill Gates league? How about the same percentage of your own net income as Bill Gates donated? How many homeless people have you invited into your home to live? I thought so.

I thought this topic was about charity/giving to the people of Texas affected by the hurricane and not about charitable contributions in general? What has Microsoft and amazon contributed?

Amazon: Amazon and Whole Foods will match cash donations made on Amazon.com up to $1 million to the Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Relief.
Microsoft: Microsoft on Monday announced a $100,000 grant to the Red Cross. The tech giant is also contributing another $2.5 million in cash, technology and services to support relief efforts and to aid nonprofit and public-sector organizations.

Some major corporations are lending a hand which is a great thing. Apple is right up there with its relief efforts.

Hyperbole is the nicest possible way to describe this post.

I don’t understand why people think it’s the job of any company big or small to donate money. Why don’t you donate money. Sure at for good reason but no law or rip states they have to. Red Cross is a joke. Want to donate? I’d rather donate food, water, clothes and shelter than money

I’m a poor student that I cannot donate at all, yet I am fully aware of this kind of disasters because my city was devastated by a Category 5-equivalent typhoon last September. What I can do this time for people in the United States is to upload a satellite image of Hurricane Harvey.

This is the title image of Harvey in Wikipedia. I hope my small efforts could make more people worldwide realise how terrifying the hurricane is.

Hmm... I don't recall seeing any reference to Bill or Jeff in the OP so not sure why the need to bring them into the discussion. Besides, how much one donate to charity shouldn't be based on what one's peers do. Right?

This is the most widespread disaster TX has ever faced. Was there in June 2001 for Tropical Storm Allison. But Harvey is much worse. 30 inches vs 50 inches. RESPECT to all the volunteers rescuing people. True heroes!!!!
