What does Apple do in Austin that it doesn't do in Cupertino?

For a company the size of Apple, you can't run everything from a site as small as the current Cupertino campus. Plus there's DR scenarios too, if anything happened in Cupertino/California then they need another location to fall back on.

For manufacturing it make sense to do it in the cheaper cost of living states IMO. A manufacturing plan would be super expensive in the NE and Cali given the cost of real estate. For designing and initial creation of such hardware platforms you go to the places with the most educational talent for hardware and software design. For manufacturing you go where the people are best suited for that task. This is why you have a ton of Software companies in NYC now like Google, FB, Yahoo, etc.... Texas and the south in general simply doesn't have enough talent located there to handle the load.

Aside from it making sense, the workers probably live better there off manufacturing jobs than they would in California. Wages would most likely to be higher in California, but the scaling isn't always proportionate to cost of living.

has anyone noticed Tims wrist?

Do I Notice an iWatch on Tims wrist? Because that doesn't look like a Nike band to me.

Apple CEO Tim Cook visited Apple's brand new campus in Austin, Texas today at its opening celebration, according to various Apple employees. Cook recapped the announcements Apple made at WWDC earlier this week and teased that "exciting" new products are on the way, reports 9to5Mac.

Apple SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue was also in attendance, commenting about Beats Music and Beats Electronics. Cook also reportedly talked about new hires, mentioning how new retail head Angela Ahrendts was the best person for the job.

Many Apple employees took to Twitter and Instagram to share Cook's visit to the campus, which is similar in style to the current Cupertino headquarters and complete with advanced facilities for Apple support, engineering and operations. Only part of the first phase of construction has been completed, with the complete first phase expected to finish by the end of 2015 and the entire project to be completed by 2021.

I'm almost positive that it is a FitBit. Seems fitting if he is a health nut.

Too curved for a fitbit. It's more likely a nike fuel band 2.

For those who think it could be an iWatch... There is no way he would make the mistake of wearing an iWatch during a public appearance. Even if he forgot about it, his handlers wouldn't.

Say A Few Words For Our D-Day Veterans Today ....

Let's say it closes at $650 tomorrow, Friday.
That'll put it at a spilt adjusted price of $92.86 per share.
Seeing as there's NO after hours trading tomorrow, that's where it would open on Monday morning.
It's very possible to be "off to the races"

My thinking exactly.
At the Opening Bell on Monday morn, there'll be 7x more Apple shares available
than there are now "undervalued" by $550.
The market will go bugspit ....
If there was ever an opportunity for a good ol' pump & dump, this is it.
You're pretty much guaranteed to make at least 5 times your money.

He's 6 foot 3

Yep.

And that answer came to me in about, quite literally, half a second.
Siri is effing amazing ....

I tend to agree but it's not like an apple employee ever left a prototype iPhone in a bar before or anything like that...Just saying.. ;)

Also look at the new story just went up here with the concepts done by Todd Hamilton....looks very similar....

That's not how it works. The value of the shares will be dropped as well, maybe not as much as 1/7th but it will not be undervalued by $550.

Yeah, but I think that the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company is a little bit more savvy than your Radio Frequency Engineer. Look at the one on the far left, minus the display its pretty much dead on.

Yes you would think so but stranger things have happened. Yeah I agree its almost dead on for the Nike+ one.....

"Exciting products coming".

Hasn't he said this for more than a year now ?

Well he did say Exciting New Products for 2014.
Nothing yet, but we are only half way so plenty of time yet.

And no Tim, I don't class an iPad air with touch ID, a little faster chip and a up specced camera, or a 4.7" (other than that the same) iPhone as "Exciting New Products"

While you are partially correct in saying that there will be 7x more shares, those shares will be worth 1/7th the value, so the relation is proportional. AAPL's Market Cap will be exactly the same. What you described is like saying that Apple will be worth $3.9 trillion on Monday morning. If that happens I retire on Monday.

That being said, it does do something with the psyche of the investors and analysts. The cheaper price seems to move shares more easily, which is always good. It seems like a better deal all of the sudden, or maybe the shares are more available to the smaller investors.

Tim Cook says "Says 'Exciting' Products Coming", that phrase can now refer to any date or any year. It lost significance.

This. Customer support has been there for a couple of decades, and most of the rest is sales, financial and HR.

Also, apparently a fair amount of hardware engineering, no doubt for the same reason that Samsung and others are in Austin: because of all the University of Texas graduates.

Mac Pros are manufactured by Flextronics in Austin, not by Apple.

The Americas Operation Center in Austin supports North and South America.

ANZ would be supported by the Pacific Center, which I think is in Singapore.

ANZ support has moved to Austin. They have been posting for it since March and April. You have to be available overnight to accomendate the time difference. The question that I was answering was "What does Apple do in Austin that they do not do in Cupertino?"

What could be more awesome than an iWatch that can hold all your recipes! It's like...a sentient Swatch!

Unless...

New icons in iOS 8!!!!!!!!!

Wait...

Snappier Safari launching??? -- OM!G!G!!#!

Yes, but that's not all. One moooooore thing, as Slender Man used to say at his events.

A Dr. Dre-branded set of sweatshop-quality headphones! yes! Yes! YES! To play mp3-quality files on! OOOOOOMGfffffff

Monday morning's open with Apple shares under $100 for the first time since they opened on March 18, 2009 at $99.91, is certainly going to a boon to everybody who's been wanting to hop aboard the Apple bus, but just couldn't afford the ticket price. :apple:

"Exciting products coming".

Hasn't he said this for more than a year now ?

Yes, that's his standard response.

Steve Jobs, Chief Tyrant "Magical & Revolutionary"

Tim Cook, CEO "Exciting products coming"

Different ways of saying the same old thing.
