You can disagree and show respect at the same time. Igniting arguments where they have no place is not in any way beneficial to anyone. The mods job is nip nip that sort of thing in the bud. It's obvious and not all opinions deserve an equal platform, and even if they did, front page discussions aren't that platform.

Uh, it's a discussion about what was written in the letter...not sure where else you would like this discussion to take place. You probably haven't seen the original posts that a lot of us were having because so many posts were removed by the mods due to ridiculous and unnecessary censoring.

Also, I have shown the utmost respect.

"Big Plans" = 5 inch iPhone?

"Big Plans" = iPhone Phablet

Did the chinese workers at Foxconn received this email too? (because they are the only ones making our "magical experience" possible). I don't think so, they are too busy working their a**es 12 hours a day. Apple won't make them waste time reading corporate emails.

Your post is based on irrational sentiment. Foxconn workers are NOT Apple employees. Tim Cook has no business and no obligation addressing them (with a memo) as if the were directly working for Apple.

Judging from the remnants I was assuming it was going OT about the LGBT rights issue. Which although mentioned in the letter is going to get stamped out for obvious and totally good reason because it's a powder keg here and really shouldn't be. That'd be excellent moderating.

If it was something else entirely I take that back. :D

It seems like a pretty standard letter anyway. When listing all the things that have happened in the year it makes it easier to see that, yeah.. Okay.. Apple have released quite a lot of new, nice stuff in 2013. It's nice to see the doom and gloom types repeatedly proven wrong.

That Mac Pro though.

I hope so. 2013 was still the same old same old, just faster. Tim Cook as yet to release a new product on his own. It'll still be a while since the much rumored "tv" and "watch" developed under Jobs' tenure.

The tweaked and slightly redesigned 13" rMBP was my "dream notebook" that I had been waiting for. The first iteration wasn't powerful enough thanks to HD 4000, but Apple nailed it with the Haswell version.

I was also pleased with the iPhone 5s. Again they just tweaked and improved something that was already perfect.

I haven't bought one yet, but the iPad Air is yet again a tweaked and improved version of the best tablet on the market.

For me, Apple delivered. I am not sure what some of you were expecting.

While Apple may have tweaked some products to improve them I didn't see any innovation. You like the products but they were good to begin with...just got a little better and complied with people's desires/wants.

What did you want exactly? Apple has an established line of products that they improved during 2013. A company can't innovate every year, not in this industry.

Apple needs to step it up and start innovating with software in 2014 though as they've been coasting for a few years. OS X & iOS is the weak point of every Mac & 'i' device in existence. The amazing hardware really deserves to have an equally good operating system running on it.

"big plans"

I hope so.... How about that Apple Television thats been over-due for some time, or the iWatch.

Do either of those excite you?

I have a smart TV that ISN'T tied to iTunes so I can consume my media however I wish.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Apple TV will probably be the best TV on the market when it comes to software etc, but Apple will want you to pay for everything you want to watch & download. I can do that today for free.

The iWatch just sounds a horrible idea.

I don't want anything...I simply dispute the statement that 2013 was an "innovative year for Apple". All they did was tweak preexisting products. I'd love for them to actually innovate... Their products are good but they are riding on their past accomplishments and not their current ones.

What is your definition or interpretation of innovation?

And what product or extra feature are you expecting?

Not really. cos i won't be fording out some ridiculous price to get them..

But its just be rumored to too long..... Apple's struggling with content creators, as the "reason" not to bring it to the table, and i dunno what their are doing with the iWatch, but maybe there shouldn't have been hints it would be out, when they decided to hold it back longer.

I suppose you don't like the Apple TV either then ? Anything iTunes related is always a 'one-sided'''

But that's Apple... Not thinking whats best for the customer, only whats better for them.. And how they reckon in their best interest it would satisfy themselves.

I'd use Plex, but it requires a you to vere off into the jail-break community... something I'd rather not do...

I just wish Apple didn't take that wrong turn at Alberkerky.

Very true. I wonder if something will become of all this hype.

What hype? Outside of product keynotes Apple is virtually silent. Hype is something like Amazon drones, not anything Apple is working on.

I don't want anything specifically as I'm happy with what I have. I just don't think Apple innovated in 2013...they made great products but nothing innovative.

I agree, I'm satisfied with my current model MBA, MBP/r, iPad 4 & iPad mini. These are excellent.

My iPhone 5S is a decent extra phone in case something happens to my primary smartphone which is far better than the tiny S5.

Since Apple seems to be perfectly happy with minor rather gimmicky updates/upgrades/changes just to have something to rave about, I'm not interested.

Besides there's no incentive for them to do anything but profit taking since their marketing machine effectively keeps anything with an Apple logo selling.

I admire the way they've got everyone captured. The press fawns over them, their cult like following worships their every word, and the money flows in at warp speed.

If that's not success, nothing is :)

He releases another version of that letter to his slave labor in third world countries, one in which he doesn't use the word "team", doesn't intentionally leak it to the press, but does discuss at length his "big plans" in the area of suicide netting installation.

Bit too pessimistic of a viewpoint for me personally, but you're, of course, entitled to your own opinion.

I think Tim knows he has a couple of winners

"Big" will mean a new larger Iphone that will sell like hotcakes and garner BIG profits and a new Ipad Pro with a BIGGER, higher resolution screen.

Excuse me, but if I go to a shop, knowing fully well what I am going to get, and all an employee does is picking up the £2,000 merchandise and taking my card to pay for it, do you think that employee should be paid more than another employee picking up some £10 merchandise and taking my card to pay for it? Have they contributed anything to the sale?

----------

And what did you contribute yourself to those £18,000 of sales? Here's what Michael Winner once said to a waiter who complained about a tip: "Do you really think I should pay you £120 to open a £1,200 bottle of wine? "

Do you think you deserve more money than the guy working at PCWorld, who sells cheap computers? Do you think you should be paid more money because I decide to buy a £500 phone and not a £50 phone? Really, what do you contribute that a million people working at other stores couldn't contribute just as easily if they took your job?

Yes and when Mr winner comes back they will spit in his food i've worked in that industry before. As for when you walk in to that Apple store and that employee working for mimimun wage, don't complain when the country is skint. That same employee, with a child to feed will claim, housing benefit, council tax reduction, working tax benefit and child tax credit all because he's on minimum wage, and he's entitled to it.working for a multi billion pound company thats what my son has to do to live working for them. all coming form your pocket. Thank you very much.
