Impressive this current Apple Empire of buildings and thousands of employees. I remember the day that Apple was on the edge of going bankrupt....

Thanks Bill Gates for saving Apple at the time. :apple:

Has he got a prototype iPhone in his pocket or a Blackberry haha, it's appears to have a curved top?
Nah, it's just Tim's PSP, no big deal. :D

What else did you expect him to say? "Apple is releasing boring new products that are going to be hilariously overpriced yet really beautiful looking"
Of course he's going to say exciting new products, he said that every year since taking CEO position and my guess is that he's going to say the same next year;)

The Mac Pro is already made in Austin! Mine was shipped from there instead of from China! :apple:

Made in the USA baby!

:apple:

It's assembled in Austin, I think? I think the case and chassis may be made in Austin, otherwise I would guess it's a case of assembling all the bits they buy in.

Anyway, would be nice if Apple did this to more of it's computers, it hasn't got the capacity to make it's own iToys but it would be nice if they built their own computers in America.

Will be interesting to see what Apple launch this year, it better hurry up too considering half of it's gone already (where did it go?).

That can be a bit misleading because there are so many taxes in NY! Beyond that the political environment in NY sucks as it has become a huge welfare state and possibly the least free state in the union. Almost anything that might be construed as fun is illegal in NY.

And the high cost of living... And the fact that after the tax free holiday is over you're paying some of the highest taxes in the country.

Then again on both counts, they're headquartered in the valley...

If Apple opened a campus here, I'd apply in a heartbeat. Sigh, I'm on the wrong coast.

What does Apple do in Austin that it doesn't do in Cupertino?

HR, Retail Support, Finance... Pretty much it's an extended Apple Campus. AppleCare is also based out of Austin.

This. Customer support has been there for a couple of decades, and most of the rest is sales, financial and HR.

Also, apparently a fair amount of hardware engineering, no doubt for the same reason that Samsung and others are in Austin: because of all the University of Texas graduates.

1. Manufacture Mac Pros.
2. Provide corporate support to Latin America, New Zealand, and Australia.

Mac Pros are manufactured by Flextronics in Austin, not by Apple.

The Americas Operation Center in Austin supports North and South America.

ANZ would be supported by the Pacific Center, which I think is in Singapore.

Since most of Apple's hardware is up for some kind of refresh I see it more like "we're so far behind that we can't help being excited" :D

Texas Governor Perry has given major tax breaks to corporations, effectively luring some tech companies in Silicon Valley like Apple to either relocate or expand facilities there. On the non-tech side, Toyota is building a new headquarters in Austin.

For manufacturing it make sense to do it in the cheaper cost of living states IMO. A manufacturing plan would be super expensive in the NE and Cali given the cost of real estate. For designing and initial creation of such hardware platforms you go to the places with the most educational talent for hardware and software design. For manufacturing you go where the people are best suited for that task. This is why you have a ton of Software companies in NYC now like Google, FB, Yahoo, etc.... Texas and the south in general simply doesn't have enough talent located there to handle the load.

Tim has been saying new products are coming for quite awhile. I hope him and Apple deliver because I think with all the build up folks expecting big things.

Hypothetically, lets say even if there were no iWatch or bigger iPhone or bigger iPads.

It is like dangling keys in front of toddlers to grab their attention.

Board and stockholders will expect him to say something magical is coming up.

If you don't believe this, see next year around this time when they would have finally perfected iWatch.
As a slap on the early adopters, Cook will say 'iWatch 2 blows the original iWatch out of water'.
