Tim Cook Says Apple Watch Set New Sales Record in First Holiday Shopping Week

I just find nothing particularly compelling about the Watch yet...honestly not sure I ever will.

Glad to hear some enjoy theirs however!

Lots of empty space at the Apple Store to try one if anyone's interested.
At my local store, the only vacant spaces are the Mac Pro and Watch areas.

I could be wrong but the last time we heard the Apple Watch wasn't selling we found out that it outpaced the iPhone during its entire first year. Now it's being doubted again and it just had its best week of sales ever. I get the story that IDC is trying to tell but IDC and Gartner contradict each other all the time in their reporting. Another report from an analyst and Apple and we still don't know anything. Honestly who cares at this point. They aren't going to stop selling it anytime soon and people will continue to buy it. Move along people. Move along. Nothing to see here.

Sales figures can't be that impressive otherwise Apple would be releasing the numbers.

Just what I was thinking. If they were that great they would be shouting about it every quarter, instead they bury the watches sales figures as much as possible, because it misses Apples sales targets by a considerable amount and they don't want investors to know the real figures.

That's why apple does not quote the AW figures , they are off the charts....wow!! At least Tim had time away from his political and social issues to mention an Apple product....

Being evasive about the specific sales numbers just continues to make Cook look weak and untrustworthy. Since he took office it's always been "we have great things we can't tell you about". He's yet to deliver a single positive surprise with the product line and increasingly it looks like pursuit of profit is at the expense of Apple reputation and future prosperity.

Yet he's raised spending on R&D. A cost which if he'd kept the same (as a percent) as it had been, no one would have questioned.

Apple is a Watch and Phone company now. A fashion label for the hipster generation.

And don't forget the record setting new MacBooks, industry leading Apple Pay, tablet leading iPads, top selling all in one iMac, and all those other hipster things

Those are just made up guesses by so called analysts who have to come up with something to write about. Before Cook slapped IDC down for its fake news, one of them was estimating sales at 1.1 million while another estimated 2.8 million. Fun to see the trollers squirm.

The thing is, who really believes what this SOB says anymore?

I do.

Unfortunately (or fortunately from my world view) the reality doesn't fit the doom and gloomers who insist Apple is headed in the wrong direction. Literally every new product Apple releases easily has demand exceeding supply. Tim Cook's Apple continues to smash it out of the park every day of the year. I couldn't be more delighted with Apple.

I've had a watch for more than a year and use it every day, mainly for fitness, but it's also very handy for checking incoming text messages, reminders and even taking a quick phone call. All this saves looking for my phone. And the watch OS3 was an absolutely massive improvement. I haven't measured it but it feels like battery life is at least 50% better. They need to do something about the glass. The standard version scratches too easily. I'm on my third iteration, which means with Apple Care I paid $69 twice for a new watch.

But there is no sign of any benefit from that increase in R&D spending. I hardly think the touch bar took $$that much to bring to market. No new product categories or innovative software for years. Of course Cook himself would point to the "future benefits" of R&D, all second-raters claim the best is yet to come. When it doesn't arrive the next step is to blame those around him and let's face it he will have plenty of choice from those on the senior team. (Cr)Apple, the most valuable stagnant company in the world.

Best. Amazing. Incredible. Beautiful. All words that use to mean something at Apple.
Courage, thin, coming soon, trust us, watch strap, product repair program.............the new (Cr)Apple.

First, record sales of the laptops, and now the Watch. Not fair! Yet another record for Apple is just making us trolls look sillier than ever. Not fair!

Yes but they aren't allowed to mislead shareholders. If the Watch had peaked last year, they couldn't lie and manipulate the share price.

I was simply refuting the idea that Tim Cook is simply milking Apple for profits.
