I'm not really a Rabid Tim-hater (there are already dozens of haters in MR that are exactly that), but I never understood the reason for an "honorary degree".

If you didn't graduate from the college, then you simply didn't earn the degree.

Honorary degrees are a joke. They serve no purpose other than to teach everyone else that when you're rich and powerful, you can "earn" a degree without doing any of the work. Since this degree serves no real purpose, it's nothing more than a status symbol. It's idiotic and counterintuitive to everything higher education is supposed to be about.

America is so backwards. I would recommend everyone watches "Where to Invade Next" to see how far behind we are in everything from education, to social reforms, to policing to productivity and family life.

It's truly sad but a lot of Americans are stuck and locked into that culture of always wanting more "Status symbols". From the very rich to the poorest groups, you've got this ingrained feeling that you have to obtain more. You have to compete. You are consistently pushed into a race to see who has the best, the most, etc.

Thousands of dollars in debt, a degree that feels like it is just a paper in a frame, a car that should make you happy but instead you start to notice how your neighbor has a better one, a house that you are hardly ever in because you're working too much to try to keep up with the flow. You have so much but yet so little. At the end is death.

I admit to currently lurking around the city centre, waiting for any news of a store visit....
I almost walked down to Buchanan street at lunchtime but I thought he wouldn't show at that time as the store often gets busy around then. I was right, he waited until just after lunch before showing up.

You can't expect him to give up his lunchtime, surely! :D
