Local media reports claim that Cook also has plans to have dinner with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan at his seaside home in Bandra, a suburb of Mumbai.

But the dudes Fadnavis and Modi seem to be a decent knowledgeable persons who can get things done.

Reduced sales growth of Apple products in America, Europe and China. Rather than trying to solve the issue by coming out with more refined and properly tested Operating System software and new innovative hardware, they just move along by trying to push their products and services onto the Indian market...

At least most people in India are used to service outages. So no one will go crazy when things don't work from time to time like us... gotta love Tim!

India, like China, is a notoriously protectionist market. Thinking that product refinement is the primary key would be an obvious strategic mistake.

India is an untapped market without all the restrictions of China. Every tech giant is targeting India right now.

Tim is really trying to pucker up to China lately and I guess since he's in the neighborhood, India gets some brown-nosing too. It's not always clear what his motives are, but we've seen this kind of behavior many times in the past few years and there isn't much to show for. I'm not saying Tim isn't a good CEO, he just seems to have lost touch with what made Apple great, and is leading Apple down a bumpy road. Apple is a little messy lately, and kind of stale and boring. The magic is beginning to fizzle.

I'm shocked. No, hold on a second, totally shocked!

Imagine that, a global company that currently has just a 2% market share in the second most populous country in the world (representing more than a sixth of the total world's population), trying to "push its products and services" into that country and increase sales. There they go again... pushing products and services. Scandalous...

What the hell is Tim Cook and Apple doing, anyway?

After arriving in India from Beijing on late Tuesday night, Apple CEO Tim Cook started his five-day trip in the country with a pre-dawn visit to the famous Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai on Wednesday, according to The Indian Express. Cook was accompanied by newly promoted Apple India head Sanjay Kaul.

Cook proceeded to meet Anant Ambani, the son of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, before holding business meetings with Vodafone India CEO Sunil Sood, Tata Group Chairman Cyrus Mistry, and TCS CEO Natarajan Chandrasekaran, among others, at the luxurious Taj Mahal Hotel where he is staying in Mumbai.

Local media reports claim that Cook also has plans to have dinner with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan at his seaside home in Bandra, a suburb of Mumbai, and meet Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis.

Indian website Mid-Day reported that Cook will travel to Hyderabad, India on Thursday, where he is expected to formally announce a $25 million technology development center that will focus on Apple Maps development and house over 150 employees. The CEO is also expected to make stops in Bangalore and Delhi later this week.
Cook is reportedly scheduled to meet India Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday before wrapping up his visit. The conversation may center upon the Indian government's recent decisions to approve single-branded Apple Stores, which could open within 18 months, but deny the sale of refurbished iPhones in the country.

Apple's market share in price-sensitive India remains less than 2 percent, but Cook believes the country provides a "really great opportunity" for growth after sales in the U.S. and China have slowed. Apple's revenue grew 56 percent in India last quarter, passing the $1 billion mark for the first time.

Earlier, Apple announced plans to establish a new iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in Bangalore.

Regardless of what negative anyone says, Tim Cook should stay. He makes good effort to do good for humanity and the image of the company, Apple. What Apple needs is someone in charged and focused on Apple products, in addition to Tim. There is no reason why both can't coexist.

It's all nice that he goes out there and makes it look like he actually cares about the traditions and culture but we all know it's mostly ( 90% ) about $$$$ And also it seems like he cares only about China and India thinking that the rest of the globe is already in Apple Hypnosis or something so it's all fine and that makes me question whether he's not going to miss out on other countries like the UK or Russia, the whole US and a lot, lot more. Because i do think those markets are also very key to Apple so why not bring any '' special features '' there as well?

Samsung and others are lobbying hard to keep iPhones from competing with their lower end smartphones.

Best you tell the full story of what Apple really wanted to do in India, from the Verge

"Apple won't be allowed to import or sell refurbished iPhones in India, a telecommunication ministry official told Bloomberg. The company had requested approval to sell the older phones at a cheaper price earlier this year. India's environment ministry had denied Apple's same request in 2015 over fears that the used phones, which are close to end-of-life, would contribute to India's e-waste problems, according to the Times of India."

I'll bet Apple's warehouse is pretty full with all those traded in iPhones that they thought they could push off on India ... fail.

More from the Verge

"The decision likely sets Apple's Indian ambitions back a ways, as the company seeks to expand the iPhone's reach in the country. Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an interview with Jim Kramer last night that his company's future growth strategy relies on Indian consumers."

"People [in India] really want smartphones," he said. With LTE rolling out in the country this year, Cook said there will be "huge market potential." The refurbished phone plan would have brought iPhone prices down to a more accessible level."

No, that's because people in the majority of those countries are getting poorer, and India is unexplored territory for Apple.

What the hell is Jeff Williams doing with Cook in this trip? Isn't he supposed to be back keeping watch over headquarters like a COO as he was promoted to be?

Oh wait..he's following Cook because...he's Cook's boy. Got it.

Because Apple is going to manufacture in India?

If he's Cook's boy, well, love doesn't choose sex.

It is interesting watching the decline of Apple. These are the kinds of tell-tale signs that there really is no innovation left at Cupertino. All that is left is "untapped markets". Read the messaging from Cook over the past few years. He has virtually admitted that no innovation is forthcoming, and Apple's hopes really rest on developing markets. Will be fascinating to see how his tenure works itself out. I have a feeling that he will eventually become more despised to Apple fans than Sculley was.

Everyone crowing about the revenue growth under Cook should pay attention to this tidbit from Sculley:

"Sales at Apple increased from $800 million to $8 billion under Sculley's management, although many attribute his success to the fact that Sculley joined the company just when Steve Jobs' visions and Steve Wozniak's creations had become highly lucrative."

I'd be pretty nervous if I were an Apple Software Engineer.
Being a consumer, I would not worry about software quality decline, couldn't get much worse from no on. And I think the engineers will be fine, because:
"We've cheapened on everything else - let's see if I can get the same number of engineers at a quarter of the price!"
For a quarter of the price, you can get a lot more Indian software engineers. Unfortunately not as many as you would need.

If we played the drinking game for when Cook said "Innovative/innovate/innovation" alone, anyone participating would either be in rehab or dead due to alcohol poisoning.
Hey, but I LOVE drinking games! just wondering how much do we have to drink for a phrase such as "can't innovate anymore, my ass!" though?

Imagine that, a global company that currently has just a 2% market share in the second most populous country in the world (representing more than a sixth of the total world's population), trying to "push its products and services" into that country and increase sales. There they go again... pushing products and services. Scandalous...
From a business decisions standpoint, the expanse probably makes PERFECT sense! Also I wish them good luck and lots of success in doing so! But at the same time, Apple should not neglect their software quality standards and ignore hardware innovations . Which they are at the moment, I think.

Didn't realize MacRumors readers were armchair CEOs AND fashionistas

Hey, fashion shows and fashion magazines are Apple's new game ... best buy an Apple Watch and/or a pink iPad with specially curated cases and covers and watch bands and jump on the wagon.

I don't think you understand. I don't care if he's gay and that's his business. BUT, if Williams and Cook are what I think they are, it's unethical for Cook to promote "his boy" as COO.

It would be like having a CEO promote his/her lover to a position as second in command which is not right. It's almost nepotistic.

Remember, they BOTH attended Duke Uni, worked at IBM and joined Apple in 1998.

So in that sense, if Williams is a COO, he should be staying at headquarters and not following him around.
