Tim,
stop toiling your own self righteousness like your some sort of FRAK'n god here.
If you're a HUMAN BEING first and foremost, then an American (God, Country, Family) and you CARE about the safety of family and kids and peoples personal data is important to you and Apple.
Do NOT create a back door.
Take the phones in trust from the FBI ... then work on a solution that is IN-HOUSE under LEGAL signed Executive VP survision with FBI outside that LOCKED down ROOM and the BEST ENGINEERS who stand to forefit their entire pay range, civil lawsuits, shares and stock should they LEAVE apple and work directly or indirectly with governments across the globe of ANY kind ...
GET THAT DATA! Submit it to the FBI ... the code remains intact and protected! Done and DONE! You've protected the public privacy of your "clients" which is MUCH different than your users, the public interest in safety against terrorism and the the FBI's end goal which is to GET at data that could lead to another attack or breach of national security!
THAT"S IT!!
Imagine how Tim Cook's story would change if it was HIS family or his lover's family that gets killed, maimed or violated in the next terrorist attack!! Yeah you'd see his stance change in a heartbeat!
FBI is demanding Apple leak a back door, I say Apple provides only the critical relevant (in THEIR EYES not the FBI's - which means everything lol) information to the FBI. Simple and everybody sleeps well at night.
We obviously love your fantasy. No actually, we don't. What you are posting here is absolutely disgusting.Imagine how Tim Cook's story would change if it was HIS family or his lover's family that gets killed, maimed or violated in the next terrorist attack!! Yeah you'd see his stance change in a heartbeat!
You will not like this, but there is also a chance that your next president might be prone to cause injuries to anyone that he perceives as an enemy. So if you ever visited the "trump donald" website and the next government finds out, you might end up on a stretcher.Lets not forget how much data is on our phones. Once unlocked you can get to my: phone calls, text messages, email, banking information, location history, social media, notes/journal, cloud storage, and photos/videos (w/ geolocation). Not to mention whatever access I have to my spouse/friends (text conversations, facebook profile access, etc). And now some cars/homes have electronic locks available through your phone too...
Previously this would have taken a number of warrants to show need/cause from each provider but its all in 1 neat tidy package on my phone. It's no wonder Law Enforcement wants easy access to this stuff, it would make their jobs much easier.

So the government says this is only for one phone and would never leave Apple HQ. But if Apple created a tool that was used by the government wouldn't 3rd parties need to validate or want access to that tool? In a court case wouldn't the defense ask for the code behind this tool or could they argue the evidence is invalid/made up by the government? Also what happens if congress gets involved and passes a law that outlaws encryption? This is about so much more than this one phone.
Give 'em Hell, Tim.
PR Stunt and Mind Games. None of this pony show is particularly surprising.
For a company that now pounces on the "we care about you" bandwagon, it still uses every trick in the book to prefer using countries and companies with gross human rights violations on issues more severe than privacy and, despite having the money to make actual change that would awe and impress the biggest of cynics, the company still makes excuses and blame games.

*clap* *clap* *clap*
I'm sure he truly cares about you as much as he does every other walking wallet and/or cheap laborer to be exploited (meaning "everyone else"). He only does the rights shtick whenever it suits him. Like I said, it's a PR and marketing stunt. Nothing substantial but people will swallow it blindly.
I disagree. This is about setting a precedent, not this individual phone. For example, Snowden: FBI could hack San Bernardino iPhone without Apple’s involvement. If the NSA or FBI still had the capability, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
Yep.And so far as it has been communicated, the FBI has not answered if the have asked the NSA to break into the device. This needs answering as the task given to Apple by the courts is required to be a "after all attempts". Haven't seen that in any of the warrant / writ court documentation either.

I'd prefer the laws of the country be based on a rational discussion of our rights, not emotionally-charged self interest.Imagine how Tim Cook's story would change if it was HIS family or his lover's family that gets killed, maimed or violated in the next terrorist attack!! So that would imply that you believe that it's better to ignore the "gross human rights violations" than doing something about it like Apple is.PR Stunt and Mind Games. None of this pony show is particularly surprising.

If it's not a strategic case of marketing apple as being so secure with data, why go on TV? Why not lay low and let it go through the courts.
So I wonder how many meetings Cook had with Apple's legal team to prep for this interview...
Hmm...looks like one county in Arizona says they'll no longer purchase iPhones.

Donald Duck has my deepest respect, .

.
Finding nothing new would not be a surprise. These folks were well prepared and destroyed what they needed to by all appearances.
Exactly.
The San Bernardino shooters were smart enough to destroy their personal phones and their hard drives. So I seriously doubt they left any evidence on this work phone.
The FBI already has mountains of technological data at their disposal... iCloud data, carrier call data, etc. Plus additional information collected through non-technological methods.
In my opinion... the FBI isn't really concerned with this iPhone anyway.
They simply want to set a precedent so that they can get Apple to assist in unlocking future iPhones.
Here's the deal... Apple makes smartphones that are very protected. The reason is for enhanced privacy and security of users' data. Even the FBI can't get into Apple's smartphones!
And the FBI hates that![]()
I'm starting to think they changed the passcode knowing well that it would require Apple to write this new iOS version and cry to the people and courts to force Apple to do it.
[doublepost=1456413906][/doublepost]...
- The thing I find MOST appalling in this whole thing is the Courts/FBI is REQUIRING APPLE to make special software. I am sorry but a government can't force someone to make something. How can apple replace the OS that is on the phone anyways? It requires a password to do that and they don't have it. So they will have to do a lot of engineering. I hope they make it even harder to back door down the road.
- The terrorist guy was careful enough to destroy tons of stuff already. I am certain he already destroyed everything on his phone too.
- I think the government is using this terrorist act to get the ability to break into other phones they want to get into. They have more "sympathy" votes right now using this case to make precedence.
- Maybe next time, they shouldn't just kill these bad guys first. And then they could have asked kindly for their password before the waterboarding begins.
- There should also be a checksum of your password against the OS. If the OS is altered, the password will not work, even a good one.
Reminds me of Microsoft telling their employees to through iPods into a bin and use Zunes.

Wow, so they won't purchase iPhones because they're too secure? Good look getting your crappy Android phones hacked, idiots.
